Un Ospite di Venezia-11-2023
Around the middle of the century, Francesco Hayez portrays Matilde, a young noblewoman from the Pirovano Visconti di Modrone family: an undoubtedly splendid work by an artist recognized as the main exponent of the Italian Romantic movement. This is the image we have chosen to open this month to introduce one of the most important artistic and cultural events of the year: the reconstruction, a hundred years later, of what turned out to be a true event, an exhibition that brought to light the Venetian art of an entire century, long overshadowed by the mythologizing of the preceding one, the 18th century.

Ubicato nel quattrocentesco Palazzo Zorzi, possiede un ampia corte interna che nella bella stagione
è ricoperta da un vigneto, dal quale, unico a Venezia viene vendemmiato un vino dolce, particolarmente
apprezzato. Il Giardinetto propone specialità veneziane come le sarde in saor, bigoli in
salsa, granceola e l’apprezzata castradina, il tutto accompagnato da ottimi vini nazionali.
In the heart of the Castello district, minutes from Saint
Mark’s Square and from Rialto, the Ristorante Al Giardinetto
by Severino has offered its guests typical Venetian
cuisine dishes since the early 1900s. Located in 15th century
Palazzo Zorzi, it boasts a big inner courtyard roofed by
a vine in the good season, from which a sweet, particularly
appreciated wine is harvested, a unique case in Venice. The
Giardinetto offers Venetian specialties like pickled sardines

prized castradina mutton, all accompanied by excellent national
wines.
