STANDARD BANK | ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL
THE STANDARD BANK ASPIRE SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
GROW IMPACT hereby presents its approach to the Program, based on its
understanding and direct experience, with the aim of enhancing the standards, skills,
and capacities of SMMEs. The specific focus is on establishing long-term procurement
relationships, sustainable growth, local economic development, and the development
of self-sustaining and independent SMEs.
The program is expected to be implemented through a series of linked phases, as
outlined below and discussed in detail further on in our proposal:
Program
Management
Supplier Onboarding
Business
Development
Reporting
A. Program Management
GROW IMPACT is appointing a dedicated Program Manager responsible for steering
the execution of the program in alignment with the implementation plan. With
extensive experience in Supplier Development and a background in the hospitality
industry, this Program Manager significantly contributes to the program's successful
implementation, ensuring outcomes are in sync with Standard Bank's requirements
and B-BBEE compliance. Initially, the Program Manager will collaborate with Standard
Bank to establish a cross-functional team within the organization. This team will act as
a centralised contact point for the overall program implementation, convening
regularly on a quarterly basis to evaluate and discuss the program's deliverables and
make any required adjustments.
B. SMME On-boarding
Following the identification of opportunities in the collaborative Strategy Workshop,
the next critical step is to engage SMMEs associated with specific supply chain
opportunities. GROW IMPACT has recognised this approach as notably more effective
in fostering enduring relationships, particularly as the ESD program aims to establish
robust procurement partnerships. Our experience emphasises the substantial
improvement in program success when SMMEs possess a comprehensive
understanding of its structure before committing.
C. SMME Criteria Development
The objective is to select SMME participants through a rigorous screening process.
involves a methodical evaluation to ensure the selection of qualified and compatible
SMMEs for participation. This process typically encompasses several key steps:
1. Eligibility Criteria Assessment
Establishing predetermined criteria to assess the eligibility of SMMEs. This might
include factors such as business size, B-BBEE compliance, industry alignment, legal
and regulatory conformity, financial stability, and potential for growth.
2. Application and Document review
Requiring potential SMMEs to complete an application providing details about their
business, objectives, capabilities, and compliance. Documentation verification
might involve reviewing financial statements, legal documents, certifications, and
licenses.
3. In-depth Evaluation
Conducting a comprehensive analysis of the SMME's operational structure, past
performance, market positioning, product or service offerings, quality standards,
and overall business practices.
4. Assessment of Commitment
Evaluating the SMME's dedication and commitment to participating in the
program, including understanding the program's goals, potential benefits, and
willingness to engage in the partnership and follow the outlined processes.
5. Selection and Decision
After the assessments, the selection process involves evaluating the gathered
information to make informed decisions on the most suitable SMMEs for
participation in the program.
The screening process ensures that the chosen SMMEs are aligned with the program's
objectives, possess the capability to benefit from the support provided, and can
contribute effectively to the program's success.
The Program Manager will then schedule meetings with the Standard Bank team, with
a primary focus on individuals in procurement and end users.
D. SMME Sourcing
Adhering to the predefined criteria, GROW IMPACT will partner with Standard Bank to
strategise campaigns focused on entrepreneur identification.
These initiatives will encompass the exploration of potential candidates through
diverse platforms and media channels, aligning closely with the recognised supply
chain opportunities.
Should Standard Bank have previously identified SMMEs, GROW IMPACT will leverage the
existing database provided.
E. Business Development and Coaching of SMMES
The program is estimated for the first 12 months and initial intake of enterprise
development beneficiaries with the intention to onboard new SMMEs once existing
SMMEs qualify as Standard Bank suppliers.
The 12-month business development and coaching portion of the ASPIRE Enterprise
Development Program consists of the following:
F. Funding Readiness Programs
As the SMMEs progress and expand, the inevitable need for funding will arise. To
assist these SMEs in securing funding, after completing the initial discovery phase of
the program, GROW IMPACT will conduct personalised assessments of their funding
requirements to precisely determine how and where the funds will be used.
Additionally, Funding Bootcamps will be organised to equip SMEs with the necessary
skills to meet the expectations of potential funders when they apply for funding.
Furthermore, the readiness of businesses to access funding can be monitored using
the GROW IMPACT Catalyzer, which indicates the optimal time for a business to seek
funding. This determination is made based on various financial and operational
algorithms derived from the collected data. The impact of this funding will be
continually assessed and tracked throughout the remainder of the program.
G. Program Reporting
Our cost breakdown includes comprehensive Portfolio Progress Reports provided on
a quarterly basis, offering insights into the development of each participating SME.
These reports will encompass feedback on various dashboard components, such as
turnover growth rate and profitability. Any issues related to non-participation or
subpar performance by entrepreneurs will be communicated through these reports.
The elements covered in this report serve as strong indicators of the program's
effectiveness.
Upon the program's completion, a final close-out report will be compiled. This report
will provide a comprehensive overview of each SME's overall performance throughout
the program, based on the quarterly report elements. It will reflect the program's
outcomes, remaining challenges, growth achieved, and offer recommendations for
future programs.
