HOW TO STYLE…

Red Rules

The memo from the autumn catwalks is clear - Barbie pink

has had its turn and now red is the colour of the season.

Wear it loudly, proudly and preferably from head-to-toe.

Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Michael Kors were

just some of the designers leading the great red re-boot

of 2023. Now it’s our turn to have a bit of the fiery action.

The gorgeous claret velvet dress from Hobbs (Product 2), is

right at the top of my wish list for Christmas parties.

Just add statement earrings and sparkly heels and go. But

Back to Basics

Sometimes we want our clothes to whisper chic rather

than shout it. And for those times, you need an arsenal

of beautiful basics in sumptuous neutral shades at your

beck and call. It’s a simple way to elevate the hardestworking,

most versatile pieces in your wardrobe into

something incredible. Every day.

Layer up in cosy camels, taupes, greys and creams for

maximum glamour with minimal effort. A good tip for

looking quietly luxurious? Mix your textures.

Quality basics like these are an essential in

every man’s wardrobe too. Be sure to include

timeless pieces like a camel coat from H&M

(Product 7) over a smart but simple knitted

polo or a cosy cord shirt for a bit more snug

layering and relaxed trousers for an easy

route to fuss-free cool.

Blooms

No matter what you might have heard, florals are never

out of style. It’s simply a question of what mood they’re

in and this season, thanks to the likes of Richard Quinn,

they’re feeling dramatic. Gone is the ditzy summer vibe

in favour of a hint of darkness: giant, unapologetic blooms

in sombre tones, or abstract interpretations of flowers

(which would look so cute toughened up with these

embellished biker boots from Kurt Geiger).

The joy of a floral print is that you can

play up or down any of the colours in

the palette. Let the crimson accents

of this Jigsaw dress (Product 3)

stand out by keeping your boots and

4

blazers neutral black, or draw the eye

to its electric blue with matching

accessories.

My hero piece is this luxe maxi from

Reiss (Product 1), bang on-trend

but still also a timeless investment

in style. There are endless options

in tailoring too. This wonderful satin

jumpsuit from Ted Baker (Product

It’s all a much edgier take on a

traditionally ‘pretty’ trend, but no less

beautiful or wearable.

Check Mate

Nothing says business quite like a smart check print, but this season

is offering up a way to add a punky note to your workday polish. For

him, hardworking pieces include this elegant smoky-toned plaid jacket

from Next (Product 1), which would look great paired with brown

Next trousers (Product 2). Checks are for weekends too and the

humble lumberjack shirt has become a coveted autumn piece (thanks

to designer Bottega Veneta) and is the perfect new partner for his

favourite old jeans.
