Music Technology<br />
Examination board: Edexcel<br />
OVERVIEW<br />
You will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding<br />
needed to compose, sequence, record, analyse and produce<br />
music during this course, developing mastery in the different<br />
disciplines of music technology.<br />
You will learn to understand the science behind sound and<br />
apply your understanding through professional standard<br />
multi-track recordings made in our purpose-built music<br />
studio. Musical listening and appraising skills will be<br />
developed while studying the history of music and you will<br />
apply your knowledge by composing in particular styles or to<br />
set briefs.<br />
As well as the mixing and mastering process of the multi-track<br />
recording, you will learn advanced Logic Pro X editing and<br />
manipulation skills and processes which are applied through<br />
sequencing and composition work.<br />
Students are encouraged to use our recording studios outside<br />
lesson time to develop skills, complete recording tasks, mix<br />
and master their work. You will be encouraged to develop<br />
instrumental skills, to enhance your musical ability and<br />
understanding and apply your technical skills at the school’s<br />
live performances, recitals and concerts.<br />
Assessment<br />
At the end of the course, the<br />
assessment comprises three<br />
parts: recording, producing and<br />
listening/appraising of music<br />
technology.<br />
Future Pathways<br />
This can lead to undergraduate<br />
courses such as the Tonmeister<br />
degree at the University of Surrey,<br />
music production at Leeds<br />
Conservatoire or University of<br />
York, live sound engineering at<br />
ACM and music technology at<br />
Birmingham Conservatoire. Career<br />
opportunities may include sound<br />
engineering, music production,<br />
teaching, composing for film<br />
and media, music journalism and<br />
music software development.<br />
