3924 Morellino di Scansano 2006 9 9 Excellent. A wine that Tuscans really appreciate.
“La Preselle”, DOC It is a fine example from an increasingly popular denomination.
3925 Chianti Classico “Fagnano”, DOCG, 2005 9 9 Fine. Harmonious. Well integrated. Still lots of fine fruit.
Gallo Nero
3926 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, 2004 8 8 Very tannic. Damp soil, mushrooms, leafy and grip of
DOCG, Cerraia black cherry. Very full flavours.
3927 Brunello di Montalcino, 2002 9 9 So much nicer now than a couple of years back. It is robustly
DOCG, Castello Tricerchi and proudly Italian, showing all of the mature, mellow notes of
the Sangiovese grape.
3932 Barbera d’Alba, DOC, Terrenostre 2005 9 9 Stylish wine. Good leathery notes. Some smoke. Good depth
of flavour.
3935 Barbaresco, DOCG, Terrenostre 2003 9 9 Still perfect. Good wine of a good vintage.
3936 Barolo, DOCG, Cantina Bel Colle 2003 9 9 Has matured well. It is not very big and might be a touch
clumsy, but enjoyable.
3938 Salice Salentino 2005 9 9 This is still a monster of a wine. Big fruit. Not much by way of
acidity. Tannin on the decline, but still a good sturdy drink.
3940 Pinot Noir, DOC, Alto Walch, 2004 10 10 Nice smoky notes. Good balance. Drink this year.
Founders’ Choice
3049 Chardonnay, Höpler 2006 9 9 Very stylish example of the grape. It has lovely,
if rather discrete, characters. Nice nose, not at all
overpowering. Peachy finish.
3950 Riesling, Höpler 2006 9 9 Never rush with Hopler’s wines. They stand the time
test and this, like others, remains fine.
3951 Pinot Noir, Höpler 2003 9 10 This has never appeared to have caught up with itself and,
consequently, it still tastes in several parts. Nice, but a little
manqué.
3952 Trockenbeerenauslese, Höpler 2002 10 10 Quite ready, but that does not indicate any need to drink, as
it will live nobly onwards into great age. Put it away for your
dotage.
3953 Eiswein, Höpler 2004 9 9 A great wine. Super honeyed sweetness. This is a much
sought after classic within Austria.
3954 Pinot Noir, Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt 2005 9 9 Bold flavours. Acidity has declined. Well developed.
3955 Ruppertsberger Nussbien Kabinett 2006 8 9 No change in the last year. It is an elegant and really beautiful
wine. Softer now. Easy to enjoy. No problems here.
3956 Ruppertsberger Hofstuck 2006 8 9 Lovely tropical noted. Spicy aromas. Well packed with stone
Gewürztraminer Kabinett fruit flavours. Very good wine.
