The new field-mountable FM45 Cat. 6 A
EL
RJ45 connector is being used as a pilot
for plastic-free packaging. First, R&M will
evaluate how customers accept the packaging
concept. In addition, experience with
automated production and processing must
be gained. As a result, R&M is expected to
be able to save around 1,000 kg of plastic
packaging and 90 kg of paper for installation
instructions a year with this product.
Various aspects need to be taken into account.
A few examples:
– The bag made of recycled paper must be
printed directly. This means no sticker is
needed for the label.
– The darker paper reduces color contrast.
This had to be taken into account in the
layout.
– The paper bag is opaque. For this reason,
a product picture is printed on the bag so
users can see what’s inside.
– On the back, you can see a quick guide in
the form of graphics. If you require more
detailed instructions, you can find them
online using the printed QR code.
Presentation in wooden boxes
To date, representative presentation boxes
have often been used to launch new products,
usually cardboard boxes with foam inserts.
Overall, R&M does not actually use many of
these presentation boxes. Nevertheless, with
the market launch of the FM45 Cat. 6 A
EL,
the team also wanted to break new ground
in terms of product marketing. The aim was
to keep the presentation box completely free
of foam and to consistently implement the
«Reduce, Reuse, Recycle» concept.
This was achieved with two concepts:
A solution based on a sustainably usable
wooden box was developed to be used when
the focus is on representative properties.
The box is not assembled from single parts,
but milled from two boards of ash wood. A
layered cardboard insert to accommodate
single parts completes the solution.

If the wooden box is no longer needed for
product presentation, the cardboard insert
can be recycled and the box reused for
decorative purposes.
When it comes to the convenient handing
over of products for testing purposes, R&M
does without a solid box. The products are
packed between two layered cardboard
inserts. A paper band holds the two halves
together.
All materials in this solution can be recycled
after use.
