charts from hand drawn to much clearer, cleaner software
generated images. I think, once you have a copy
of the book, Kelly makes these charts available (you will
need the book to understand them though).
There are 74 patterns in the Number Knitting book.
You won’t like or knit them all, but when all things are
considered, $1 per pattern isn’t too much of a stretch.
Additionally, Kelly regularly offers extremely generous
discounts (25% and 50%) for those willing to test
knit some updated patterns from the book or join in
with her Number Knitting knit-a-longs.
Kelly hosts her knitalongs during weekly Sunday
YouTube lives. Her YouTube channel is fun, engaging,
self-effacing, informative, and is on my ‘never miss’ list
(although I usually have to catch up later due to time
zone differences).
In closing, I’m unsure if Kelly will ever republish the
book (with updated charts/diagrams) as, from watching
her YouTube, she claims she has much more to learn
from the book. I understand this. The knitting books of
old (Mary Thomas, Elizabeth Zimmerman, etc) often
squeezed the most valuable gems of information into a
sea of type. You have to wade through the words diligently
to find them all.
The ‘Golden Ratio’ cowl and blanket patterns on
page 15 (although originally mentioned on page 27 of
issue 4) are my loose homage to Virginia’s work.
