Il saluto del Sindaco
Benvenuti a Venezia, la più antica città del futuro, patria di arti e bellezze, crocevia
di culture e luogo di accoglienza e di dialogo dove storia e tradizione si amalgamano
alla perfezione con sviluppo e innovazione.
Benvenuti in una Città che, dopo i mesi bui iniziati nel novembre del 2019 con la
disastrosa acqua alta e continuati con la terribile pandemia, è pronta a rinascere e
lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla sua
fondazione.
Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto
il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.
Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo
paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà
unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.
Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,
porto off-shore e lo sviluppo di Porto Marghera, sono le scommesse per il rilancio di questo
territorio che, oltre ad essere meta turistica, vuole porsi, sempre più, come grande capitale delle
culture e delle economie collegate.

Welcome to Venice, the most ancient city of the future, a homeland of arts and beauties, a crossroads of cultures
and a location of welcome and dialogue where history and tradition blend perfectly with development
and innovation.
Welcome to a City that is ready, following those dark months beginning in November 2019 with a disastrous
high water and continuing with the terrible pandemic, for a rebirth taking place concurrently with the inception
of celebrations for the 1600 years since its foundation.
Venice is living once again, and doing so with the courage and determination that have always distinguished
its being the Queen of Seas and a symbol of unity between its Stato da Mar and Stato da Tera, or Marine State
and Land State.
A delicate balance, which has forever characterised the varied aspects making up its landscape - from its
islands to its whole metropolitan territory - creating a unique tourist offer and reality worldwide, which
everyone is called upon to respect and preserve.
Venice is and shall always be a vibrant city believing in the future: innovation, novel manufacturing, an offshore
port and the development of Porto Marghera are the challenges for relaunching this territory, which
wishes to position itself increasingly, in addition to being a tourist destination, as a great capital for cultures
and their related economies.

St. Mark’s Square is a monumental site and
excluding pertinent bars and restaurants, it is
forbidden to stand at any time in order to consume
food or drink.
Venice is a city of art: it is forbidden to camp,
walk about in swimwear, dive and swim. The
beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily
reached.
Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do
not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not
give food to the pigeons.
If you are staying in an apartment or flat, please
get informed about the garbage recycling
collection.
Plan your trip and choose to visit Venice when it
is less crowded.

Triveneta delle Chiavi d’Oro.
A distanza di anni questa pubblicazione prosegue nel

questa associazione.

members of the Golden Keys Triveneto
Association.
Years later, this periodical is still ongoing, also
thanks to its partnership with this association.

La riscoperta
dell’Ottocento…
Siamo attorno alla metà del secolo, Francesco Hayez ritrae Matilde, giovane
nobildonna della casata Pirovano Visconti di Modrone: un’opera indubbiamente
splendida, di un’artista riconosciuto come il principale esponente della corrente
romantica italiana.
E’ l’immagine che abbiamo scelto in apertura di questo mese per introdurre uno
degli avvenimenti artistici-culturali più importanti dell’anno: la ricostruzione a
cent’anni di distanza, di quello che si rivelò come un vero e proprio evento, una
esposizione che riportò alla luce l’arte veneziana di un intero secolo, oscurato per
molto tempo dalla mitizzazione di quello precedente, il Settecento.
Era appunto il 1923 quando Nino Barbantini - primo Direttore della Galleria d’Arte
Moderna di Ca’ Pesaro - oggi "internazionale" - organizzò e allestì l’importante
esposizione dal titolo “Il ritratto veneziano dell’Ottocento”.
Ne scaturì uno straordinario successo di pubblico e di stampa che inaugurò un
nuovo corso della Galleria veneziana e dell’attività di Barbantini, indirizzata, durante
gli anni Venti, alla progettazione di significative esposizioni monografiche su
periodi o singoli protagonisti dell’arte italiana.
Oggi, la Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, dopo un lungo e complesso lavoro di
ricerca che ha portato a rintracciare ben 166 opere di 52 artisti, ci riporta a quella
storica occasione per rivedere di nuovo assieme in una mostra, dallo stesso titolo,
i volti di numerosi protagonisti della società, dell’arte, della cultura, della vita, di un
territorio che da Venezia si estendeva fino al Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Un affascinante percorso, suddiviso in quattro sezioni, accompagnerà il visitatore
lungo il corso di un secolo che dal Congresso di Vienna (1815) arriverà alla travagliata
unificazione d’Italia, toccando quelli che furono i protagonisti dell’epoca e i
modi di vita della società dell’Ottocento, per concludersi con il “Ritratto, verso la
modernità”, dove sarà evidente il segno di un cambiamento che presto porterà ad
una nuova dimensione, quella del Novecento.
Insomma, per tutti gli appassionati, ma non solo, una mostra e un’occasione unica…
da non perdere.

Rediscovering
the Nineteenth century…
We are about mid-century, when Francesco
Hayez portrays Matilde, a young noblewoman
from the Pirovano Visconti di Modrone family:
an undoubtedly splendid artwork, by an artist
acknowledged as the principal exponent of the
Italian Romantic current.
It is the image we have chosen for opening this
month, in order to introduce one of the most important
artistic and cultural events of the year:
the reconstruction, one hundred years later, of
what revealed itself to be a true occasion, an exhibition
highlighting a century-long Venetian art,
eclipsed for a long time by the former Eighteenth
century's legend.
It was precisely 1923, when Nino Barbantini –
the first Director of the Ca’ Pesaro Modern Art
Gallery – today International - organised and
set up a seminal exhibition entitled “The Nineteenth-century
Venetian portrait”.
The result was an extraordinary success both in
terms of public and press, inaugurating a new
course for the Venetian Gallery and for Barbantini's
activity, aimed, during the Twenties, at planning
significant monographic exhibitions about
periods or individual protagonists in Italian art.
Today, following long-term and complex research
work which has led to sourcing 166 artworks by
52 artists, the Venice City Museums Foundation
takes us back to that historic occasion, to view
the countenances of several society, art, culture
and life figures together again in an exhibition
with that same title, from a territory extending
from Venice to Friuli Venezia Giulia.
A fascinating journey, divided in four sections,
accompanying visitors along the
century's whole span, leading
from the Congress of Vienna
(1815) to the troubled unification
of Italy, touching on the
protagonists of that age and
Nineteenth century lifestyles
of society, concluding with the
"Portrait, towards modernity",
where evident signs of change
will soon lead to a new dimension,
the Twentieth century.
To sum it up, an exhibition for all
enthusiasts, but not only, and a
unique opportunity... not to be
missed.
Fascino e attrazioni
del novembre veneziano
Con l’autunno tutto sembra rallentare, offrendo
una parvenza di pace, di tranquillità, sensazioni
oggi, purtroppo, sempre più rare a trovarsi.
Venezia sembra ancor più immergersi nel suo
elemento naturale, quell’acqua da dove è nata.
Le prime foschie lagunari e le tenue luci della
sera la fanno quasi tornare indietro nel tempo.
E’ il momento di vivere appieno la città attraverso
le emozioni che suscita ma anche per tutto ciò
che offre attraverso i suoi musei, le sue chiese, i
suoi teatri… le sue manifestazioni.
Ecco allora a seguire, come da nostra consuetudine,
qualche spunto su un’offerta che non lascia
dubbi, per qualità e forza attrattiva.
Partiamo come spesso accade da La Biennale,
l’istituzione culturale veneziana per eccellenza,
nota nel mondo per una produzione che da oltre
un secolo promuove le tendenze delle Arti e della
Cultura del mondo contemporaneo.
La Mostra internazionale di Architettura
Oltre che per l’indubbio valore intrinseco va segnalata
per il suo ultimo mese di presenza: la 18.
edizione chiuderà infatti definitivamente i battenti
il 26 di novembre.
Promossa da La Biennale di Venezia questa maxi-esposizione
si sviluppa lungo un vasto percorso
attraverso la mostra tematica, articolata tra il
padiglione centrale ai Giardini, il vasto complesso
dell’Arsenale ed alcuni spazi in terraferma.
Il laboratorio del futuro, questo il titolo assegnatole
dalla curatrice Lesley Lokko, si presenta
come una visione sul prossimo futuro del mondo
e sul rapporto tra uomo e ambiente partendo dal

quel continente che più di tutti sta attraversando un cambiamento epocale, l’Africa.
L’esposizione comprende come di consueto le Partecipazioni nazionali (quest’anno
63) con singole mostre allestite nei Padiglioni ai Giardini e all’Arsenale oltre
che nel centro storico. A queste, si affiancano una serie di esposizioni collaterali.
Le Mostre d’Arte
Anche in questo caso il panorama è vastissimo e arricchito nel mese da alcune
recenti novità.
Della prima esposizione, Il ritratto veneziano dell’Ottocento, abbiamo appena
accennato, vediamo allora
delle altre.
Per l’arte moderna - quella del
Novecento – spicca la mostra
su Marcel Duchamp. La seduzione
della copia proposta
dalla prestigiosa Collezione
Peggy Guggenheim che ci
presenta una sessantina di
opere realizzate tra il 1911 e il
1968 del celebre artista concettuale,
noto per le provocazioni
delle sue opere che
sconvolgeranno il pensiero
dell’epoca.
Si affianca idealmente Marc
Chagall. Il colore dei sogni
promossa dalla Fondazione
Musei Civici di Venezia.
Aperta presso il Centro Candiani
a Mestre la mostra presenta
alcuni capolavori del
maestro russo del sogno e
della fantasia conservati alla
Galleria di Ca’ Pesaro assieme ad un nucleo di opere di altri noti autori del Novecento,
sempre sul filone tematico dell’artista.
Il Novecento è ancora protagonista, anche se con visioni diverse dalle precedenti,
presso l’Istituto Veneto, con la mostra dedicata a Italico Brass che presenta
una serie di fascinose vedute di vena impressionista dedicate a Venezia.
C’è poi invece, per chi ama l’arte antica, l’importante mostra sulle opere giovanili
di Tiziano presso le Gallerie dell’Accademia (vedi anche a pag.63).
Alla pittura si affianca la fotografia con le mostre Chronorama dagli archivi Condé
Nast, di recente acquisiti dalla Fondazione Pinault, a Palazzo Grassi; L’Orizzonte
degli eventi con 300 scatti di Paolo Pellegrin vincitore di ben 11 edizioni
del prestigioso World Press Photo Award, presentata da Le stanze della Fotografia,
a San Giorgio e Ripensare il Paesaggio vs ripensare l’Identità rivolta alla
fotografia emergente europea, a Palazzo Fortuny.
Tra le principali esposizioni ricordiamo ancora Icone, opere contemporanee dalla
Collezione Pinault a Punta della Dogana; Everybody Talks about the Weather
presentata dalla Fondazione Prada a Ca’ Corner della Regina, inedito progetto
di ricerca tra arti visive e tempo meteorologico; Vetro boemo: i grandi maestri,
opere di sei artisti boemi pionieri della scultura contemporanea, alle Stanze del
Vetro, presso l’isola di San Giorgio; A World of Potential con la coinvolgente installazione
di Arthur Duff, dedicata alla potenzialità dell’essere umano presso gli
spazi delle Procuratie Vecchie e infine, sull’opera dell’innovativo architetto giapponese
Kengo Kuma a Palazzo Franchetti.

La Musica e il Teatro
Per la pagina dello spettacolo l’attenzione cade sull’apertura della Stagione del
Teatro La Fenice. Presentata con 13 titoli d’opera, uno di balletto e 19 appuntamenti
sinfonici, prenderà il via il 24 novembre con la prima dell’opera Les Contes
d’Hoffmann di Jacques Offenbach.
Ancora in calendario del mese per la stagione de La Fenice, ma ospitate al Teatro
Malibran, segnaliamo due serate speciali dedicate al balletto per il ciclo Venezia
in Danza 2023: "Giselle e altre storie" con i solisti del GaertnerPlatz Theater di Monaco,
rappresentazione in esclusiva europea, e "Io Maria, Lei Callas" dedicata alla
grande soprano nel centenario
della nascita, con la Compagnia
Tocnadanza di Venezia.
Sempre per gli appassionati
di Musica ricordiamo il Festival
Luigi Nono, giunto alla sua
sesta edizione: a partire dal 7
novembre la manifestazione
festeggerà i 30 anni della Fondazione
Archivio Luigi Nono
dedicata al noto compositore
e scrittore veneziano del Novecento.
Il Festival che si svolgerà
con vari incontri durante tutto il
mese sarà intitolato ASCOLTA.
Tra i concerti infine segnaliamo
per la Fondazione Giorgio Cini il
ciclo Musica a San Giorgio, presso il suggestivo Auditorium “lo Squero” affacciato
sulla laguna, con tre serate presentate da Asolo Musica.
Per la prosa, l’attenzione cade invece sul Teatro Stabile Carlo Goldoni che da poco
ha festeggiato i suoi 400 anni di attività (1622-2022).
La sua nuova Stagione ripartirà da questo mese con Aspettando re Lear per la
regia di Alessandro Preziosi, primo di sei spettacoli d’ispirazione classica che comporranno
il cartellone 2023-24.
Seguirà un titolo che contraddistingue la seconda linea d’indirizzo del Teatro che
darà spazio e voce alle “Parole del presente” con testi scritti e diretti da artisti contemporanei:
aprirà la scena Lucia Calamaro, tra le più talentuose drammaturghe
presenti sulla scena nazionale.
Sulla stessa linea si inserisce anche Boomers, l’ultimo testo di Marco Paolini, incentrato,
tra realtà e immaginazione, sulla generazione più anziana.
Le Tradizioni
Il mese di novembre annovera uno dei riti più cari ai veneziani: la Festa della Madonna
della Salute. Il 21 novembre, da quasi quattro secoli, Venezia celebra un
evento che ha segnato la sua storia: la fine della peste avvenuta nel 1631 grazie
ad una invocazione fatta alla Vergine Maria, dal Doge e dal popolo, un anno prima.
Una chiesa e una Madonna, raffigurata in un antico dipinto arrivato da Candia (attuale
Creta), sono i simboli di quella che ancor oggi l’intera città onora con un pellegrinaggio
e un rito senza tempo, quello dell’accensione di un cero alla Vergine,
quale ringraziamento e richiesta di protezione.
Nell’occasione, sarà allestito qualche giorno prima un ponte flottante che faciliterà
l’accesso dalla zona di San Marco. Si potrà assistere alla messa solenne, visitare
la secentesca basilica per ammirare la celebre “Madonna Nera” e le straordinarie
opere; fare un giro tra gli affollati banchetti della zona o una passeggiata nei dintorni
verso la suggestiva Punta della Dogana e la riva delle Zattere e ancora, assaggiare,
in qualche trattoria del luogo, il piatto tipico del momento, la “castradina”. D.R.

Charm and attractions of a Venetian November
With the autumn everything appears to slow down, offering a semblance of peace and tranquillity,
which sensations are unfortunately increasingly rare to find nowadays.
Venice seems to immerse itself even more in its natural element, the water it was born from. The
first lagoon mists and the faint evening lights almost make it retreat in time.
It is time to experience the city at its fullest through the emotions it raises, but also through all that
it offers with its museums, its churches, its theatres... its events.
Here then, we follow up with some hints as usual, on an offer leaving no doubts as to quality and appeal.
We are beginning as we frequently do, with La Biennale, the Venetian cultural institution par excellence,
known worldwide for an output promoting contemporary world trends in Arts and Culture for
over a century.
The International Architecture Exhibition
In addition to its undoubted intrinsic value, its final opening month should be pointed out: in fact its
18th edition will ultimately close its doors on 26 November.
Promoted by The Venice Biennale, this maxi-showcase is developed along a vast circuit through its
thematic exhibition, divided between the central pavilion in the Giardini, the huge Arsenal complex
and some venues on the mainland.
The laboratory of the future, the title assigned by its curator Lesley Lokko, is presented as a vision
about the world’s near future and the relationship between mankind and the environment, starting
from the continent which more than any other one is undergoing an epochal change, Africa.
As customary, the exhibition includes national Participations (63 this year), with individual exhibitions
set up within the Pavilions at the Giardini and at the Arsenal, as well as in the historic centre.
They are flanked by a series of collateral exhibitions.
The Art Exhibitions
In this case too, the scenario is extremely vast, and enriched during this month by certain recent
novelties. We have just mentioned the first exhibition, The Nineteenth-century Venetian portrait,
let us check the rest.
For modern art - the Twentieth century’s - the Marcel Duchamp. The lure of the copy exhibition,
proposed by the prestigious Peggy Guggenheim Collection, stands out, presenting around sixty
works created between 1911 and 1968 by the famous conceptual artist, known for the provocations
inherent within his artworks, which shocked the thought of his time.
It is ideally flanked by Marc Chagall, The colour of dreams, promoted by the Venice City Museums
Foundation, open at the Candiani Centre in Mestre: the exhibition features some masterpieces by
the Russian master of dreams and imagination held by the Ca’ Pesaro Gallery, together with a nucleus
of artworks by other well-known Twentieth century painters, always along the artist’s theme.
The Twentieth century is a protagonist yet again, even though with differing views from the former
ones, at the Veneto Institute, with the exhibition dedicated to Italico Brass, presenting a series of
fascinating impressionist vistas of Venice. Moreover, for ancient art lovers, there is the important
exhibition on Titian’s early works at the Galleries of the Accademia (see page 65).
Painting is flanked by photography, with the exhibitions Chronorama from the Condé Nast archives,
recently acquired by the Pinault Foundation, at Palazzo Grassi; The Horizon of Events featuring
300 shots by Paolo Pellegrin, the winner of a good 11 editions of the prestigious World Press Photo
Award, presented by The Rooms of Photography, at San Giorgio, and Rethinking Landscape vs
Identity on emerging European photography at Palazzo Fortuny.
Amongst the main exhibitions, we may also recall Icons, contemporary works from the Pinault Collection
at Punta della Dogana; Everybody Talks about the Weather, presented by the Prada Foundation
at Ca’ Corner della Regina, a novel research project featuring visual arts and the weather;
Bohemian Glass: the great masters, featuring works by six pioneering Bohemian artists in contemporary
sculpture, at the Rooms of Glass on the island of San Giorgio; A World of Potential, with
Arthur Duff’s engaging installation dedicated to the potential of the human being at the Old Procuratie
venues, and finally, on Japanese architect Kengo Kuma’s innovative work at Palazzo Franchetti.

Music and the Theatre
For the entertainment page, the focus is on the opening of La Fenice Theatre Season.
Featuring 13 opera titles, one ballet and 19 symphonic events, it will start on 24 November
with the premiere of Les Contes d’Hoffmann opera by Jacques Offenbach.
Also on this month’s calendar for La Fenice season, but hosted at the Malibran Theatre,
may we point out two special evenings dedicated to ballet, for the 2023 Venezia
in Danza cycle: Giselle and other stories with the étoiles from the GaertnerPlatz
Theater in Munich, an exclusive European premiere, and I Maria, She Callas dedicated
to the great soprano on her birth centenary, with the Venice Tocnadanza Company.
Also for music lovers, we may recall the Luigi Nono Festival, now reaching its sixth
edition: beginning from 7 November; the event will celebrate 30 years of the Luigi
Nono Archive Foundation, dedicated to this well-known Venetian composer and
writer of the Twentieth century. The Festival, which will take place with various
meetings throughout the month, will be titled LISTEN.
Finally, amongst concerts, for the Giorgio Cini Foundation we may point out the Music
at San Giorgio cycle at the suggestive “lo Squero” Auditorium overlooking the
lagoon, with three evenings presented by Asolo Musica.
For prose, the focus is instead on the Carlo Goldoni Resident Theatre, which recently
celebrated its 400 years of activity (1622-2022). Its latest Season is resuming
this month, with Waiting for king Lear directed by Alessandro Preziosi, the first of
six classically inspired shows which will make up the 2023-24 billboard.
The following title will characterise the Theatre’s second trend-thread, giving space
and voice to “Words of the present”, with texts written and directed by contemporary
artists.
The stage will be opened by Lucia Calamaro, among the most talented playwrights
on the national scene. Boomers, the most recent play by Marco Paolini, also fits the
same thread, focusing on the older generation, between reality and imagination.
Traditions
It has always distinguished this month in Venice: it is the Fête of the Madonna della
Salute or of Health.
On 21 November, for almost four centuries, the city has been celebrating the end
of the plague that occurred in 1631 thanks to the intercession of the Virgin Mary,
invoked by the Doge and the people a year earlier.
A church and a Madonna, depicted in an ancient painting arrived from Candia (present-day
Crete), are the symbols of what, even now, the whole city honours with a
pilgrimage and a timeless rite: lighting a candle to the Virgin, as a thanksgiving and
request for protection.

will be set up to facilitate
access from the St

the solemn mass, visit the
seventeenth-century basilica
to admire the famous “Black
Madonna” and the extraordinary
works; stroll among
the crowded stands of the
surrounding area or have a
walk around the picturesque
Punta della Dogana and the
Zattere Quay, and also taste
the typical dish of the moment,
the “castradina”.

al Teatro La Fenice
in una nuova messinscena con
la regia di Damiano Michieletto
e con la direzione musicale
di Antonello Manacorda che
dirigerà l'Orchestra e Coro del
Teatro La Fenice.
L'opera fantastica in un prologo,
tre atti e un epilogo su libretto di
Jules Barbier fu composta da Offenbach
nel 1880 e rappresentata
nel febbraio dell'anno successivo
all'Opéra-Comique di Parigi.
La prima di venerdì 24 novembre
sarà trasmessa a partire dalle
18:00 in diretta su Rai Radio3.

the 2023-2024 Opera and
Ballet Season of La Fenice Theatre
Foundation in Venice.
This title, which has been missing
from the Fenice billboard since 1994,
will be performed at La Fenice Theatre
with a new stage-set directed
by Damiano Michieletto, and Antonello
Manacorda conducting the music
performed by La Fenice Theatre
Orchestra and Chorus.
This opéra fantastique in one prologue,
three acts and an epilogue
with a libretto by Jules Barbier, was
composed by Offenbach in 1880 and
performed in the February of the following
year at the Opéra-Comique in

Doge’s Apartment is returning as a
part of the Ducal Palace exhibition
circuit. The showcase recounts the
history of the 120 Doges who ruled
the city, with paintings, sculptures
and documents illustrating the
Doge’s figure and his importance

itinerary ends with the abdication
of the last Doge, Ludovico Manin in
1797, which marked the end of the
Republic.

• MARCEL DUCHAMP. La seduzione della copia.
Prendendo spunto dall'opera "Scatola in una valigia"
capolavoro oggi in parte conservato dalla
Collezione Peggy Guggenheim, questa mostra
presenta, grazie ad importanti prestiti provenienti
da musei e collezioni private, il grande artista del
N0vecento precursore dell'arte concettuale
L’esposizione a cura di Paul B. Franklin, presenta
una sessantina di opere realizzate tra il 1911 e il
1968 conservate oltre che dalla collezione veneziana,
da prestigiose istituzioni museali italiane e
statunitensi e dalla collezione veneziana di Attilio
Codognato. Si affianca una serie di lavori meno
noti al grande pubblico appartenenti all’ “Estate”
dell’artista nonché a collezioni private.
La mostra è visibile presso gli Spazi espositivi
della Collezione Peggy Guggenheim fino al 18

• TIZIANO 1508.
Agli esordi di una luminosa carriera.
Presentata dalle Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia
e inserita nel percorso del museo, questa
mostra indaga gli esordi del giovane Tiziano prendendo
in considerazione tre opere fondamentali
realizzate nel 1508. In tutto l’esposizione propone
17 opere autografe dell'artista e una decina di
confronti con dipinti, incisioni e disegni di autori a
lui contemporanei, tra i quali Giorgione, Sebastiano
del Piombo, Dürer e Francesco Vecellio.
Alla mostra si affiancano, esposti nel percorso museale,
i capolavori della maturità dell’artista, opere
fondamentali della sua vasta produzione: San Giovanni
Battista; Madonna con il bambino e la Pietà.

• ITALICO BRASS _ Il Pittore di Venezia.
E’ la prima grande mostra che Venezia dedica a
quest’artista, per molti anni dimenticato, un tempo
acclamato protagonista del panorama artistico
internazionale dei primi decenni del Novecento.
Promossa dall’Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere
ed Arti di Venezia e qui allestita, la mostra
si presenta come un ideale, fascinoso percorso
attraverso una Venezia del Novecento, non quella
monumentale che molti conoscono, ma quella
cosiddetta minore, fatta di feste, riti ed eventi
dove l’artista riesce a cogliere, con tipica vena impressionista,
un popolo senza distinzioni di classi.

The Lure of the Copy.
Inspired by the "Box in a Suitcase" artwork, a masterpiece
now preserved partly by the Peggy Guggenheim
Collection, the exhibition is presenting
this great Twentieth century artist, a forerunner
of conceptual art.
The exhibition, by curator Paul B. Franklin, is presenting
about sixty artworks created between
1911 and 1968, held by this Venetian collection
as well as by prestigious Italian and American
museum institutions, and by the Venetian collection
of Attilio Codognato. It is accompanied by a
series of less known works to the general public,
belonging to the artist's "Estate" as well as private
collections. The exhibition will be visible to
the public until 18 March 2024.

• TITIAN 1508.
At the beginning of a luminous career.
Presented by the Galleries of the Accademia in
Venice and included within the museum itinerary,
this exhibition investigates the young Titian's
early days by considering three seminal artworks
created in 1508. In total, the exhibition is offering
17 autograph works by Titian and around
ten comparisons with paintings, engravings and
drawings by his contemporary painters, including
Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo, Dürer and
Francesco Vecellio.
The exhibition is accompanied the masterpieces
of the artist's maturity on display throughout the
museum, fundamental works within his vast production:
Saint John the Baptist; Madonna with
Child, and the Pietà. The exhibition will remain
visible until 3 December.

• IL RITRATTO VENEZIANO DELL'OTTOCENTO
Allestita al secondo piano, negli spazi espositivi
della prestigiosa Galleria Internazionale di Arte
Moderna di Ca’Pesaro, questa mostra intende
ripercorrere la traccia dell’importante esposizione
avvenuta nel 1923 ideata da Nino Barbantini,
allora primo direttore del Museo. Rivolta al ritratto
ottocentesco, la rassegna segnerà la riscoperta
dell’arte veneziana di un intero secolo.
L’attuale esposizione rappresenta un’occasione
unica per ricostruire quell'evento e per poter ammirare,
di nuovo riuniti, i volti di numerosi protagonisti
della società, dell’arte, della cultura, della
vita, di un territorio che dal capoluogo veneto si
estende fino al Friuli Venezia Giulia.

• L’ORIZZONTE DEGLI EVENTI di Paolo Pellegrin.
Allestita nel nuovo Centro espositivo delle Stanze
della Fotografia, nato per un'iniziativa congiunta
tra Marsilio Arte e Fondazione Giorgio Cini, questa
mostra presenta oltre 300 scatti del noto fotografo
romano impegnato attraverso i suoi reportage a
documentare i principali eventi del nostro tempo.
Considerato tra i maggiori fotografi italiani viventi,
membro dell’agenzia Magnum dal 2005, si è affermato
come vincitore di undici edizioni del World
Press Photo Award.
Si affianca, allestita al primo piano, la mostra
TAROCCHI di Pino Settanni, noto come “pittore
con la macchina fotografica”:
La mostra si compone di 78 fotografie che esprimono
la poetica artistica del fotografo, attraverso
il ritratto, la teatralità della scena e il colore.
Entrambe le esposizioni, curate da Denis Curti
e Annalisa D’Angelo, resteranno visibili fino al 7
gennaio 2024.

• THE VENETIAN PORTRAIT
IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY.
Set up on the second floor at the Ca' Pesaro
International Modern Art Gallery prestigious
exhibition venues, this exhibition intends to retrace
the important exhibition which took place
in 1923, conceived by Nino Barbantini, at the
time the first director of the Museum, addressing
Nineteenth-century portraits, a showcase that
would highlight the rediscovery of Venetian art
for an entire century.
The current exhibition shall be a unique opportunity
for reconstructing that showcase, and for
admiring the newly reunited visages of several
protagonists of society, of art, of culture and of
life within a territory extending from the Veneto
capital to Friuli Venezia Giulia.

• ITALICO BRASS_The Painter of Venice.
It is the first major exhibition dedicated by Venice
to this artist, forgotten for many years, once an
acclaimed protagonist of the international artistic
scene in the early decades of the Twentieth C.
Promoted by the Veneto Institute of Sciences,
Letters and Arts in Venice and here displayed,
the exhibition features an ideal, fascinating
journey through Twentieth-century Venice, not
the monumental one known by many, but the
so-called minor one, made of festivals, rites and
events in which the artist is able to capture its
population without distinctions in class, with his
typical impressionist flair. The exhibition will be
visible until 12 December 2023.

• THE HORIZON OF EVENTS by Paolo Pellegrin.
Set up in the new Rooms of Photography showcase
centre, a joint initiative by Marsilio Arte and
the Giorgio Cini Foundation, this exhibition presents
over 300 shots by the well-known Roman
photographer, engaged in documenting the main
events of our time through his reportages.
Considered one of the major living Italian photographers,
a member of the Magnum agency since
2005, he has established himself as the winner of
eleven editions of the World Press Photo Award.
It is flanked by the TAROTS exhibition, set up on
the first floor, by Pino Settanni, known as the
"painter with the camera": 78 photos expressing
this photographer's artistic poetics through portraits,
stage theatrics and colour.
The exhibitions, by curators Denis Curti and Annalisa
D’Angelo, will remain visible until 7.1.2024.

questa mostra interattiva curata da Orna
Cohen, si presenta come un viaggio esperienziale

di esperienze che aumenta la propria auto-consapevolezza
e al tempo stesso la
percezione del mondo.
Si inserisce nel percorso la nuova coinvolgente
installazione di Arthur Duff, “The Hungriest Eye.
The blossoming of Potential”, un nuovo spazio
collaborativo dove i visitatori potranno partecipare
alla creazione di un’opera d’arte, espressione

• VETRO BOEMO: i grandi maestri.
Prosegue con un'mportante rassegna a Le Stanze
del Vetro il progetto culturale pluriennale pensato

Museo di Arti Decorative di Praga, presenta sei
grandi maestri della scultura contemporanea in
vetro raccontando l'evoluzione, dopo la seconda

a un utilizzo per la realizzazione di importanti
sculture astratte.

• JULIO LARRAZ. The Allegory of Dream.
Torna in Italia con una importante esposizione
presso la Galleria Contini Arte il noto artista cubano,
autore geniale e poliedrico in grado di affrontare
tematiche diverse, tutte accomunate da
un linguaggio onirico e surreale, ma sempre legato
a temi di attualità.
Il percorso, a carattere retrospettivo, mira attraverso
un’accurata selezione di olii su tela, disegni
ed acquerelli realizzati dagli anni ’80 ad oggi,
a celebrare la carriera dell’artista attraverso una
serie di capolavori ispirati al surrealismo ed alla

• A WORLD OF POTENTIAL
Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,
the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, a
foundation created by the Generali group with
the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable
persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,
is presented as an experiential journey in which
visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences
which increase their self-awareness and the
perception of the world at the same time.
In the final part, visitors will be able to gather
information about the foundation’s activity and
to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the
programmes (freely chosen) managed by the
Foundation itself.
Arthur Duff’s new installation “The Hungriest
Eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the
circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors
can take part in the creation of an artwork,
expressing their potential.

• BOHEMIAN GLASS: the great masters.
The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important
exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a
long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art
and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration
with the Prague Museum of Decorative
Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary
glass sculpture, recounting the evolution
of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:
from its traditional categorisation under applied
and decorative art, to its employment in the creation
of important abstract sculptures.
Twenty photographs by Josef Sudek from the
Glass Labyrinths series complete the circuit.

Dialoghi contemporanei.
Un artista, un museo, una collezione.
Questa mostra, promossa dalla Fondazione Bevilacqua
La Masa e concepita per gli spazi della
Galleria di Piazza San Marco, presenta l’opera del
maestro piemontese del Novecento (1917-2004)
ponendola in dialogo con quella di giovani artisti
che esprimono, attraverso le loro opere, sensibilità
simili e parallele.
L’esposizione sviluppata in sei sezioni e visibile
fino al 12 novembre, anticipa i prossimi festeggiamenti
per i 10 anni dell’apertura del MEF (Museo

Nella sede veneziana di Ca’ Corner della Regina
la Fondazione Prada presenta questo inedito progetto
di ricerca ideato dal curatore Dieter Roelstraete:
una sorta di esplorazione sui significati del
tempo meteorologico nel mondo dell’arte visiva,
ideale premessa per affrontare l’emergenza climatica
in corso.
Il percorso della mostra si compone di una cinquantina
di opere di artisti contemporanei e una
selezione complementare di lavori storici completati
da una serie di approfondimenti scientifici.

Tesori fotografici del 20° Secolo.
Allestita negli spazi di Palazzo Grassi questa mostra
presenta in prima mondiale una serie di opere
fotografiche provenienti dagli archivi di Condé
Nast, in parte recentemente acquisiti dalla Pinault
Collection. Si tratta di oltre quattrocento immagini
realizzate da 150 artisti di rilievo internazionale
che percorrono in un emozionante percorso
eventi, fenomeni sociali e personalità illustri che
hanno attraversato il XX secolo, dagli anni Dieci
fino agli albori degli anni Ottanta.
Al nucleo di immagini storiche si affianca in un
ideale dialogo “Chronorama Redux”, un progetto
che propone uno sguardo contemporaneo sulle
opere di “Chronorama” attraverso i lavori di quattro
artisti: Tarrah Krajnak, Eric N. Mack, Giulia Andreani
e Daniel Spivakov.

The Allegory of Dream
This well-known Cuban artist, an inventive and
multifaceted author capable of dealing with
diverse themes, all having a dreamlike, surreal
language in common, but always connected to
topical issues, is back in Italy with an important
exhibition at the Contini Arte Gallery.
The circuit, a retrospective one, aims to celebrate
the artist's career through an accurate selection
of oils on canvas, drawings and watercolours
created from the Eighties to our day, through a
series of masterpieces inspired by surrealism and
metaphysics.

An artist, a museum, a collection.
This exhibition, promoted by the Bevilacqua La
Masa Foundation and conceived for the venues
of its Saint Mark Gallery, presents the opus by
this Piedmontese master of the Twentieth century
(1917-2004) in a dialogue with young artists,
who express similar and parallel sensibilities,
through their own artworks.
The exhibition, developed over six sections, and
visible until 12 November, will herald the upcoming
celebrations for the 10th anniversary
from the opening of MEF (Ettore Fico Museum)
in Turin.

Located within the venues of Palazzo Grassi,
this exhibition presents a series of photography
works in world premiere from the Condé Nast
archives, partly acquired recently by the Pinault
Collection.
It features over four hundred pictures created

tracing an exciting path through events, social
phenomena and celebrities spanning the 20th
century, from the 1910s up to the early 1980s.
This nucleus of historical pictures is accompanied

• ROSALBA CARRIERA. Miniature su avorio.
E’ stata definita come l’artista italiana più celebre
nell’Europa del Settecento. Oggi, la Fondazione
Musei Civici di Venezia, nella splendida spazi di
Ca’Rezzonico, sede del Museo del Settecento
Veneziano presenta quest’artista con una retrospettiva
di 36 opere, accompagnate da pastelli,
documenti, disegni, stampe, provenienti da propri
archivi e da altre istituzioni e collezioni private.
Si tratta di un’opportunità quanto mai rara, proprio
nell’anno in cui ricorrono i 350 dalla nascita
dell’artista, per ammirare una raccolta considerata
tra i classici dell’arte del Rococò.

Clima e persone.
Promossa e allestita quale progetto espositivo
dalla sede di EMERGENCY di Venezia (Giudecca

ambasciatore del clima, Simone Padovani questa
mostra visualizza attraverso fotografie, mappe,
info-grafiche e un’installazione, i cambiamenti
climatici e i suoi effetti sugli spostamenti delle
persone.
In esame quindici Paesi, tra cui l’Italia, dove EMER-
GENCY opera o da cui molte persone si muovono
per raggiungere l’Europa, anche a causa di fenomeni
ambientali estremi.

She has been defined as the most famous Italian
female artist in Eighteenth-century Europe.
Today the Venice City Museums Foundation is
presenting this artist with a retrospective featuring
36 artworks at the splendid venue of Ca’
Rezzonico Venetian Eighteenth-century Museum,
accompanied by pastels, documents, drawings
and prints, from its own archives and from
other institutions and private collections. This is
an extremely rare opportunity, in the actual year
of occurrence of the artist's 350th birth anniversary,
to admire a collection deemed among the

Climate and people.
Promoted and set up as an exhibition project by
the Venice EMERGENCY office (Giudecca 212)
with the collaboration of photojournalist and
climate ambassador Simone Padovani, this exhibition
illustrates climate change and its effects
on people's movements through photographs,
maps, info-graphics and an installation.
Fifteen countries are under scrutiny, including
Italy, countries where EMERGENCY operates or
from where many people move to reach Europe,
also due to extreme environmental phenomena.

In occasione del mese della fotografia europea
- la rete dei festival fotografici con eventi a Berlino,
Bruxelles, Lisbona, Lussemburgo, Parigi,
Vienna - Venezia presenta questa mostra realizzata
grazie a OFF - Oculus Foto Festival, rivolta
alla fotografia di 11 artisti emergenti provenienti
da tutta Europa.
Sono giovani autori chiamati a indagare temi attuali
come le relazioni tra l’uomo e l’ambiente, che
intendono offrire nuove prospettive relativamente
alla rappresentazione della natura e del paesaggio,
tra decostruzione ed esplorazione artistica.
La opere, selezionate dalle precedenti edizioni di
EMOP, saranno esposte fino al 15 gennaio 2024
tra il museo di Palazzo Fortuny e la sede della

In occasione di Biennale Architettura la Fondazione
Giorgio Cini racconta in questa mostra l’opera

• RETHINKING THE LANDSCAPE
vs RETHINKING IDENTITY
For the occasion of the European month of photography
- the photography festivals network
with events in Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon, Luxembourg,
Paris and Vienna - Venice is presenting
this exhibition created thanks to OFF - Oculus
Foto Festival, addressing photography by 11
emerging artists from all over Europe.
They are young authors called to investigate topical
themes, such as the relationships between
mankind and the environment, who intend to offer
new perspectives regarding the depiction of
nature and the landscape, between deconstruction
and artistic exploration.

Onomatopeia Architecture.
In concomitanza con Biennale Architettura a Palazzo
Franchetti si presenta questa originale retrospettiva
rivolta ad una tematica unica dell’innovativo
architetto giapponese: l’onomatopea, cioè
l’atto di creare o usare parole che includono suoni
simili ai rumori ai quali si riferiscono.
Attraverso l’esposizione di alcune maquette dei
suoi edifici più celebri, espressione della sua idea
di architettura sostenibile, i visitatori saranno incoraggiati
a scoprire i suoni dei diversi materiali.

umana e l'atipico viaggio di Manucci attraverso
tutto il suo lascito.

Onomatopoeia Architecture.
Concurrently with the Architecture Biennale,
this original retrospective is being presented at
Palazzo Franchetti, addressing a unique theme

including sounds similar to noises they refer to.
Visitors shall be encouraged to discover the
sounds of various materials through the display
of some models of his most famous buildings,

A Venetian at the Mughal court in the 17th C.
The Golden Tree Foundation presents an important
exhibition project at its headquarters
in Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, recounting Manucci’s
human adventure and atypical journey,
through his whole bequest.
This exhibition gathers his entire legacy for the
first time, consisting not only of the Red Book
and the Black Book, but also of two precious

Architectures for the stage
For the occasion of the Architecture Biennale,
in this exhibition the Giorgio Cini Foundation is
illustrating the opus and the vision of architect,
designer and scenographer Luciano Baldessari,
an eclectic, free figure whose life and career as
a bold, anti-conformist experimenter crossed historic
1900s Avantgardes between Europe and the
United States. A corpus of drawings and projects,
enhanced by a singular layout, will be displayed
next to the Luminator lamp-dummy within the
Manica Lunga areas until 26 November.

• Everybody Talks About the Weather.
The Prada Foundation is presenting this novel
research project conceived by curator Dieter
Roelstraete at its Venetian headquarters of Ca’
Corner della Regina, a sort of exploration on
weather significance in the world of visual art,
as an ideal basis for facing the ongoing climate
emergency.
The exhibition circuit consists of around fifty artworks
by contemporary artists and a complementary
selection of historical works, rounded off by
a series of scientific insights.

Il colore dei sogni.
Sviluppata attraverso le raccolte
della Galleria Internazionale d’Arte
Moderna di Ca' Pesaro e promossa
dai Musei Civici di Venezia presso la
sede espositiva del Centro Candiani
di Mestre, questa mostra si accentra
sull’opera del maestro russo del Novecento
straordinario interprete della
pittura del sogno e della fantasia.
Il percorso espositivo si snoda attraverso le opere
dell’artista e di alcuni fondamentali autori del secolo
in sei sezioni che dal sogno simbolista, giungono
all’ideale messaggio dell’artista, improntato
sulla fantasia, illogica, istintiva e gioiosa.
Tra le opere esposte (fino al 13.02.2024) “Il Rabbino”
di Ca’ Pesaro per la prima volta affiancato a
“Vitebsk. Scena di villaggio” conservato alla collezione

Ritorna per la quarta edizione la collettiva dedicata
agli artisti under 35 vincitori del Concorso

Biennale Architettura.
Alle categorie Design del vetro, Fotografia, Pittura
e Street Art, si è aggiunta quest’anno la nuova

International Gallery of Modern Art and promoted
by the Venice City Museums at the showcase
venue of the Candiani Centre in Mestre, the
exhibition focuses on the artwork of this Twentieth-century
Russian master, an outstanding interpreter
of painting on dreams and imagination.
The exhibit circuit winds among the artist's works
and some seminal authors of the century through
six sections, starting from the symbolist dream
and reaching the artist's ideal message, based on

At the exhibition venues of the Mestre M9 museum,
an important exhibition dedicated to this
Venetian master of the informal is presenting
130 artworks, between installations and wall canvases,

through some of the artist's seminal
works, as a novel journey choosing contemporary
art as a tool for exploring and interpreting the

Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici
di Venezia nota con l’acronimo
MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre
700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio
culturale della città.
Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico
sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso
importanti mostre d’arte.
Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,
di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…
L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo

like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes
within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral
part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its
centuries of history.
But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract
one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how

City Museums
Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation
known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of
the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.
Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by
MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.
They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…
Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the

State Museums
Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these
museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional
Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system
featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the
Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery
in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the
Brenta Riviera.
Other museums
This section lists privately-managed museums or
ones run by individual Foundations. We may here
mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection;
the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.
Churches, Devotion Schools
and religious museums
Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient
town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.
Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint
Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental
basilicas of the Frari and of Saints Giovanni & Paolo;
the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the
Carmini, San Giorgio dei Greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish
and the Hellenic ones among the museums.
Museums and Villas on the territory
The Museums spread over the Venetian hinterland
territory are many, and important. In addition there
are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid
architecture, art and landscape. As with the museums, this
scenario is also quite vast. We are (unfortunately) mentioning

Le Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia propongono
sino al 3 dicembre 2023 opere giovanili di Tiziano
riscoperte grazie a nuove ricerche, indagini
scientifiche e restauri.
Il percorso di visita a cura di Roberta Battaglia, Sarah
Ferrari e Antonio Mazzotta propone 17 opere
autografe di Tiziano e una decina di confronti con
dipinti, incisioni e disegni di autori a lui contemporanei
come Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo,
Dürer e Francesco Vecellio.
Il 1508 è un anno di svolta per il giovane Tiziano
che spronato dalla lezione dei grandi maestri:
Bellini, Giorgione, il soggiorno in città di Dürer dal
1505 al 1507 e la diffusione di riproduzioni di opere
michelangiolesche, riesce ad affermarsi come
protagonista indiscusso della scena artistica sino
al 1576 anno della sua morte.
La mostra indaga gli esordi del giovane Tiziano
prendendo in considerazione tre opere fondamentali
realizzate nel 1508: l’Arcangelo Raffaele
e Tobia delle Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia,
la xilografia raffigurante Il Trionfo di Cristo della
Bibliothèque Nationale de France e la grande impresa
decorativa esterna ad affresco del Fondaco
dei Tedeschi realizzata nel 1508 di cui rimangono
solo alcuni frammenti.
Consigliamo la visita delle sale espositive della
mostra permanente per ammirare numerosi capolavori
del maestro cadorino, opere fondamentali

Titian 1508.
The Year Titian Became Titian.
The Accademia Gallery of Venice presents until
3rd December 2023 works by the young Titian
uncovered from recent research, scientific studies
and restorations. Curated by Roberta Battaglia,
Sarah Ferrari and Antonio Mazzotta the
exhibition has 17 signed works by Titian plus ten
painting, engraving and drawings of his contemporaries
such as Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo,
Albrecht Dürer and Francesco Vecellio.
1508 is a key year. The Great Masters of the art
world were Bellini and Giorgione whilst Albercht
Dürer had been resident in Venice from 1505 - 1507 and many
engravings that reproduced works in the style or by Michelangelo
reached Venice, they were influencing the new style.
This exhibition investigates these new beginning with the
young Titian asserting himself on the art world through 3
key works made in 1508: The Archangel Raphael and Tobias
(Accademia Gallery, Venice); a woodcut depicting The
Triumph of Christ (Bibliothèque Nationale de France); and
the large fresco on the façade of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi
painted in 1508 of which only fragments remain.
The permanent collection of the Accademia Galleries gives
an unrivalled insight into the principal works of Venetian
painting from C14th – C18th including many of the most
important works in the artistic evolution of Titian – two of
his principal works: The Presentation of Mary at the Temple
(1534-38) in its original setting at the Sala dell’Albergo della
Scuola Grande della Carita; and La Pietà (1575-76) which
was to be his last great work - placed in the context of his
artistic contemporaries, his antecedents and the later generations
of artists such as Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese and
Jacopo Bassano.

From being an ancient bakery with its typical Venetian
inn-corner during the Serene Republic golden years, it

A VENEZIA
Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine
di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al
mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.
Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la
terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).
Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della
sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.
La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al
1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.
Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via
terra… sarà una svolta epocale.
Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.
GETTING TO VENICE
Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration
that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.
Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call
everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.
However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration
date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…
it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - Gli accessi via terra
Piazzale Roma
E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia
dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:
il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale
AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche
alle biciclette).
Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno
ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte
della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento
al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano
con la terraferma.
Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi
pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano
Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,
quello di Tessera e di Treviso.
Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega
inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.
L’isola del Tronchetto
Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,
ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei
più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare
posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e
motociclette.
Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi
dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico
Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.
Una linea speciale denominata People Moover
collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico
di Piazzale Roma.
L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di
accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di
Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido
e di Pellestrina.
La Stazione ferroviaria di Santa Lucia
Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta
di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte
della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del
Canal Grande.
Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano
le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:
la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal
Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1
e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).
Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata
con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le
linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali
città italiane ed europee.
TERMINALS - access via LAND
Piazzale Roma
It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two
big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage
and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter
also has an area for bicycles).
This large Square, linked recently to the railway
station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione
Bridge), is currently the hub for urban
and extra-urban connection services with the
mainland.
Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services
arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its
metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra
and Treviso.
A monorail service (People Mover) also connects
Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.
The Tronchetto island
Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,
it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one
of the largest garages in Europe), where almost
4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including
camper vans and motorcycles.
Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops
from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private
lines depart for the heart of the city.
A special train line called People Mover links this
island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just
a few minutes.
The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth
for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service,
linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.
The Santa Lucia railway Station
Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city
at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the
last stretch of the Grand Canal.
Here are the boat stops from where the main
ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1
(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and
the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)
for the northern lagoon and Murano.
All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main
Italian and European cities arrive at this station,
recently modernised and enlarged with services
and shopping hubs.

Aeroporto Marco Polo - Venezia
Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa
13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto
per numero di passeggeri in Italia.
Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è
oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che
di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici
sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente
dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su
Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti
sul centro città e le isole.
Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una
folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali.
Aeroporto Antonio Canova - Treviso
wNato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto
di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti
che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione
è a tutti gli effetti tra i maggiori aeroporti
della regione Veneto.
Posto a pochi chilometri dalla città di Treviso e circa
a trenta dalla città di Venezia oggi fa da base
ad una delle massime compagnie internazionali
Low Cost. Gestito dalla stessa società dell’aeroporto
veneziano è collegato con la città tramite la
linea Shuttle di Atvo.
Aeroporto Nicelli - Lido

Tra i più suggestivi aeroporti italiani, esempio perfettamente
conservato di architettura degli anni
Trenta, l’aeroporto Nicelli è noto come il più antico
scalo commerciale italiano, e considerato da una
speciale classifica, tra le più belle superfici aeroportuali
al mondo.
La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e
piccoli aerei charter e privati con motori ad elica.
Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile
via acqua con linee private o il servizio ferry-boat
della linea 17 Actv.

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,
about 13 kilometres from town, today
it is the third airport in terms of passenger
numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company
and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a
vast services area, as well as parking and public
transport links both by land and by water, managed
respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service
to Piazzale Roma), and Alilaguna with direct motor-launches
to the city centre and its islands.
Several airlines operate there, with a large network
of national and international flights.
Antonio Canova Airport - Treviso
Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,
thanks to major investments which have recently
expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport
is effectively one of the major airports in the
Veneto region.
Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso
and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it
is a base for one of the leading international Low
Cost companies. Managed by the same company
as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city
by an Atvo Shuttle busline.
Nicelli Airport - Lido of Venice
One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly
preserved example of 1930s architecture,
the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian
commercial airport, and deemed by a special
ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport
areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub
for helicopters and small charter and private
planes with propeller engines.
Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be
reached by water with private taxis or by the
ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

A VENEZIA
Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.
La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte
- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,
non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che
piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.
Nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette.
Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano
da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la
funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli
ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.
Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse
spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PUBBLICO

E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.
La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto
della città, comprese le isole maggiori.
Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di
Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.
Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una
spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del
Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella
di Pellestrina.
Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”
puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via
d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi
a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento
acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo
allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento
acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti
focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale
Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e
di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.
La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro
linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da
un colore.
I biglietti si possono acquistare oltre che online,
presso le biglietterie Alilaguna.

Moving in Venice
The opportunities for getting around and discovering
Venice are many.
A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -
thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.
But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage
and, last but not least, the physical impossibility
of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,
as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to
board a transport vehicle.
There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the
lagoon city… nor bicycles.
Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli
(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)
and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act
as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles
worldwide, which has characterised people’s
transport along the city canals for centuries: the
gondola.
Here are a few notes for those who, having just
arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE
ACTV
It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.
Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including
its major islands.
Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma
terminal to its metropolitan city.
Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to
the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further
on to Pellestrina island.
Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”
transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered
vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand
Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution
and favouring a wave motion reduction at the
same time.

Alilaguna
This company was born as a water-link service
between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in
town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway
terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,
Lido and Murano islands. The navigation
network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),
each marked by a colour.
Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,
as well as online.

Il Traghetto su gondole
Non molti visitatori sanno che al servizio turistico
offerto dalle classiche gondole, si aggiunge il servizio
delle cosiddette gondole “da parada”, cioè
di quel tipo di gondola dedicata a far da spola da
una riva all’altra del Canal Grande.
Antica istituzione, la gondola da traghetto è una
versione “popolare” della gondola oggi usata per
il turismo. Priva di ornamenti e condotta da due
rematori, offre la possibilità - decisamente meno
costosa - di provare l’ebbrezza di un passaggio a
pelo d’acqua lungo la più famosa via d’acqua al
mondo.
Il servizio, reso possibile grazie ad un accordo tra
il Comune di Venezia e l’Associazione gondolieri,
viene svolto tra le due sponde del canale attualmente
da cinque stazi (approdi): Dogana, Santa
Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon, Santa
Sofia.Il costo a tratta è di € 2,00 (o.70 con carta
Imob).
Gondola Ferries
Not many visitors know that in addition to the tourist
service offered by classic gondolas there is the socalled
gondola “da parada” service, that is, a type
of gondola used for shuttling from one Grand Canal
bank to the other.
An ancient tradition, the gondola-ferry is a “downto-earth”
version of the gondolas used nowadays for
tourism. With no decorations and guided by two rowers,
it offers a - much less expensive - opportunity for
experiencing the thrill of passage at water-level over
the most famous waterway in the world.
This service, made possible thanks to an agreement
between the Venice Municipality and the Gondoliers’
Association, is currently carried out between the two
banks of the canal from five stazi (stations): Dogana,
Santa Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon,
Santa Sofia: the cost for one-way is 2.00 € (70 cents
with an Imob card).

Il servizio organizzato da più compagnie, avviene
su motoscafi veloci chiamati “lance” e contraddistinti
da una fascia orizzontale gialla.
Le tariffe sono, secondo regolamento del Comune
di Venezia, uniche per tutte le società, e il
servizio è accessibile presso le stazioni comunali
Taxi, o qualsiasi pontile pubblico o privato chiamando
lo 041.59.64 (RadioTaxi).

Water Taxis
As in all cities, when one has to move from one
part to the next in the shortest possible time, the
best solution is a taxi.
Here too the hubs are the respective stazi (stations)
located in crucial parts in town.
This service, organised by several companies,
takes place on fast motor-boats called “lance”,
marked by a horizontal yellow stripe.
As per Venice Municipality regulations, tariffs are
the same for all companies, and service is accessible
at the municipal Taxi stations, or at any public
or private jetty by calling 041.59.64 (RadioTaxi).
