PROVENCE
All the wines from Château Vignelaure were made for us by David O’Brien, the super talented, self-taught winemaker who left his first
calling as one of Europe’s most successful racehorse trainers to become a winemaker, in the process returning Vignelaure to its former
position as one of the two leading wines of Provence. Sadly, David sold the property to live in Australia, the home of his wife Catherine.
These wines are the last that David made for us.
4538 La Grande Pièce de Vignelaure 2006 8 8 Fine harmonious “Bordeaux blend.”
4539 Esprit de Nijinsky Rosé 2007 9 9 A very fine pink wine, but it should not be held any longer.
4540 La Source de Vignelaure Rosé 2007 10 10 Fresh and lively. Modest nose, but appetizing fruit acidity. Drink now.
4541 La Source de Vignelaure Rouge 2006 9 9 Never intended as a long keeper, it has good acidity, but very
low tannin. Open and enjoy.
4542 Esprit de Nijinsky Rouge 2006 8 8 A big, jam flavoured palate shows that the tannins have
receded and it is now ready.
4543 Château Vignelaure, 2004 8 8 Has developed quickly. In fine condition and it will hold well,
AOC Côteaux d’Aix en Provence but it is now showing its weight and structure.
4544 Bourgogne Aligoté, AOC 2007 10 10 Should have all gone by now. The palate is now dull and rather
coarse.
4545 Bourgogne 2007 8 8 The best wine to be found of this appellation. Coming
Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune Blanc, AOC around nicely to show the fragrance and softness of
the fruit.
4546 Saint-Aubin, 1er Cru, AOC, 2007 8 8 This is the perfect moment to open and enjoy this delicious
“Vigne Moingeon” white.
4547 Bourgogne 2007 7 7 Far better than its appellation, Billard really concentrates
Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune Rouge, AOC on making this lesser appellation fine.
4548 Auxey-Duresses, AOC, “Les Jonchères” 2007 7 7 Medium weight. Nice, warm, ripe fruit with a good structure
that provides length in the mouth. Good.
4549 Beaune, AOC, “Les Bons Feuvres” 2007 7 7 Outside of the Côte d’Or, the Pinot Noir is known to be a very
difficult grape to work with. Here, it is done with ease. This is
a deliciously complete example that will please for three or
four more years.
4550 Côte de Beaune Villages, AOC, 2007 8 8 Youthful, showing attractive aromas of forest leaves and
Domaine Billard, Founders’ Choice bright red berry fruit. Supple and easy in the mouth.
