Selbu Mitten Competition

Ever wanted to design your own
pair of fingering weight Selbu-style
mittens but didn’t know where to
start? Well, now is your chance!
Blocked is holding two competitions between
now and the end of the year.
The first competition is to design an original
fair isle, cable, or gansey style pattern onto the graph
templates on pages 33-35.
To do this you can either print off the template
and hand-color the design, or, use design software
such as stitchfiddle, stitch master, or just plain Excel
using the same or similar stitch counts. However you
create your design please ensure any photos/graphs
are clear and show each individual cell/square/color.
You may adapt the design (stitch count, rib style,
etc), but the design must still be a Selbu style mitten.
Please do not send designs for gloves or fingerless
mitts.
Family members and non-knitters are eligible to
enter designs. However, the design must be physically
possible to knit. If designing a fair isle pattern,
please don’t use more than two colors per round or
have huge floats.
Both the left and right mittens must be designed,
whether they match or not.
All submissions will be presented (with names and
identifying features removed) to the Blocked patrons
who will then vote for the winner.

● Submit designs and clear photos/graphs to
blockedmagazine@gmail.com. Please put ‘Mitten 1’ in
the subject line.
● Prize: $25 voucher (Amazon or yarn dyer tbc).
To enter the second competition, you
will need to have submitted a design within the deadline
above. You can knit your own design, or a family
member’s design. You only need to knit one of the
mittens, unless both mittens in the pair are different.
In that case both mittens must be knitted.
Use any fingering weight, sock weight, or 4-ply
yarns.
Please submit clear photos of your knitted
mitten(s). The finished piece will be judged by Liz
Clothier of @lizclothierdesigns.

the subject line.
● Prize: $25 voucher (Amazon or yarn dyer tbc).
X-rated and 18+ designs may be submitted. However,
when publishing the images in the magazine
these will be via a link where readers can choose to
look at them or not. All other entries will be freely
available for readers to view.
By entering this competition you agree to give
Blocked Magazine permission to publish your competition
design(s)/pattern(s), redraft those
designs/patterns(s), and publish relevant photographs/graphs
in future issues of Blocked Magazine.
You will share copyright of your own designs with
Blocked Magazine and this agreement does not prohibit
you from reproducing, republishing, selling, or
giving away your own mitten design(s).
