The Filipino American Symphony Orchestra’s (FASO) kicks off the holiday season on with the “Prelude To Magic” concert on November 11, 2023, 6:00 pm at the First Congressional Church in Los Angeles featuring a multicultural programme and award-winning Filipino-American pop icon Lani Misalucha as a special guest. The concert, which closes out the orchestra’s 15th anniversary season, will feature the breadth and artistic range of FASO with a mix of beloved classics from Mozart, Handel, Filipino national artist Lucio San Pedro, as well as excerpts from iconic movie soundtracks and folk songs.

FASO Musical Direc<strong>to</strong>r & Conduc<strong>to</strong>r<br />
ROBERT “BOB” SHRODER<br />
Award-winning conduc<strong>to</strong>r and musician Robert Shroder is the founding musical<br />
direc<strong>to</strong>r of FASO. He was the former principal flutist of two of Asia's distinguished<br />
musical institutions: the Manila Symphony Orchestra and the Manila Chamber<br />
Orchestra. Upon migrating <strong>to</strong> Los Angeles, he became the founding conduc<strong>to</strong>r of<br />
the Boyle Heights Youth Symphony.<br />
Coming from a distinguished musical lineage, Shroder was first taught by his<br />
grandfather, Augus<strong>to</strong> Samaniego Sr., who was a member of the renowned<br />
Philippine Constabulary Band, the first Filipino band <strong>to</strong> perform at the inauguration<br />
of U.S. President Taft in 1909. He grew up in the musical and his<strong>to</strong>ric <strong>to</strong>wn of Kawit,<br />
Cavite in the Philippines. Shroder first earned acclaim as the grand prize winner of<br />
the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ National Music Competition for Young<br />
Artists in 1982.<br />
A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Music with a major in<br />
Flute and a minor in Chamber Music and Conducting, Shroder studied flute under<br />
Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra principal flutist Enrique Barcelo as well as<br />
chamber music and conducting under composer/conduc<strong>to</strong>r/dean Reynaldo Paguio<br />
and Pambansang Samahan ng mga Banda sa Pilipinas (PASAMBAP) VP Leopoldo<br />
Lopez. He later studied under Manila Symphony Orchestra conduc<strong>to</strong>r Helen<br />
Quach, Deutsche Oper Berlin pianist/conduc<strong>to</strong>r Lorenzo Palomo, and awardwinning<br />
violinist/chamber music conduc<strong>to</strong>r Chris<strong>to</strong>ph Poppen. While in college,<br />
Shroder became the principal flutist of the Philippine Youth Orchestra under the<br />
ba<strong>to</strong>n of conduc<strong>to</strong>r Sergio Esmilla, Jr. He is a lifetime member of the distinguished<br />
Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity.

LANI MISALUCHA<br />
Lani Misalucha is a multi-awarded Filipino recording artist, television show host,<br />
and world-class performer. She broke in<strong>to</strong> the Philippine music scene in 1996,<br />
earning a Record of the Year award for her debut album, "More Than I Should", and<br />
has since released eight albums <strong>to</strong>tal. Her music encompasses the genres of pop,<br />
rock, jazz, soul, rhythm and blues, and operatic arias. She became the first Asian <strong>to</strong><br />
headline in a showroom at the Las Vegas Strip.<br />
Her captive audience grew with each song recorded and every stage conquered:<br />
She had released two Gold albums, played lead in a musical adaptation of The<br />
Ramayana (Rama at Sita), started hosting for television and enjoyed a winning<br />
streak in numerous local music awards. Lani’s soar <strong>to</strong> new artistic heights ultimately<br />
led <strong>to</strong> her distinct identification and recognition by MTV Asia as ‘Asia’s<br />
Nightingale’. In 2011, she became the host of the first mainstream travel and<br />
lifestyle television show featuring Las Vegas, It’s Vegas with Lani. Her popularity in<br />
the area has even led Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman <strong>to</strong> declare December 4th as<br />
Lani Misalucha Day.<br />
Lani’s artistry has truly come full circle. From her serendipi<strong>to</strong>us debut <strong>to</strong> her<br />
recognition as an artist of international caliber, the s<strong>to</strong>ry of Lani’s journey with<br />
music transcends every song, heartfelt and genuine in its delivery of all the best<br />
that is yet <strong>to</strong> come.

LOUIE RAMOS<br />
Louie Ramos, Ph.D., is a strong advocate for young<br />
talent development. He founded and currently leads<br />
FASO's Education & Outreach <strong>Program</strong>, that engages<br />
youth from underserved communities in Southern<br />
California in music workshops and classes for vocal<br />
and instrument instruction, and songwriting. He also<br />
developed the FASO Composition program that<br />
engages emerging <strong>to</strong> established composers. As an<br />
accomplished musician and arranger, he has written<br />
over 60 orchestral arrangements over the past<br />
decade. His works have been performed by various<br />
renowned ensembles.<br />
Louie Ramos is the current Vice President of FASO.<br />
He holds a Ph.D. in computer science with a minor in<br />
music theory and composition from the University of<br />
Southern California, and a professional certificate in arranging and production from Berklee<br />
College of Music. Alongside his musical pursuits, he enjoys a career as a software architect and<br />
music teacher at the Los Angeles Children's Chorus.<br />

BOBBIE SANCHEZ<br />
Bobbie Sanchez is a graduate of California State<br />
University, Fuller<strong>to</strong>n, with a Bachelor of Arts in<br />
Music Education, and Azusa Pacific University, with<br />
a Master of Arts in Education. Teaching and<br />
performing music are her life’s passions.<br />
She has an extensive background in violin playing<br />
and music education. Inspired by the late Professor<br />
Sergio Esmilla, Bobbie had the privilege of studying<br />
with renowned violinists such as Rocky Lee,<br />
Haroutune Bedelian, and Mischa Lefkowitz.<br />
Many of her private students have been active<br />
members of various youth orchestras, such as the<br />
Community Youth Orchestra of Southern California<br />
and the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. As the<br />
Direc<strong>to</strong>r of Youth Strings, she conducts two<br />
ensembles, the Youth String Ensemble and the<br />
FASO Junior Orchestra.
