FALL – TO LOSE THE OLD, TO HAVE ITS PROPER
PLACE. THIS IS JUST PART OF THE MANY DEFINITIONS
OF WHAT THE DICTIONARY SAYS “FALL” IS. THE
DICTIONARY IS ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT FALL LIKE ‘I
FELL DOWN’, NOT FALL ‘THE SEASON’ AND YET HOW
APPROPRIATE GIVEN THE DEFINITION IS.THINK ABOUT
IT. FALL IS ABOUT "LOSING THE OLD", FALL IS ABOUT
CHANGE, VISIBLE CHANGE. THE COLOR CHANGE, THE
WEATHER CHANGE, THE SMELL CHANGE…..ITS ABOUT
CHANGE. BUT TO CHANGE MEANS THAT SOMETHING
MUST GO.I CAN WALK OUTSIDE AND SEE IT. I SEE IT AS I
DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD. LEAVES FALLING. WHAT WAS
ONCE A TREE DEEP IN RICH GREEN, THEN, A TREE WITH
VIBRANT SHADES OF RED AND ORANGE, NOW, A TREE
THAT WILL SOON BE EMPTY. NOTHING LEFT BUT THE
BRANCHES. I GUESS OUR HUMAN SIDE FINDS THAT SAD
AND WE WISH THE COLOR STAYED, WE THINK THE ONLY
THING THAT MAKES THE TREE BEAUTIFUL IS THE
COLORFUL LEAVES. SO WHAT DO YOU SEE? A BARE
TREE OR WHAT IS TO COME? FOR EVERY BEGINNING
THERE IS AN END AND FOR EVERY ENDING THERE IS A
NEW BEGINNING. WHAT I FIND AMAZING IS THAT THOSE
TREES ARE STILL STANDING. THEIR BRANCHES STILL
REACH OUT AND UPWARD. THERE IS BEAUTY IN THE
STRENGTH OF THOSE BRANCHES.IT'S A SIMILAR
PICTURE OF WHAT JESUS DOES IN OUR LIVES. WE GO
THROUGH ALL KINDS OF SEASONS. SOME ARE
SEASONS OF HARD TIMES, SOME LONELINESS,
SEASONS OF LOSS OR OTHER THINGS SUCH AS
FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS. AND THOSE SEASONS CHANGE
US. WE HAVE SEASONS THAT ARE BRIGHT AND

beautiful and rich in life. Then we have
seasons that He allows things in our life to
enter so that we don’t remain the same. But
through all those seasons He is telling us, let
go and let Me. Let go and let me show you
what I can do. Let go and let me show you
what I can teach you. There is strength in your
branches with Me. We have to let go to grow a
new perspective.
Is 43: 18-19 “Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old. Behold I am doing
a new thing: now it springs forth , do not
perceive it? It will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.”

OCTOBER ALWAYS BRINGS BACK FOND
MEMORIES OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HERE IN
THE FOOTHILLS OF NC OCTOBER WAS
HARVEST TIME ON THE FARM. HARVESTING OF
PUMPKINS, APPLES AND PEARS AND
ENTERING CANNED GOODS AND PUMPKINS
AT THE LOCAL FAIR. I REMEMBER ONE YEAR
WE ENTERED A PUMPKIN THAT WEIGHED
OVER 300 PONDS AND WON THE FIRST PLACE
RIBBON. VICKIE AND I WERE THRILLED.
WE ALSO CUT SUGAR CANE AND MADE
MOLASSES. HARD WORK ….BUT THEY WERE
SO GOOD. I HELPED DADDY GRIND THE
SUGAR CANE FROM THE FIELDS , THEN WE
HAD TO GRIND IT AND BOIL THE JUICE FROM
THE CANE. AFTER THAT,IT HAD TO BOIL 12
HOURS AND THE FOAM HAD TO BE SKIMMED
OFF THE TOP CONSTANTLY. WE ALWAYS HAD
FUN THOUGH, WHILE WE WORKED AND
WOULD HAVE HOT DOG ROASTS AND HOT
APPLE CIDER. WHAT GREAT MEMORIES AND
I’M SITTING HERE THINKING WHAT YOUTH ARE
MISSING OUT ON TODAY. THINK ABOUT THIS.
WILL YOUR GRAND CHILDREN AND CHILDREN
HAVE MEMORIES LIKE THESE OR WILL THEY
JUST REMEMBER YOU NOT HAVING TIME FOR
THEM. FAMILY IS SO

Tim Menzies grew up playing
music in Virginia as part of
the Menzies family band. In
1980, Tim moved to Nashville
to pursue a career in music.
During the mid 1980's, Tim
began playing guitar on

Kenny Rogers, Tammy
Wynette, Waylon and Willie

OF 1985, LEGENDARY PUBLISHER, BOB

Joy for the
Journey, not
just the
destination
Some days my only joy is in
heaven. Some days I wish Jesus
would hurry up and come get
me. Life is just too hard; and
the world is just too dark. I long
to receive that blessed rest,
and the fullness of joy in the
presence of Christ. I keep
longing for the day my time will
come, either by death or
raptured flight…until then, I
must endure here on earth.
That word, endure, makes
living on earth sound
miserable, though, doesn’t it? If
I’m not careful, I can stop living
altogether wishing for
somewhere else to be. A
narrow focus on what is too
hard and too dark will squeeze
all the joy and purpose out of
every day. If I only ever think of
the joy of being in the presence
of Jesus in heaven, I miss out

on the daily invitation to rest in
His presence here. Too often we
operate from the wrong
perspective, believing the joy is in
the destination. But Jesus
promised us joy in every step of
the journey! Consider these
promises: “I will never leave thee
nor forsake thee” (Heb 13:5) and,
“Lo, I am with thee alway, even
unto the end of the earth” (Matt
28:20). Christ is with us always,
and the psalmist said, “in His
presence is fullness of joy” (Psa
16:11). We do not have to pine
away for heaven waiting to feel
joy in our lives again. We have an
abiding Savior with us! We have
access to His presence and His
fullness of joy all the time. It is
not bad to long for heaven….until
it becomes an excuse not to live.
The Bible tells us that our weak
and sin-cursed bodies, along with
all creation, long to be made new
(Rom 8:22-23). There is no sin in
longing for a resurrection body
and a new heaven and earth. But
the scriptures encourage us that
weakness is to be viewed as a gift
from God, because in weakness
we find God’s Grace is sufficient,
and His strength made perfect (2
Cor 12:9). Every challenge we
face on earth, whether it be
physical, emotional, or spiritual,
is a unique opportunity to draw
closer to Christ, and experience
more of His peace and power,
and yes, joy! Heaven will be far
more wonderful than anything
we can imagine, but this daily
walk with Christ can be more
wonderful than what you’ve
imagined, too. It’s time we
stopped believing our joy is only
in heaven. Our joy is in Jesus,
and Jesus lives in us. You’re
going to get where you’re going,
friend. But don’t forget Who is
going with you! You need not
endure another day feeling
defeated and joyless. Let Christ’s
love and power endure in your
life, His presence, His peace, His
joy.

Does your brain default to playing
your sins over and over in your head
when you’re not being distracted by
some kind of social media, noise, etc.?
Are there things in your past that
make you feel like you just can’t
release? Do you feel that somehow
dwelling on those things and feeling
shame for them for the rest of your
life is some sort of honorary badge to
claim? Do you feel there is a constant
cloud of guilt and shame following
you? Even after taking it to the cross,
do you drag it away again as if it’s
attached to your ankle?
Somewhere along the way we have
convinced ourselves that we owe it to
the Heavenly Father to sit in the guilt
and shame of our past. We feel it’s
only then that He will know how truly
sorry we are – nothing could be
farther from the truth! Too many of
us, including yours truly, have played
this shame game for far too long.
Forgiven & Free
We’ve all sinned. We’ve all wasted
time wishing we could go back and
rewrite the past. Scripture tells us that
as followers of Jesus, we have been
forgiven. If Jesus has paid the price for
our sins, then why do we still choose to
live in our guilt and shame? Why don’t
we just live forgiven and free?
“The thief comes only to steal, kill, and
destroy.” John 10:10

SATAN’S #1 GOAL IS TO ISOLATE US,
MAKE US FEEL ALONE, AND USE OUR PAST
MISTAKES TO MAKE US FEEL AS IF THE
HEAVENLY FATHER COULD NEVER FORGIVE
SOMEONE LIKE US. IN ISAIAH 43:25 WE ARE
TOLD “I WILL REMEMBER YOUR SINS NO
MORE.”
IF THE HEAVENLY FATHER HAS ALREADY
FORGIVEN OUR PAST, THEN WHAT MAKES
US THINK THAT WE SHOULD STILL BE LIVING
IN IT? WHEN WE CHOOSE TO SIT IN OUR
GUILT AND SHAME, WE HAVE AN EVEN
BIGGER PROBLEM. WE ARE ACTING AS LORD
OF OUR
OWN LIVES, THINKING AND ACTING AS IF
WE ARE WISER THAN THE HEAVENLY
FATHER. SOUNDS ABSURD, RIGHT? IT’S
TRUE.
GOD IS NOT ANGRY WITH YOU SO, DON’T
BECOME A HOSTAGE TO YOUR PAST. IF THE
HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO KNOWS AND
LOVES YOU BETTER THAN ANYBODY, HAS
ALREADY FORGIVEN YOU, WHO ARE YOU
NOT TO FORGIVE YOURSELF?
IT’S TIME TO LET IT GO. SAY IT WITH ME -
LET IT GO! IT’S TIME TO MOVE PAST OUR
GUILT AND SHAME AND FULLY ACCEPT HIS
FORGIVENESS. LIVE FORGIVEN AND FREE IN
THE LIFE THE HEAVENLY FATHER CREATED
US FOR.
WHEN YOU HAVE ASKED FOR HIS
FORGIVENESS, HE ALREADY KNOWS HOW
SORRY YOU ARE. LEAN INTO HIM AND LIVE
FORGIVEN AND FREE. BECAUSE WHEN YOU
DO, HE WILL TAKE YOUR MISTAKES AND
MAKE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL OUT OF
THEM. LET YOUR PAST MISTAKES GUIDE YOU
TO LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE AND NOT DEFINE
YOU.

This week, I have been thinking about life and how we live it. I was scrolling through
Facebook and a friend of mine posted, “Unfortunately, we’re not here long enough
to be living unhappy. Fortunately, I’m happy!”. Then not too longer after that, I was
headed up to the hospital room where my mother in law was, and a nurse asked
what time it was. I told her and she said, “Time ain’t waiting on anybody.” So today,
I encourage you to live life to the fullest and remember God has the time and
seasons in His hands and we are only here for a short amount of time so make the
best of it and be happy!
