Cellar Offering 166
3514 Salice Salentino, Torrevento 2004 10 10 What started as a mass of sweet fruit, became a full-bodied
and strongly flavoured red. Deep in colour and ripe. Drink this
year.
3521 Trockenbeerenauslese, Höpler 2001 9 9 Although taking on colour and obvious age, it is still close
to perfection. Austrian Trockenbeerenauslesen are rather
lighter than their German counterparts, but this is sufficiently
full-bodied to withstand age and any test.
3522 Eiswein, Höpler 2004 8 8 Höpler’s late picked wines do not perform to a strict
timetable. This one has ebbed and flowed, but it has
always been superbly integrated with the required high
acidity to balance the grape sugars.
3526 Eppelsheimer Felsen Gewürztraminer, 2005 9 9 This is a late harvested, but excellent, example of the fatness
Spätlese and richness of the Pfalz regional Gewürz. Rubbery. Aromatic.
Stone fruit flavoured. A great wine.
3527 Gundersheimer Höllenbrand, 2003 7 8 One could write a book about this, or merely note that it is
Kerner, Beerenauslese timeless. Will develop evenly and, over many years, darken,
becoming more honey flavoured.
3528 Ruppertsberger Nussbien, 2005 10 10 Very fine wine. Will take more age, but it is now riding a crest.
Riesling Kabinett Indicates the finest quality of production in the perfection of
its balance.
3531 Rüdesheimer Riesling, 2005 9 10 Lovely wine, but the freshness of the Riesling has given
Halbtrocken Kabinett ground to the typical kerosene aromas found in older Rieslings.
Cellar Offering 167
3548 Château Hortevie, Saint-Julien 2003 9 9 Supple and soft, good structure and length. Getting better by
the month, it can be hugely enjoyable now.
3549 Château Monbrison, Margaux 2003 8 9 Highly praised in the wine press when it was first offered, it
has lived up to all the hype and promise. Drinking perfectly
now, but it will go on for several years.
3550 Château La Confession Grand Cru, 2003 9 9 The first offering made from this property, where the wine
Saint-Émilion is made by the masterly Jean-Philippe Janoueix. Superb,
balanced, harmonious and showing all its parts as one.
A really beautiful example of a very fine vintage.
3552 Cuvée du Fondateur, AOC Bordeaux 2004 9 10
Supérieur, Founders’ Choice
3557 ‘S’ de Suduiraut, Bordeaux 2004 9 9 It retains the honeyed, rich nose that indicates that the wine
is sweet. This is one of the rarities of Bordeaux - a perfectly
delicious, but entirely dry Sauternes.
3561 Château Haut Nadeau, 2003 9 9 Remains a stylish, but now mature, wine. Notes of chocolate
Bordeaux Supérieur augment the red fruit and berry flavours. No rush needed.
3570 Château de Sours Rouge, Bordeaux 2004 9 10 Easy. No longer showing the pungent attack of earlier
tastings, but still a delightful glass of fine claret.
3571 La Source Rouge, Bordeaux 2004 9 9 Still fine. Good colour, little sign of fading. While the red fruit
level remains high, the wine will go on and on and on.
