Welcome to Kernock Park Plants
Growing Innovations 2024
Welcome to our newest edition of Growing Innovations from Kernock Park
Plants. Typically, at this time of the year, we reflect on the season past and
look at what went well, perhaps what didn’t go so well; what to improve
going forward….
Once again, we have a veritable “cocktail” of factors that have continued
to impact our market. Inflationary pressures - influences of the Ukrainian
situation as well as hangover of COVID and Brexit, have been key stimuli
over the past year or so. We’ve been focussed, more than ever to try and
find efficiencies to help quash consequential price rises to our customers.
Veronica Magic Show 'Pink Potion'
Following the general downturn for plant sales at retail level in summer 2022,
we were braced for the inevitable cautious approach from our customers. This
restraint seemed well placed at the start of the year, as retail sales were yet
again slow to get going for most. Mother nature of course thankfully played
her part once again, providing good gardening weather for most of the UK and
mainland Europe. This dictated that sales would flow nicely from spring into
summer.
This latest spell of poor weather and subsequent tempering of retail sales is a
prominent reminder that the weather is once again in the driving seat when it
comes to shaping the appetite of the gardening public.
BBC Gardeners' World Live - Flower Meadow
We very much hope that customer confidence has not been unduly knocked
and we can go forward into next year with a sense of realistic optimism.
On reflection over the season past…. We’ve had some fascinating sideline projects including producing seventy square
metres of flower meadow for Paul Stone's headline show garden at BBC Gardener’s World in June. We’ve also been
assisting conservation efforts with The Eden Project to help restore areas of native wildflowers. We’ve been busy
looking at many fantastic indoor tropical plants (more to come later in the year on that) and of course helping the
country celebrate the King’s Coronation with many spectacular InstaPlant designs - this year mostly created as
hardy beds due to the early timing of the coronation.
So, what will we serve up for 2024?... Well, we have another bumper catalogue packed with great varieties, including
nearly eighty new items. We’re happy to be blessed with hundreds of breeders and agents that represent breeders
from all over the world, offering their new plant varieties and ideas to us each year. Proven Winners is a global group
that provides many of our new introductions year on year, but as every year, we have several introductions from other
global agents such as Plantipp, based in The Netherlands: Echeveria Devotion (this year’s front cover) a UK exclusive
for us and a few other of their finest offerings such as Gazania Suncarpet and Euphorbia Miner’s Merlot.
A breeder that we have known for many years due to their partnership with Proven Winners in America is Walters
Gardens. We have several new items such as Phlox Opening Act and Veronica Magic Wands that are a fantastic
augment to our range - also exclusive to Kernock this season! Please see the next few pages for more information and
a summary of our newest offerings.
We have the normal run of tradeshows coming up: Four
Oaks Trade Show just weeks away in September (5th-6th
September 2023) and of course our very own South West
Growers Show on the 4th October. We’re thrilled to have
even more exhibitors returning to the show and visitors are
already signing up to come along for the day. Please let us
know if you plan to visit and we’ll get you pre-registered.
As always, we are very grateful to our loyal customers who
come back to us perennially. We hope that we have done
our bit to contribute to your success this past year and will
continue to do so going forward.

What's New for 2024?
With over 70 outstanding new introductions for the new season, many of which are brand new to market, it’s always tricky to select
the highlights. What about we start with some “Sunshine Sizzlers” – our annual offerings good enough for a “sweet shop”! We’ve
expanded on already successful series with two new Calibrachoa Superbells® ‘Honey Peach’, with intense, two-tone orange flowers
that excel all summer with great weather resistance. ‘Over Easy’ is another delight with larger flowers that resemble cracked eggs!
Vista® Petunia are a series that continue to inspire gardeners across the globe. 'Jazzberry' continues this with a performance few can
rival. Countless, large blooms of intense pink all summer long.
Taking centre stage in our “Premium Annuals” selection is another Proven Winner Choice. The Osteospermum SummerSmile
Series is a fantastic new line-up, specifically chosen to provide improved blooms from spring through summer, uniform across the
range, so making excellent introductions for both grower and gardener. Six new varieties are available in a wide and vivid colour
palette. Watch out also for the fantastic Gazania Suncarpet – a treat with masses of magnificent orange flowers on glossy green
foliage.
What about some amazing perennials? Well, we have a wide selection to enjoy: Some new Inca Alstroemeria, Phlox and Veronica
ranges exclusive to Kernock Park Plants from Walters Gardens bring some amazing colour to the summer garden. Caryopteris
‘First Blue’ is a compact hardy shrub, with upright stems of glossy serrated foliage. Clusters of small, detailed deep blue flowers up
to three months earlier than other similar Caryopteris!!
Sedum ‘Dark Canyon’ and ‘Rocky’ are partner varieties with sumptuous foliage and flower colour and spectacular habits. Echeveria
'Devotion' is a real cracker related closely to species setosa and pulvinata, but this time with significantly more pronounced vibrant
velvet-burgundy colour as the plant develops, especially with a good dose of warm, sunny conditions. It must be seen to be believed!
Kernock are always on the lookout for quirky novelties and upcoming trends. Leontopodium souliei, usually found in mountainous
regions of China, with silvery-green matting foliage that produces star-shaped edelweiss flowers covered in tiny hairs, giving a
sensory treat. Senecio 'Angel Wings' is also a show-stopper with its large, luxuriant, textured silvery-grey foliage, with serrated
edging allow this surprisingly robust plant to thrill in borders and containers.
As normal, we have far too many new plants to mention above so please do look closely over the next few pages for anything that
takes your fancy. And remember, to find out more information about any of these plants do check out our website and YouTube
channel for some fantastic product videos. - www.youtube.com/kernockparkplants

2024 Kernock Park Plants 7
Many of our customers tell us that when it comes to ordering
plants from our catalogue, they feel like a "kid in a sweet shop",
almost overwhelmed with choice!
So, if you simply want a large variety of plants from certain
ranges, let us take the decisions for you! Simply choose one of
our Pot Luck ranges available.
The trays will comprise mixed selections of plugs from some of
our most popular assortments. The selections within the tray
cannot be specified by the customer, but will be allocated at the
time of despatch based on popularity and availability at the time.
A coloured picture label will be sent to match each plant within
the selections made.
To enable us to make appropriate selections, organise and mix
trays accordingly means that the window of opportunity to offer
these selections will be restricted to the weeks stated in the table
below for each assortment.
Amazing Alpines Perfect Perennials Premium Perennials
This charming group of alpines are essentially
hardy perennials that are used to tough love.
Life in harsh, often dry, cold conditions, but
absolutely flourish in our spring and summer
with delightful foliage and often bright flowers.
Alpines are usually evergreen, but some, such
as Sedum will die back over winter, reserving
their energy to revitalise the following spring.
We have such a wonderful range of Perennials,
so there is no shortage to choose from for
our "Perfect Perennials" selection. Perennials
are generally evergreen (keeping their foliage
over winter), or herbaceous, meaning they die
down in winter and revive again in spring and
summer ready to show off yet again!
Premium by name, premium by nature! If you
want to receive some of the most popular,
often newest lines of perennials that we
produce, then go for "Premium Perennials".
Like the "Perfect Perennials” selection, these
are cold hardy varieties which will withstand
most situations in British gardens through
winter as mature plants.
Savvy Succulents Sunshine Sizzlers Super Shrubs
Succulents have been increasingly popular
in recent years, particularly during drought
years when gardeners decide to plant some
containers and raised beds including plants
that are less demanding when it comes to
water. Some of this range are cold hardy,
others not so hardy.
Imagine being in a sweet shop as a child
and picking all the most colourful, vibrant
sweets for your pick & mix pot…. Well we will
provide the same experience with this fabulous
selection of some of the best flowering plants
for summer containers and baskets.
If it's more "shrubby" items that you need
to make a long-term structure and form in
garden beds and borders, then this selection
is right for you. Here is a combination of some
wonderful bushes and small shrubs, all of
which are cold hardy in normal winters in the
UK and Ireland.

Whether you are seeking an eye catching plant for the border, something

diverse Dahlia are just what you're looking for. With surprisingly little effort,
they will continuously flower to their heart's content in a sunny spot until
the first frosts arrive in late autumn. Over the years, we have selected and
cleaned some of the best vegetative Dahlia varieties. Often bronze-leaved
forms to offer as plug plants, rather than tubers, for instant rooting and

A wonderful selection of graceful grass-like beauties
that produce pendulous flowers in the summer.
PLEASE NOTE - All Dierama species and hybrids listed
are seed raised varieties grown in the open field. There is
significant potential for cross pollination by wind or insect
and therefore we cannot always guarantee the specific
flower colour. Some varieties are more likely to throw up
beautiful, but non-specific flower colours.
