2.3.9 Car Parking<br />
Car parking is provided for employees, delivery personnel and visitors at the <strong>facility</strong>. The location of the<br />
car park is detailed on Drawing No. 5361-2402. This is a hardstanding and paved area of concrete<br />
construction.<br />
2.3.10 Other Services<br />
Other services that have been provided at the site include:<br />
• Telephone system;<br />
• Water from an on-site borehole;<br />
• 400v three phase electricity (including on site substation);<br />
• A standby diesel generator;<br />
• Double skin fuel bowser;<br />
2.4 SITE MANAGEMENT<br />
The <strong>facility</strong> manager is responsible for the day to day operation of the <strong>facility</strong> in compliance with all<br />
legislative and regulatory requirements. The <strong>facility</strong> manager is part of the Thorntons Recycling<br />
management team and regularly prepares reports on the operation of the <strong>facility</strong> for attendance at<br />
meetings at Thorntons Recycling headquarters in Parkwest Business Park, Dublin 12.<br />
2.4.1 Working Hours<br />
The <strong>facility</strong> operates, as permitted, on a daily basis from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and<br />
8.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. The hours of operation will be the same for the extended <strong>compost</strong>ing<br />
<strong>facility</strong> following the proposed extension.<br />
The aeration of the <strong>compost</strong>ing process will operate on a continuous basis (24 hours per day; 7 days<br />
per week), and will be computer controlled in the absence of an operator on-site.<br />
Waste that is accepted at the <strong>compost</strong>ing <strong>facility</strong> at or near closure of operating hours will be<br />
discharged in the waste reception area, stored overnight and handled during the next working day.<br />
2.4.2 Employment<br />

The existing <strong>compost</strong>ing process, as described earlier, is a highly automated process. There are 4 No.<br />
personnel currently employed to operate the Kilmainhamwood Compost <strong>facility</strong>, to process 20,800<br />
tonnes per annum in accordance with current permissions. The current staff is comprised of a <strong>facility</strong><br />
manager, production supervisor and two general operatives.<br />
