WINTER HIKES
AROUND AMA STAY
WITH OUR MOUNTAIN GUIDES
FRITZ & KLAUS PROMBERGER
Fritz and Klaus, our unbeatable tour guide duo, will
take you on impressive snowshoe tours and winter
hikes in the Dolomites.
Klaus has just completed his hiking guide training and is now looking
forward to taking his guests to experience nature first-hand not only
as their experienced companion, but also as a hiking guide. Klaus loves
the Dolomites and has a unique passion for nature. It’s not surprising
given that he grew up here and came face to face with the Dolomites
on a daily basis! That has an effect on you without a doubt!
Klaus, what is the first thing that comes to mind when you want to
give someone tips for winter hikes in the mountains?
Preparation is key. And this includes (1) well-fitting, high-quality footwear.
When snowshoeing, it is particularly important to adjust your
shoes the day before so that they don‘t constantly come undone during
the hike. Anyone travelling with snowshoes also needs (2) the right
poles with large snow baskets. The poles are necessary for support
because we stand with our feet wider apart and also lift our knees up
higher with every step through the deep snow. (3) Layer up: At first
we feel cold, but as soon as we start moving our whole body - especially
our arms - we get warm and start perspiring. At this point, it is
important to take off your top layer and put it in your backpack. If you
don‘t do this, you will perspire more and put more strain on your body.
Everything becomes more strenuous if your body cannot breathe properly,
which brings us to the next point. (4) Change of clothes: These
should always be in your backpack. You should change your clothes at
the very latest when you get to the mountain hut or the highest point
- even if it is cold. Nothing beats dry clothes. (5) A thermos flask of tea
and a little snack is just the ticket when we‘re feeling low on energy.
In terms of potential risks, hiking in winter is no different to ski touring.
Avalanches are unpredictable and can occur both nearby and far
away, yet still come threateningly close. This is why an (6) avalanche
transceiver is an advantage - but only if you know how it works. A
shovel and probe are also recommended especially on more challenging
tours.
”
Winterwandern
“Being in the mountains gives
me an incredible amount of
energy. It‘s like a tonic for the
body and soul. It‘s even nicer
when I go up a mountain with
a group and see how exhilarated
they are afterwards.
Making this possible for you is
a wonderful experience for me.
The magic of the Dolomites is
simply unmissable.”
TOUR GUIDE
- Medizin für
die Seele. Unser unschlagbares
Tourguide-Team Fritz und Klaus nimmt
dich im Winter mit auf eindrucksvolle
Schneeschuhtouren und Winterwanderungen
in den Dolomiten. Klaus
hat vor kurzem seine Ausbildung zum
Wanderführer abgeschlossen und
teilt seine große Leidenschaft für die
Natur mit dir auf leichten und mittelschweren
Touren durch die verschneite
Landschaft. Im AMA Stay kannst du
Schneeschuhe, Stöcke und Rucksäcke
ausleihen, Thermoskannen und Handschuhe
sind im Shop erhältlich. Die
meisten Touren führen Klaus und Vater
Fritz gemeinsam. Zu zweit haben sie
die Gruppe besser im Blick. Außerdem
hat jeder unterschiedliche Erfahrungen
und Kenntnisse einzubringen. Fritz
ist einfach bewundernswert unterhaltsam
und allwissend. Und Klaus
bringt technisches Know-how und
den einen oder anderen Exkurs über
die Dolomiten mit. Er ist fast jede freie
Minute draußen. Auch über Nacht im
Zelt. Er kennt die Dolomiten in- und
auswendig. Die Lieblings-Schneeschuhwanderung
des Vater-Sohn-Gespanns
ist mittelschwer und dauert
ca. 4 Stunden (hin und zurück): von
Welschellen über die Welschellner Alm
zum Glittner See.
What is the difference between snowshoeing and winter hiking?
The snowshoes! Snowshoeing is a special type of winter hiking where
you also walk through deep snow. When hiking in winter with sturdy,
waterproof footwear, you are more likely to walk on prepared paths or
tracks already made by others.
And who does what in your father-son team?
We do most of the tours together. This is also important when it comes
to larger groups. With two people you can oversee the group better.
In addition, each of us brings different experience and expertise to the
table. My father is admirable, not only because he is so entertaining
but also because he is a fountain of knowledge. I provide the technical
know-how and one or two stories about the Dolomites. I‘m out there
almost every free minute I have and sometimes even overnight in a
tent. I know the Dolomites inside and out.
What equipment can you rent at AMA Stay?
At AMA Stay you can rent snowshoes, poles and backpacks. Thermos
flasks and gloves are available for purchase in the shop. Equipment
can be stored neatly in our ski room lockers.
l’anima.
e medio-facili attraverso i paesaggi
innevati. Da AMA Stay puoi noleggiare
