Fil Delacruz is an important figure in Philippine art. As a printmaker and painter,
he has made a lasting impact on the visual arts landscape of the country through
his multi-layered, richly detailed style and imagery.
Delacruz continues to draw inspiration from Mother Nature and Mythology for his
subject matter. He creates artworks with a Filipino sensibility that delves into the
spiritual aspect of humanity and depicts women as the universal source of life. His
muses continuously evolve from Indigenous Beauty, to Wood Nymph, Goddess,
Maskara and Diwata – a symbolical vision of the Filipina in her relationship with
the divine, the natural world and our society.
For the exhibition at Gallery C of Conrad Manila, entitled WOMAN | NATURE, the
artist blends the two mediums for which he is widely known and celebrated – as a
painter and printmaker. The exhibit is a collection of artworks done on canvas and
paper, showcasing his vision, mastery in storytelling and the craftmanship of his
work.
In the span of his 50 years career in Art, Delacruz continues to tackle the
symbiotic but sometimes destructive relationship between modern society and
nature. His art, filled with Filipino cultural sensibility and affinity, constantly
ponders the question “What is Filipino Art?” and “What is its place in our everevolving
world?”
