budget, the various funds, revenues and<br />
expenditures, special taxing districts, user fees<br />

media with #ElginBudget (make sure your post privacy is set to “public” so we can see it).<br />
The Proposed 2024 Budget is presented to city council in early <strong>Nov</strong>ember, with adoption of the<br />
final budget mid-<strong>Dec</strong>ember.<br />

The City of Elgin and Elgin Sustainability<br />
Commission will be hosting the annual Pumpkin<br />
Smash composting event on <strong>Nov</strong>ember 4 (the first<br />
Saturday after Halloween) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at<br />
the old library parking lot (corner of Grove and<br />
Kimball). Since 2016, Elgin has collected over 28.62<br />
TONS of pumpkins! Help us grow this number —<br />
bring your pumpkins so they can be composted<br />
instead of haunting a landfill.<br />

Letters to Santa<br />
Not sure where to send<br />
your child's letter to<br />
Santa? The City of<br />
Elgin is collecting<br />
your letters and will<br />
send them to the North<br />
Pole for you! Place them<br />
in the drop box outside the main entrance of<br />
the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin between<br />
<strong>Nov</strong>ember 10 and <strong>Dec</strong>ember 15. No postage<br />
necessary! Santa will send a letter back, so be<br />
sure to include a mailing address.<br />
Holly Days Begins on Small Business<br />
Saturday, <strong>Nov</strong>ember 25<br />
Holly Days, presented by the Downtown<br />
Neighborhood Association (DNA), kicks off on<br />
Small Business Saturday and continues<br />
throughout the month of <strong>Dec</strong>ember. This<br />
month-long event includes holiday window<br />
murals created by local artists, the return of<br />
Holiday Cheers, special events, a pop-up<br />

Tree Lighting Ceremony<br />
Residents and visitors are invited to the annual<br />
tree lighting ceremony where Mayor Kaptain,<br />
members of City Council, and Santa turn on<br />
the holiday tree lights.<br />
