Around the middle of the century, Francesco Hayez portrays Matilde, a young noblewoman from the Pirovano Visconti di Modrone family: an undoubtedly splendid work by an artist recognized as the main exponent of the Italian Romantic movement. This is the image we have chosen to open this month to introduce one of the most important artistic and cultural events of the year: the reconstruction, a hundred years later, of what turned out to be a true event, an exhibition that brought to light the Venetian art of an entire century, long overshadowed by the mythologizing of the preceding one, the 18th century.

Cimitero monumentale, Isola di San Michele.
Messa solenne giovedì 2 novembre (ore 10).
Tradizionale ricorrenza in memoria dei defunti
con funzione religiosa celebrata dal Patriarca di
Venezia.
Il Cimitero di Venezia nato con l’editto napoleonico
del 1804 e oggi inserito nel circuito europeo
dei cimiteri monumentali conserva tra le altre, le
lapidi di Sergej Diaghilev, celebre fondatore del
balletto russo, del compositore Igor Stravinskij,
del poeta Ezra Pound.
Orario di visita prolungato fino al 2 novembre alle
ore 17.00.

• LA FESTA
DELLA MADONNA DELLA SALUTE
Basilica della Salute, martedì 21 novembre.
Tradizionale pellegrinaggio e festa popolare a
ricordo di un voto della città rivolto alla Vergine
Maria contro la terribile epidemia di peste avvenuta
nel 1630.
Un ponte di barche posato per l'occasione sul
Canal Grande da sabato 18, favorirà il passaggio
della folla dalla zona di San Marco.
Il programma che verrà diffuso alcuni giorni prima
della festa, comprenderà una messa solenne
celebrata dal Patriarca di Venezia, visite guidate
alla chiesa e alle sue opere, aperture speciali dei
musei circostanti.
Per l'occasione saranno allestiti i tradizionali banchetti
votivi e di specialità veneziane

Commemoration of the Dead.
Solemn Mass on Thursday 2nd November
(10am). Traditional recurrence in memory of the
departed with a solemn Mass celebrated by the
Patriarch of Venice.
Times and visiting modes on remembrance day
and on the following days may be subject to
changes imposed by the latest law rulings.
The Venice Cemetery, born of a Napoleonic decree
in 1804 and currently part of the European
monumental cemeteries circuit, hosts the gravestones
of the famous founder of Russian ballet
Sergei Diaghilev, composer Igor Stravinsky and
poet Ezra Pound, among others. Visiting hours
will be extended until 5pm for the occasion.

• FETE OF THE MADONNA OF HEALTH
Basilica della Salute, Tuesday 21 November.
Traditional pilgrimage and popular fete in remembrance
of a vow made by the city of the Virgin
Mary against the terrible plague epidemic of
1630. A boat of bridges laid over the Grand Canal
for this occasion will aid crossing from the St.
Mark area (from Saturday 18).
The program, which will be broadcast a few days
before the feast, will include a solemn mass celebrated
by the Patriarch of Venice, guided tours of
the church and its works, special openings of the
surrounding museums.
For the occasion, traditional votive banquets and
Venetian specialties will be set up
