McDowell Mountain Regional Park<br />
Four Peaks<br />
The World-Famous <strong>Fountain</strong>, our<br />
namesake, is the focal point of<br />
community celebrations and a great<br />
source of pride for residents. At its<br />
full height of 560 feet, the fountain<br />
is higher than the Washington<br />
Monument and three times as high<br />
as Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park.<br />
View it in <strong>Fountain</strong> Park at the top of<br />
the hour from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for 15<br />
minutes, or watch the live stream 24<br />
hours a day at experiencefountainhills.<br />

Mountain Ranges surround you. Look<br />
to the northeast and you’ll see majestic,<br />
purple-hued Four Peaks, part of the<br />
Mazatzal Mountains, with elevations<br />
ranging from 1,900 to 7,657 feet.<br />
In the West, you’ll see the McDowell<br />
Mountain Range, which comprises<br />
some of the oldest rocks in Arizona,<br />
rising as high as 4,034 feet.<br />
Northwest vistas include the 2,830 foot<br />
Red Mountain known for the dramatic<br />
red glow it gives off during the last few<br />
hours of the day.<br />
Fort McDowell, Yavapai Nation<br />
Approximately 600 members of the<br />
Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation live in a<br />
40-square-mile reservation that borders<br />
<strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> on the east. Another<br />
300 members live off the reservation.<br />
Landmarks here include the oldest<br />
Presbyterian church in the state and<br />
a cultural center that exhibits Yavapai<br />
baskets, traditional clothing, war<br />
instruments, and other historic artifacts.<br />

Oasis<br />
<strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> has the distinct designation as the world’s 17th<br />
International Dark Sky Community and is a stargazing oasis in the<br />
Valley of the Sun. You don’t have to be an astronomer to appreciate<br />
the quality of the starry night from <strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong>. Just look up and<br />
see the constellations, planets, and even distant nebulae with your<br />
naked eye. <strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> was recently included in an exhibit about<br />
light pollution and dark sky preservation at the Smithsonian’s<br />
National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.<br />

Attend the annual <strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> Dark Sky<br />
Festival every March. Listen to a fascinating<br />
talk about the night sky, view the student<br />
art contest entries, experience a walk across<br />
the solar system, see live nocturnal animals,<br />
enjoy the food trucks and live music in the<br />
beer garden, look at celestial objects through<br />
telescopes, and watch a laser tour of the night<br />
sky. Free admission.<br />
Attend a Stargazing Event. The <strong>Fountain</strong><br />
<strong>Hills</strong> Dark Sky Association offers a variety<br />
of opportunities throughout the year such as<br />
Observe the Moon Night, the Town’s Party in<br />
the Park, Star Parties in Centennial Circle,<br />

Enjoy dinner and stargazing at Adero<br />

night sky-themed drinks at the Sky Top<br />

Use a red flashlight instead of a white flashlight to<br />
protect your night vision so you can see more.<br />
Download a free stargazing app before you head<br />
out, but turn your phone’s screen brightness down<br />
and set it to night mode to protect your night vision.<br />
Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated in the desert.<br />

A collection of over 150 pieces of public art can<br />
be enjoyed from just about any angle. Sculptures,<br />
water features, and other works of art adorn<br />
the downtown streets, plazas, parks, and other<br />

<strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> has one of the Valley’s largest publicly owned<br />
art collections. We invite you to experience our self-guided<br />
walking tour of more than 150 pieces.<br />
Six murals were recently installed on utility boxes along the<br />

McDowell Mountain Regional Park has over 50 miles of<br />
trails with beautiful desert scenery for hiking, mountain<br />
biking, and horseback riding. This over 21,000-acre<br />
regional park is located four miles north of <strong>Fountain</strong> <strong>Hills</strong>.<br />
For mountain bikers, the competitive track has three loop<br />
tracks; a long loop – 8.2 miles, a sport loop – 3.0 miles,<br />
and a technical loop – 2.9 miles. A pump track has been<br />
added to the Competitive Track trailhead. This twisting<br />
combination of table tops, rollers, and banked turns is a<br />
great way to improve weight shifting and bike handling<br />
skills. For campers, McDowell Mountain Park has 76<br />
individual sites for tent or RV camping. The developed<br />
