Lot # Wine Year M D Comment
3883 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 9 9
Barrel Reserve, Cornellana Estate
3884 Carmenère, Barrel Reserve, 2005 8 9
Cornellana Estate
3885 Shiraz, Barrel Reserve, 2005 9 9
Cornellana Estate
3889 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 9 10 Perfectly acceptable. No problems with maturity, but it won’t
Casa Nueva grow any more in the bottle.
3890 Carmenère, Casa Nueva 2006 9 9 Big mouth of red fruit. Still boldly flavoured. In fact, it is only
now showing soft ripeness emerging out of the tannins.
3892 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva, 2005 9 10 Classic example of a wine made from optimally ripe fruit. It is
Casa Nueva both luscious and soft, yet leaves plenty of fruit on the palate.
3893 Syrah Reserva, Casa Nueva 2005 9 9 Vanilla and chocolate mingle with blackberry fruit and sweet
Bing cherries.
3894 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Reserva, 2005 9 10 Lovely, soft red fruit. Smokey. Good grip.
Casa Nueva
3895 Syrah/Carmenère Reserva, 2005 10 10 It is very hard to find fault with Echeverria’s wines.
Casa Nueva This is no exception. It is perfectly ready.
3898 Merlot, Expresion Reserve 2005 10 10 Has come on quickly since a year ago,
but it is still drinking well.
3899 Chardonnay, Esencia Grand Reserve 2003 9 10 Beautiful, but only if it has been stored in a cool environment.
Very big flavour. Developed nose. Long in the mouth.
3900 Grand Reserve Assemblage, 2000 10 10 Supple. Still fruity. Very soft mouth-feel. Notes of cigar
Maipo Valley box and coffee.
3901 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Equis, 2004 10 10 Villard’s best wine, it is a great example of middle to top
Gran Vino Tinto quality from Chile. Its balance shows the clever blending
of the two varieties.
3903 Merlot, Terra Nova 2006 9 9 Still a good bottle.
3904 Cabernet Sauvignon, Terra Nova 2006 9 9 It has now come together, with both the fruit and once rough
tannins now smoothly together.
3905 Carmenère, Terra Nova 2005 10 10 No point in holding on any longer, it is fully mature.
Still well balanced with good structure.
3908 Sergio Traverso Memorable, N.V. 8 9 Drinking well and showing little advance towards maturity.
Founders’ Choice Typically elegant Traverso style.
Cellar Offering 173
3912 Cabernet/Merlot “Jaras”, 2002 10 10 Right at the edge of its maturity. The colour is still good,
DOC Alto Adige but much of the early vigour and life has declined.
3914 Chardonnay “Cardellino”, 2005 10 10 A wine that gives a fine indication of the winemaker’s talents.
DOC Alto Adige, E Walch It is pure, clean and what is expected of a maturing
Chardonnay.
3918 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, 2003 8 9 Notes of figs, dates, prunes – all the dried fruits. Still huge,
Delibori but softness has superceded the tannic edges.
3919 Sangiovese Toscano Rosso, IGT 2006 9 10 Still an attractive companion. Drink now. There is no profit in waiting.
3920 Chianti, DOCG, Fratelli Corsi 2006 9 9 Good vinosity. Mature. Grainy fruit with leafy, warm aromas.
3921 Montecarlo Rosso, DOC, 2005 8 8 A delicious, “gluggable” mouthfiller. Soft and opulently fruity.
Fattoria del Teso Quite a rustic and charming red.
3923 Chianti Colli Senesi, DOCG, 2006 9 9 Soft, rounded, easy flavours. Some oak notes. To be
Casa della Terra enjoyed this year.
Wine Review 2010
The Cornellana wines of the 2005 vintage were close to
being ready to drink shortly after bottling, when their fruit
was oozing out of the fruit laden aromas. So maturity can
only be measured in the time that they have remained
delicious. These, from the 2005 vintage, remain in this
review because they have shown their ability to develop,
soften and build their characters in a steady progress.
