STARGAZING IN FOUNTAIN HILLS:
Attend the annual Fountain Hills Dark Sky
Festival every March. Listen to a fascinating
talk about the night sky, view the student
art contest entries, experience a walk across
the solar system, see live nocturnal animals,
enjoy the food trucks and live music in the
beer garden, look at celestial objects through
telescopes, and watch a laser tour of the night
sky. Free admission.
Attend a Stargazing Event. The Fountain
Hills Dark Sky Association offers a variety
of opportunities throughout the year such as
Observe the Moon Night, the Town’s Party in
the Park, Star Parties in Centennial Circle,
lunar & solar eclipse events, and more. Visit
fhdarksky.com/other-events to find an event.
Enjoy dinner and stargazing at Adero
Scottsdale Resort in Fountain Hills. Telescope
viewing is available on the Four Peaks Lawn
behind the restaurant on most Friday
evenings from October through May. Get
night sky-themed drinks at the Sky Top
Lounge and enjoy the celestial views.
Take a Hike. Sign up for one of the Sonoran
Conservancy of Fountain Hills’ stargazing
hikes at the Adero Trailhead. Visit scfh.org for
a list of hikes.
If you want to get out in
nature while stargazing, visit
nearby McDowell Mountain
Regional Park or Needle
Rock Recreation Area north
of town. Tips for stargazing
on your own:
Bring a heavy blanket or
chairs to recline under
the stars. The more you
can relax your neck, the
longer you’ll want to
stargaze.
Use a red flashlight instead of a white flashlight to
protect your night vision so you can see more.
Download a free stargazing app before you head
out, but turn your phone’s screen brightness down
and set it to night mode to protect your night vision.
Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated in the desert.
