They returned home with the determination to bring Abbeville closer to its French heritage by hosting an omelette festival and joining the sisterhood of cities that celebrate the omelette - Bessieres, France; Frejus, France; Dumbea, New Caledonia; Granby, Quebec in Canada; Malmedy, Belgium; and Pigue, Argentina. Each year, foreign representatives from each of these cities are invited to Abbeville to be knighted as chevaliers (chefs) into Abbeville’s Confrerie (fraternity). On Concord Street, which stretches from the majestic moss-covered live oak trees in historic Magdalen Square to the live oaks in front of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse, they help to prepare the 5000 egg Giant Cajun Omelette. They also come to experience the area’s joie de vivre, share its rich culture, meet and mingle with its people, and to make memories and friendships which last a lifetime. The omelette is then given away freely to all in attendance. BBQ, Bourbon and Blues Festival November 4, Thibodeaux https://www.lafourchearc.org/event On November 4, the lawn of the Harang Auditorium in Thibodaux will be the place to be! The smell of smokey barbeque, soulful sounds of blues bands, and smooth tasty bourbon will appeal to all the senses. Lafourche Arc is proud to present their newest event celebrating 60 years in service of the community: the BBQ, Bourbon, and Blues Festival. Lafourche Arc is a nonprofit organization that provides support for people with developmental disabilities of all ages across multiple parishes. They provide at-home services as well as locations around the community to help people with developmental disabilities learn skills, socialize, and more. The BBQ, Bourbon, and Blues Festival helps raise awareness across the community about people with developmental disabilities and the value they bring. You’ll enjoy the sounds of giggling and screaming children as they run from each exhibit or take a ride on the holiday train and visit with Santa. The large, lighted water tower will guide you to the destination. Fireworks, parade, entertainment, vendors, and Santa are all in attendance on the premiere night. Bring the entire family.
