Around the middle of the century, Francesco Hayez portrays Matilde, a young noblewoman from the Pirovano Visconti di Modrone family: an undoubtedly splendid work by an artist recognized as the main exponent of the Italian Romantic movement. This is the image we have chosen to open this month to introduce one of the most important artistic and cultural events of the year: the reconstruction, a hundred years later, of what turned out to be a true event, an exhibition that brought to light the Venetian art of an entire century, long overshadowed by the mythologizing of the preceding one, the 18th century.

The Collection offers guided tours
to discover the works from the permanent
collection, as well as the
Hannelore B. and Rudolph B. Schulhof
Collections and also from the
Nasher Sculpture Garden.
Guided tours can be booked every
day of the week from 10am to
4.30pm, except Tuesday (closure
day).
The cost of the visit must be added
to the price of the entrance ticket to
the museum.
On request, personalised tours or
private visits outside the usual opening
hours can be arranged according
to specific needs.

Dopo l’intervento di valorizzazione
l’Appartamento del Doge
torna a far parte del percorso
espositivo di Palazzo Ducale.
L’allestimento racconta la storia
dei 120 Dogi che hanno governato
la città con dipinti, sculture
e documenti che illustrano la figura
del Doge e la sua importanza
nella Repubblica di Venezia.
Il percorso si conclude con l’abdicazione
dell’ultimo Doge, Ludovico
Manin nel 1797, che segnò
la fine della Repubblica.

Following enhancement work, the
Doge’s Apartment is returning as a
part of the Ducal Palace exhibition
circuit. The showcase recounts the
history of the 120 Doges who ruled
the city, with paintings, sculptures
and documents illustrating the
Doge’s figure and his importance
within the Republic of Venice. The
itinerary ends with the abdication
of the last Doge, Ludovico Manin in
1797, which marked the end of the
Republic.
