In a nutshell, what he said (as I<br />
interpreted it) is that maintaining and<br />
conserving our precious and precarious<br />
natural environment is a wise and noble<br />
investment.<br />
But if we are not educating and<br />
immersing our children and<br />
grandchildren in that same love of the<br />
environment, there will be no one to<br />
carry on that work or even to enjoy what<br />
has been left to them. That resonated<br />
with me on both an emotional level and<br />
in a practical way.<br />
And so we give in the belief that young<br />
people should have a chance to get<br />
outside, to put down their electronics, to<br />
connect with the actual place where<br />
they live. Their lives will be better for it<br />
today. And North Carolina will be better<br />
for it tomorrow.<br />
