Annual Musical Play
I believe everyone has heard of the musical play
in last year’s Annual concert (2023), Peter Pan: The
British Musical. After the cast auditions, I was chosen
to play the role of “Captain Hook”, the ultimate villain of
the play. It was certainly a “tough-but-worthwhile”
process. The cast and I spent the last month of the
academic year preparing for the show. From nine o’clock
in the morning till 6 o’clock in the evening, we made
significant progress in terms of delivering the play.
Although everyone was exhausted by the
long and toilsome rehearsals, we all felt that it was
worth it. Through this process, we have understood
the quote “Teamwork makes the dream work”. When
the tears of joy ran down our eyes, we knew the
process was worth it. Down to my personal growth, I
have learned a lot in the rehearsal process. When I
was notified that I will be a main cast member, and
play the role “Captain Hook”, I was in shock. Since this
was my first year joining CKY’s musical play, I never
thought that I would play such an important role.
As Captain Hook’s characteristics were
almost completely opposite to mine, I had a hard time in
terms of understanding the character and actually
“Playing in” character. Thanks to all the support from
Ms. Yip, Ms. Wong, Ms. Sin, and Mr. Tsui, I have had a
brand new perspective on the character, and the
character “Captain Hook” was presented on stage to the
audience. Through the musical play, I have learned a lot
of acting skills, vocal skills, and dancing skills. Not only
this, but we also had lots of “Life lessons”, from our
director, Mr. Alz. Overall, the musical was a valuable
experience, or, I would say, a lesson, and now I’m
hooked; I look forward to future musical plays and hope
to participate and be a part of it!
