disastrosa acqua alta e continuati con la terribile pandemia, è pronta a rinascere e
lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla sua
fondazione.
Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto
il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.
Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo
paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà
unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.
Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,
porto off-shore e lo sviluppo di Porto Marghera, sono le scommesse per il rilancio di questo

Welcome to a City that is ready, following those dark months beginning in November 2019 with a disastrous
high water and continuing with the terrible pandemic, for a rebirth taking place concurrently with the inception
of celebrations for the 1600 years since its foundation.
Venice is living once again, and doing so with the courage and determination that have always distinguished
its being the Queen of Seas and a symbol of unity between its Stato da Mar and Stato da Tera, or Marine State
and Land State.
A delicate balance, which has forever characterised the varied aspects making up its landscape - from its
islands to its whole metropolitan territory - creating a unique tourist offer and reality worldwide, which
everyone is called upon to respect and preserve.
Venice is and shall always be a vibrant city believing in the future: innovation, novel manufacturing, an offshore
port and the development of Porto Marghera are the challenges for relaunching this territory, which
wishes to position itself increasingly, in addition to being a tourist destination, as a great capital for cultures

St. Mark’s Square is a monumental site and
excluding pertinent bars and restaurants, it is
forbidden to stand at any time in order to consume
food or drink.
Venice is a city of art: it is forbidden to camp,
walk about in swimwear, dive and swim. The
beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily
reached.
Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do
not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not
give food to the pigeons.
If you are staying in an apartment or flat, please
get informed about the garbage recycling
collection.
Plan your trip and choose to visit Venice when it
is less crowded.

della città nasce nel 1977 da alcuni membri dell’Associazione
Triveneta delle Chiavi d’Oro.
A distanza di anni questa pubblicazione prosegue nel
suo cammino grazie anche alla collaborazione con
questa associazione.
È quindi con piacere che pubblichiamo questo breve

members of the Golden Keys Triveneto
Association.
Years later, this periodical is still ongoing, also
thanks to its partnership with this association.

LA VELA, TRA STORIA
E PASSIONE
Se la vicina Trieste con la sua Barcolana, straordinaria regata nota al mondo,
si conferma in questi giorni come città capitale della Vela, Venezia, da sempre
città mare, non vuol certo apparire di meno.
La sua storia, è noto, passa appunto per la vela, intesa non come sport ma
come vero è proprio modus vivendi.
Navigando a vela i veneziani arrivarono a toccare tutti i limiti del Mediterraneo,
dall’Egeo alla Terra Santa fino all’Egitto e anche oltre, toccando terre
sconosciute al tempo, come Capo Verde estrema prominenza occidentale
dell’Africa e le isole Lofoten, al nord della Norvegia.
La storia stessa dell’antica Repubblica passò dal famoso Arsenale, già menzionato
da Dante. Qui si forgiava la flotta che per secoli portò il dominio della
Serenissima su tutto l’Adriatico spingendo i suoi floridi commerci fin lungo la
Via della Seta.
Questa storia e questa passione sono oggi lontani ma idealmente rivivono in
città, grazie a due spettacolari regate, diverse tra loro, ma comunque assimilate
da quello spirito antico.
Sono due occasioni che non mancheranno di trascinare partecipanti e pubblico
in una vera e propria festa della Vela.
Si partirà sabato 14 ottobre (alle ore 13.30) per la decima edizione del Venice
Hospitality Challenge promosso dallo Yacth Club di Venezia, una vera e
propria sfida, tra passione sportiva e glamour. Protagonisti con i loro equipaggi
saranno degli splendidi Maxi Yacht abbinati ad altrettante eccellenze
rappresentanti l’hôtellerie veneziana. Per l’occasione, l’evento sarà legato ad
una mostra celebrativa visibile fino al 15 ottobre presso il Palazzo Vittoria alle
Zattere, sede della Fondazione VAC.
La domenica seguente, 15 ottobre, l’appuntamento sarà invece con Veleziana
festoso raduno velico, che con oltre 250 imbarcazioni di ogni tipo riempirà
di colori il bacino di San Marco offrendo un’occasione unica di rivivere per
un momento, quello spirito di amicizia e passione per il mare che portò così
lontano Venezia.
Alle due manifestazioni si potrà liberamente assistere dalle rive di San Marco
e dalle isole di San Giorgio e della Giudecca.

SAILING,
BETWEEN HISTORY AND PASSION
If nearby Trieste is confirmed these days as the
capital city of sailing with its Barcolana, an exceptional
regatta known throughout the world, Venice,
which has always been a marine city, certainly
does not wish to appear to a lesser extent.
It is well known that its history has passed
through sailing, understood not as a sport but as
an actual lifestyle. Through sailing, the Venetians
reached all the boundaries of the Mediterranean,
from the Aegean to the Holy Land, up to Egypt
and even beyond, touching unknown lands for
the time, such as Cabo Verde, the extreme western
protrusion of Africa and the Lofoten islands,
in the north of Norway.
The very history of the ancient Republic has
passed through the famous Arsenal, even mentioned
by Dante. Here they forged the fleet
which took the Serenissima’s dominion for centuries
over the entire Adriatic, driving its flourishing
commerce from here along the Silk Road.
Such history and such passion are both distant
today, but are brought back to life in town ideally,
thanks to two spectacular regattas, differing
from each other, nevertheless still conforming to
that ancient spirit.
They are two occasions which will not fail to draw
their participants and the public into a true sailing
festival.
The Venice Hospitality Challenge, a veritable
challenge between sporting passion and glamour,
starts with its tenth edition on Saturday 14 October
(at 1.30pm), on maxi yachts each paired with
the same number of Venetian hôtellerie excellences.
The event will be linked for this occasion to
a celebratory exhibition, visible until 15 October
at Palazzo Vittoria, headquarters
of the VAC Foundation, at the
Zattere.
The following Sunday, on 15
October, the rendez-vous will
be with the Veleziana, a festive
sailing gathering, filling Saint
Mark’s Basin with over 250 boats
of all sorts and colours, offering
a unique opportunity for a moment
to re-experience the spirit
of friendship and passion for the
sea, which took Venice so far.
Both events may be watched
freely from the quaysides of
Saint Mark and from the Giudecca
and San Giorgio islands.
OTTOBRE A VENEZIA
Sono vari i motivi per cui consigliare un soggiorno
veneziano, ancor più, se questo cade nel mese di
ottobre.
Innanzitutto la dolcezza di un clima che prelude
alla stagione invernale ma che riserva quei piaceri
che solo poche città possono offrire.
Ma cosa consigliare?... Senza dubbio le cose più
semplici. Quella per esempio di lasciarsi inebriare
da un tramonto in laguna o di passeggiare fino a
perdersi (per poi ritrovarsi) lungo il labirinto di calli;
di attraversare a pelo d’acqua il Canal Grande a
bordo di uno degli ultimi traghetti di gondole o di
lasciarsi ammaliare dalla moltitudine di vetrine di
botteghe e negozi o ancora, di gustarsi un aperitivo,
un caffè, un gelato, una cena godendo del
plateatico della città o di salire su uno dei tanti
campanili e lasciarsi incantare da una veduta “a
volo d’uccello”.
Per chi poi può prendersi la libertà (e il tempo) per
un breve viaggio, ecco la possibilità di scoprire il
fascino emanato dalla laguna e dalle sue piccole
isole o lasciarsi emozionare dalla visione del mare
lungo la spiaggia del Lido.
Ma c’è ancora un lato che può conquistare l’attenzione
e la voglia di fare nuove scoperte: sono gli
eventi che la città, praticamente tutto l’anno, offre
ai suoi ospiti. Eventi in gran parte unici che toccano
gli ambiti (e le passioni) più diverse.
Ecco allora presentarsi una scelta che ben pochi
luoghi possono vantare: mostre d’arte, esposizioni,
concerti, spettacoli, incontri, appuntamenti
sportivi e occasioni per il tempo libero…
Da buona agenda turistica cerchiamo di presentarle
tutte, come sempre, con la massima sintesi
e ordine nelle pagine a seguire.

Da subito invece ecco una veloce carrellata sulle principali attrazioni e novità del
mese partendo dal panorama espositivo e, ancora una volta, dall’evento di maggior
richiamo dell’estate, la Mostra internazionale di Architettura.
Presentata da La Biennale di Venezia, storica istituzione culturale italiana, ci presenta
una visione sul prossimo futuro del mondo e del rapporto tra uomo e ambiente
partendo dal quel continente che più di tutti sta vivendo un cambiamento epocale,
l’Africa.
Il laboratorio del futuro, è il titolo proposto per questa edizione dalla curatrice Lesley
Lokko, prende idealmente avvio dal Padiglione Centrale ai Giardini, per poi snodarsi
lungo il complesso dell’Arsenale giungendo fino in terraferma.
L’esposizione comprende naturalmente
le Partecipazioni nazionali
(quest’anno 63) con singole mostre allestite
nei Padiglioni ai Giardini e all’Arsenale
oltre che nel centro storico ed
una serie di esposizioni collaterali.
Dalle forme offerte dall’Architettura a
quelle dell’Arte. Anche in questo caso
il panorama è vastissimo e arricchito
nel mese da alcune importanti novità.
Per l’arte moderna - quella del Novecento
- sono due le grandi occasioni
da non perdere: la mostra su Marcel
Duchamp, “La seduzione della copia”
proposta a partire dal 14 ottobre
dalla celebre Collezione Peggy Guggenheim
e quella su Marc Chagall,
“Il colore dei sogni” promossa dalla
Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia e
da poco aperta presso il Centro Candiani
a Mestre.
Tra Ottocento e Novecento altre due
mostre non mancheranno di appassionare
il visitatore: la retrospettiva su
Italico Brass dal titolo “Il pittore di Venezia”, dedicata ad un artista romantico che il
tempo aveva dimenticato, presso la sede dell’Istituto Veneto e “Il ritratto veneziano
dell’Ottocento” rivisitazione della prima importante esposizione presentata dalla
Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Ca’Pesaro e promossa dalla Fondazione Musei Civici di
Venezia (dal 21 del mese).
La stessa Fondazione presenterà nei fascinosi spazi del Museo del Settecento Veneziano
di Ca’Rezzonico una esposizione dedicata a quella che viene considerata
una delle artiste a livello europeo più note del Settecento, Rosalba Carriera.
Di lei sarà presentata (dal 13 ottobre) una preziosa raccolta di miniature su avorio
Altre importanti mostre proseguono nel mese. Tra queste le due presentate dalla Fondazione
Pinault, Chronorama e Icone rispettivamente a Palazzo Grassi e Punta della
Dogana e le due ospitate presso la Fondazione Cini, nell’isola di San Giorgio, rispettivamente
sui grandi Maestri boemi del Vetro e sulla fotografia di Paolo Pellegrin.
Ricordiamo ancora Imago Iustitiae. Capolavori attraverso i secoli presso il Museo
Correr, sintesi artistico-concettuale del significato di Giustizia; Everybody Talks
about the Weather presentata dalla Fondazione Prada a Ca’ Corner della Regina,
inedito progetto di ricerca sulla correlazione tra arti visive e tempo meteorologico; A
World of Potential dedicata alla potenzialità dell’essere umano con la coinvolgente
installazione di Arthur Duff, allestita presso i bellissimi spazi di recente restaurati
delle Procuratie Vecchie e infine, Kengo Kuma a Palazzo Franchetti, rivolta. all’opera
dell’innovativo architetto giapponese.

Alla pagina dell’Arte si affianca poi quella degli spettacoli, anche questa densa di
appuntamenti. Per la Musica il panorama è per buona parte rappresentato dall’intenso
calendario del Teatro La Fenice che nel mese si presenta con due importanti
rappresentazioni verdiane quali la celeberrima Traviata e I due Foscari, opera tratta
dall’omonimo dramma di Byron, ridotta a libretto da Francesco Maria Piave.
Si inseriscono nel mese l’ultima rappresentazione dell’Orlando furioso di Vivaldi e il
Gala di Danza. "Guardando le stelle" entrambi presentati al Teatro Malibran e, ancora
per La Fenice, i due concerti sinfonici diretti da Dennis Russell Davies, direttore
d’orchestra e pianista statunitense e i due eventi straordinari della Biennale di
Venezia, con Brian Eno,
celebre protagonista
dei Roxy Music, insignito
quest'anno del prestigioso
Leone d’Oro alla Carriera
in occasione del Festival
Internazionale di Musica
Contemporanea. E proprio
quest’ultimo, diretto
da Lucia Ronchetti, rappresenterà
un’altra grande
occasione di interesse.
Ideato nel lontano 1930
da La Biennale di Venezia
e giunto quest’anno
alla sua 67. edizione si
presenterà dal 16 al 29
ottobre con un programma di eventi e concerti dedicati al suono digitale, approfondendo
tendenze stilistiche della scena musicale internazionale.
Al panorama culturale di Arte e Musica di affianca poi quello sportivo con tre appuntamenti
che si fondono, quasi all’unisono, con il carattere e lo spirito della città.
Due di questi riguardano la passione per la Vela e quindi per la navigazione, un
tempo vero e proprio stile di vita di una città che inevitabilmente nella sua storia
ha dovuto vivere a contatto con l’acqua e il mare: sono Venice Hospitality Challenge,
vero e proprio Gran premio sull’acqua riservato ai maxi-yacht che, unico
caso al mondo, si sfideranno sulle acque della laguna, e Veleziana, regata non
competitiva, ideale festa di chiusura della stagione velica che vedrà sfilare oltre
200 imbarcazioni a vela davanti all’antico Molo di San Marco. I due appuntamenti,
di grande suggestione, saranno in programma rispettivamente sabato e domenica
14 e 15 ottobre.
E se la Vela ha fatto la storia della città, c’è una manifestazione che invece ci ricorda
che Venezia, città per eccellenza a misura d’uomo, è forse oggi l’unica rimasta al
mondo interamente pedonale.
Ecco allora che il risultato non può essere che una maratona di successo come
VeniceMarathon, da molti anni (questa è la sua 37. edizione) nel novero delle più
prestigiose competizioni internazionali del settore.
Il suo valore, distinto anche da un notevole impegno a sfondo benefico, è comunque
anche quello di aver saputo conservare, nonostante la celebrità, il carattere
di una semplice corsa offrendo frazioni aperte a famiglie e neofiti della specialità.
Parteciparvi o anche solo assistervi, lascerà un emozione che resterà nel tempo.
Due particolari eventi infine chiuderanno il mese con un programma che interesserà
un’intera settimana: saranno Venice Fashion Week, la collaudata rassegna
tutta veneziana dedicata all’alto artigianato della Moda (19-28 ottobre) e Venice
Cocktail Week (23-29 ottobre) un’originale manifestazione che coinvolgerà professionisti
e appassionati alla ricerca del gusto, in questo caso del bere. D.R.

OCTOBER IN VENICE
The reasons for recommending a stay in ––Venice are various, even more so if it falls in
the month of October.
First of all, the mildness of a climate that is a prelude to the winter season, but which
reserves pleasures that only few cities can offer.
But what to recommend?... Without a doubt, the simplest things. For example, allowing
oneself be inebriated by a sunset over the lagoon or strolling until one gets lost (and then
finds oneself again) along the maze of alleyways; crossing the Grand Canal at water level
aboard one of the last gondola-ferries or letting oneself be beguiled by the multitude of
shop windows, or savouring an aperitif, a coffee, an ice-cream or a dinner whilst enjoying
the town setting, or climbing one of the many belltowers and allowing oneself be enchanted
by a “bird’s eye” view.
And for those who may take the liberty (and the time) for a short trip, there is the opportunity
to discover the charm emanating from the lagoon and its small islands, or of being
moved by the view of the sea along the Lido beach…
But there is still an aspect to catch one’s attention and the desire for making new discoveries:
the events offered by the city to its guests, practically all year round. Largely unique
events, addressing the most diverse ambits (and passions). Here then are options which
very few places can boast of: art exhibitions, showcases, concerts, shows, meetings, sporting
events and opportunities for leisure time...
In the style of a good tourist listing, we shall endeavour to present all of them in the following
pages, as always, with the maximum possible summarisation and order. And now
here is a quick overview of the main attractions and novelties for this month.
Let us start from the exhibitions scenario, and once again from the summer’s most popular
event, the International Architecture Exhibition. Presented by the Venice Biennale,
the historic Italian cultural institution, it shows us a vision of the near future of the world,
and the relationship between mankind and the environment, starting from the continent
which more than any other is going through a watershed change, Africa.
The laboratory of the future, the title proposed for this edition by its curator Lesley Lokko,
begins ideally in the Central Pavilion at the Giardini, then winding throughout the Arsenal
complex and reaching the mainland. The exhibition naturally includes the national Participations
(63 this year) with individual exhibitions set up within the Pavilions in the Giardini and
the Arsenal, as well as in the historic centre and a series of collateral exhibitions.
From the formats offered by Architecture to Art. Its scenario is extremely vast in this case
too, and enriched by some important novelties during this month. For modern art - the
Twentieth century’s - the great unmissable opportunities are twofold: the exhibition on
Marcel Duchamp, “The lure of the copy” offered by the prestigious Peggy Guggenheim
Collection starting from 14 October; the one on Marc Chagall, “The colour of dreams”
promoted by the Venice City Museums Foundation which opened recently at the Candiani
Centre in Mestre.
Two more exhibitions between the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries will not fail to enthuse
visitors: the retrospective on Italico Brass titled “The painter of Venice”, dedicated
to a romantic artist forgotten by time, at the headquarters of the Veneto Institute and
“The Nineteenth-century Venetian portrait” a review of the first important exhibition
presented by the Ca’ Pesaro Gallery of Modern Art, presented by the Venice City Museums
Foundation (from the 21st of this month).
The same Foundation will present an exhibition in the charming spaces of the Ca’ Rezzonico
Venetian Eighteenth-century Museum, dedicated to Rosalba Carriera, deemed to be
one of the most famous female artists at a European level of the Eighteenth century. A
precious collection of ivory miniatures by her will be on display (from 13 October).
Other important exhibitions are continuing throughout this month. Among them, the two
presented by the Pinault Foundation, Chronorama and Icons respectively at Palazzo

Grassi and at Punta della Dogana, and the two hosted at the Cini Foundation on the
island of San Giorgio, respectively on the great Bohemian glass-masters and on Paolo
Pellegrin’s photography.
May we also recall Imago Iustitiae. Masterpieces through the centuries at the Correr
Museum, an artistic and conceptual synthesis on the meaning of Justice; Everybody
Talks about the Weather presented by the Prada Foundation at Ca’ Corner
della Regina, an unprecedented research project on the correlation between visual
arts and the weather; A World of Potential dedicated to the potential of a human
being with Arthur Duff’s immersive installation, set up in the lovely recently restored
spaces of the Old Procuratie, and lastly, on the work of innovative Japanese
architect Kengo Kuma at Palazzo Franchetti.
The Art page is flanked by the shows page, also packed with events.
The Music panorama is largely represented by La Fenice Theatre’s formidable billboard,
which is presenting two important performances by Verdi this month, such as
the celebrated Traviata and The two Foscari, an opera based on Byron’s eponymous
drama, adapted to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. The final performance of Orlando
furioso by Vivaldi is scheduled this month, as well as Dance Gala. Watching
the stars, both presented at the Malibran Theatre and, also for La Fenice, the two
symphony concerts conducted by American orchestra conductor and pianist Dennis
Russell Davies, and the two special events with Brian Eno, the famed protagonist
of Roxy Music, awarded by the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement
for the occasion of the International Contemporary Music Festival. And the latter,
directed by Lucia Ronchetti, will feature another interesting top occasion. Conceived
in distant 1930 by the Venice Biennale and reaching its 67th edition this year, from 16
to 29 October it will be presenting a programme of events and concerts dedicated to
digital sound, creating insights into stylistic trends on the international music scene.
The cultural scenario of Art and Music is furthermore flanked by sports events, with
three events blending, almost in unison, with the city’s character and spirit. Two of
them address the passion for Sailing and thus for navigation, at one time a true lifestyle
for a town which inevitably had to live in contact with water and the sea in the
course of its history: they are the Venice Hospitality Challenge, a true Grand Prix
on water reserved for maxi-yachts, competing on the waters of the lagoon in a case
which is unique worldwide, and the Veleziana, a non-competitive regatta, an ideal
big farewell party to the sailing season, featuring over 200 sailing boats parading
in front of the ancient Saint Mark Quay. These two highly suggestive events will be
respectively scheduled for Saturday and Sunday 14 and 15 October.
And if sailing has made history in the city, there is an event which reminds us that
Venice, a human-scale town par excellence, is perhaps nowadays the only entirely
pedestrian city in the world.
Therefore the result can only be a successful marathon like the VeniceMarathon,
for many years (this is its 37th edition) amongst the most prestigious international
competitions in the sector.
Its worthiness, also distinguished by a notable commitment to charity, is that of having
been able, anyhow, despite its fame, to maintain its character as a simple race
with sections open to families and to beginners of this speciality. Participating in it,
or even just watching, will leave a lasting emotion over time.
Finally, two particular events will close the month with a programme spanning an entire
week: they are the Venice Fashion Week, the established wholly-Venetian event
dedicated to high craftsmanship in fashion (19-28 October) and the Venice Cocktail
Week (23-29 October), an original event involving professionals and enthusiasts in a
tasting quest, in this case drinks.

After 46 years since its last
performance, it will be staged with

la musica al di sopra degli affari di stato.
Ottima organista, pianista e cantante, dimostrò nella
sua vita anche notevoli doti artistiche, tra le quali
una passione per la scrittura che la condusse sulla
via della letteratura e in particolare della poesia e
del folklore. Non solo, per il suo pensiero e la visione
liberale, verrà considerata anche come una
repubblicana ante-litteram.
In occasione del suo 180° compleanno, l’Associazione
Culturale Italo-Tedesca di Venezia nella
prestigiosa sede di Palazzo Albrizzi, ricorderà il 14
di ottobre la figura di questa regina-poetessa con
l’ultimo evento di un’importante tournée a lei dedicata,
con tappe in Romania, Austria e Germania, nei
luoghi in cui visse.
L’occasione vedrà nella raffinata sede veneziana
una speciale serata con il soprano Rodica Vica che
si esibirà in un Recital di Lieder composti da George
Enescu e tratti da testi poetici di Carmen Sylva.
Accompagnerà al pianoforte Mara Dorbesco.
La manifestazione Carmen Silva 180, promossa
con il sostegno dell’Associazione per la Musica,
l’Arte e la Cultura di Bucarest, del Fondo Culturale

The wife of Charles I of Roumania, her love for music
took place above affairs of State.
An excellent organist, pianist and singer, she also
demonstrated remarkable artistic skills in her life,
including a passion for writing which led her onto
the literary path, in particular poetry and folklore.
Not only, due to her views and her liberal vision, she
would also be considered as a Republican precursor.
For the occasion of her 180th birthday, the Italo-German
Cultural Association in Venice will remember
the figure of this poet-queen within its prestigious
Palazzo Albrizzi seat on 14 October, on the final
event of an important tour dedicated to her, with
stopovers in Roumania, Austria and Germany, in the
places where she lived.
The occasion will feature a special evening in the elegant
Venetian venue with soprano Rodica Vica, who
will perform a Lieder Recital composed by George
Enescu and drawn from poetry by Carmen Sylva.
Mara Dorbesco will accompany on the pianoforte.
The Carmen Silva 180 event, promoted with support
from the Bucharest Association for Music,
Art and Culture, the National Cultural Fund of the
Ministry of Culture of Roumania and the Roumanian
Humanist Culture Institute in Venice, features
an extraordinary opportunity for celebrating a
noteworthy figure within European cultural history.

Manin nel 1797, che segnò

Following enhancement work, the
Doge’s Apartment is returning as a
part of the Ducal Palace exhibition circuit.
The showcase recounts the history
of the 120 Doges who ruled the
city, with paintings, sculptures and
documents illustrating the Doge’s
figure and his importance within
the Republic of Venice. The itinerary
ends with the abdication of the last
Doge, Ludovico Manin in 1797, which
marked the end of the Republic.
Throughout the summer, the Ducal
Palace will be open until 11pm (last
admissions at 10pm) every Friday
and Saturday, and on Monday 14 and
Tuesday 15 August.

DI ARCHITETTURA
Il laboratorio del futuro.
Una grande mostra a tema suddivisa in sei parti
con la partecipazione di 89 artisti di cui oltre
metà provenienti dall’Africa o dalla diaspora africana.
Si affiancano 69 Partecipazioni nazionali
suddivise tra i padiglioni ai Giardini, l’Arsenale e
il Centro storico; 9 Eventi Collaterali; un Progetto
speciale in collaborazione con il Victoria and

Sacro e natura in mostra alle Vatican Chapels.
Dieci grandi nomi internazionali della fotografia in
una mostra collettiva pensata per raccontare la

le dieci cappelle permanenti all’interno del parco
della Fondazione Giorgio Cini, realizzate da altrettanti
architetti di fama mondiale in occasione

• SACRED LANDASCAPE. The sacred and nature
on display at the Vatican Chapels.
Taking part in a collective exhibition designed to
illustrate the relationship between spirituality
and nature, ten great international names in the
photography scenario present an introspective
journey with their works among the ten permanent
chapels within the Giorgio Cini Foundation
park, by as many world-famous architects, for the
occasion of the first Holy See Pavilion at the 2018
International Architecture Exhibition.

• MARCEL DUCHAMP. La seduzione della copia.
Prendendo spunto dall'opera "Scatola in una valigia"
capolavoro oggi in parte conservato dalla
Collezione Peggy Guggenheim, questa mostra
presenta, grazie ad importanti prestiti provenienti
da musei e collezioni private, il grande artista del
N0vecento precursore dell'arte concettuale
L’esposizione a cura di Paul B. Franklin, presenta
una sessantina di opere realizzate tra il 1911 e il
1968 conservate oltre che dalla collezione veneziana,
da prestigiose istituzioni museali italiane e
statunitensi e dalla collezione veneziana di Attilio
Codognato.
Si affianca una serie di lavori meno noti al grande
pubblico appartenenti all’ “Estate” dell’artista nonché
a collezioni private.
La mostra sarà visibile al pubblico a partire dal
14 ottobre presso gli Spazi espositivi della Collezione
Peggy Guggenheim, fino al 18 marzo 2024.

• IMAGO IUSTITIAE. Capolavori attraverso i secoli.
Allestita negli spazi del Museo Correr, a partire
dalla splendida Sala della Biblioteca Pisani, questa
mostra si presenta come sintesi artistico-concettuale
del significato di Giustizia.
Attraverso sei sezioni, corrispondenti allo svilupparsi
della Figura allegorica, dagli albori delle civiltà
fino all’età moderna, vengono esposti reperti
archeologici, monete, medaglie, documenti e
opere realizzate da importanti artisti, dal Medioevo
al ‘900.
L’esposizione si conclude con una serie di scene
dedicate ad atti e protagonisti di Giustizia immortalati
come eroi e santi e da una selezione di tele
firmate da grandi artisti che raffigurano episodi legati

• ITALICO BRASS _ Il Pittore di Venezia.
E’ la prima grande mostra che Venezia dedica a
quest’artista, per molti anni dimenticato, un tempo
acclamato protagonista del panorama artistico
internazionale dei primi decenni del Novecento.
Promossa dall’Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere
ed Arti di Venezia e qui allestita, la mostra
si presenta come un ideale, fascinoso percorso
attraverso una Venezia del Novecento, non quella
monumentale che molti conoscono, ma quella
cosiddetta minore, fatta di feste, riti ed eventi
dove l’artista riesce a cogliere, con tipica vena impressionista,
un popolo senza distinzioni di classi.

• MARCEL DUCHAMP. The Lure of the Copy.
Inspired by the "Box in a Suitcase" artwork, a masterpiece
now preserved partly by the Peggy Guggenheim
Collection, the exhibition is presenting
this great Twentieth century artist, a forerunner
of conceptual art.
The exhibition, by curator Paul B. Franklin, is presenting
about sixty artworks created between
1911 and 1968, held by this Venetian collection
as well as by prestigious Italian and American museum
institutions, and by the Venetian collection
of Attilio Codognato.
It is accompanied by a series of less known works
to the general public, belonging to the artist's
"Estate" as well as private collections. The exhibition
will be visible to the public starting from 14
October (until 18 March 2024).

Masterpieces through the ages.
This exhibition, set up within the Correr Museum
venues, beginning from the splendid Pisani Library
Hall, is presented as an artistic, conceptual
synthesis of the meaning of Justice.
Archaeological finds, coins, medals, documents
and artworks by important artists from the Middle
Ages to the 1900s, are on display through six
sections, corresponding to the development of
the allegorical Figure, from the dawn of civilizations
to the modern age.
The exhibition ends with a series of scenes dedicated
to deeds and protagonists of Justice immortalised
as heroes and saints, and a selection
of canvases signed by great artists depicting episodes
related to this theme.

• IL RITRATTO VENEZIANO DELL'OTTOCENTO
Allestita al secondo piano, negli spazi espositivi
della prestigiosa Galleria Internazionale di Arte
Moderna di Ca’Pesaro, questa mostra intende
ripercorrere la traccia dell’importante esposizione
avvenuta nel 1923 ideata da Nino Barbantini,
allora primo direttore del Museo. Rivolta al ritratto
ottocentesco, la rassegna segnerà la riscoperta
dell’arte veneziana di un intero secolo.
L’attuale esposizione che si aprirà a partire dal 21
ottobre, sarà un’occasione unica per ricostruire
quell'evento e per poter ammirare, di nuovo riuniti,
i volti di numerosi protagonisti della società,
dell’arte, della cultura, della vita, di un territorio
che dal capoluogo veneto si estende fino al Friuli

• L’ORIZZONTE DEGLI EVENTI di Paolo Pellegrin.
Allestita nel nuovo Centro espositivo delle Stanze
della Fotografia, nato per un'iniziativa congiunta
tra Marsilio Arte e Fondazione Giorgio Cini, questa
mostra presenta oltre 300 scatti del noto fotografo
romano impegnato attraverso i suoi reportage a
documentare i principali eventi del nostro tempo.
Considerato tra i maggiori fotografi italiani viventi,
membro dell’agenzia Magnum dal 2005, si è affermato
come vincitore di undici edizioni del World
Press Photo Award.
Si affianca, allestita al primo piano, la mostra
TAROCCHI di Pino Settanni, noto come “pittore
con la macchina fotografica”:
La mostra si compone di 78 fotografie che esprimono
la poetica artistica del fotografo, attraverso
il ritratto, la teatralità della scena e il colore.
Entrambe le esposizioni, curate da Denis Curti
e Annalisa D’Angelo, resteranno visibili fino al 7

• ITALICO BRASS_The Painter of Venice.
It is the first major exhibition dedicated by Venice
to this artist, forgotten for many years, once an
acclaimed protagonist of the international artistic
scene in the early decades of the Twentieth C.
Promoted by the Veneto Institute of Sciences,
Letters and Arts in Venice and here displayed,
the exhibition features an ideal, fascinating
journey through Twentieth-century Venice, not
the monumental one known by many, but the
so-called minor one, made of festivals, rites and
events in which the artist is able to capture its
population without distinctions in class, with his
typical impressionist flair. The exhibition will be
visible until 12 December 2023.

• THE VENETIAN PORTRAIT
IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY.
Set up on the second floor at the Ca' Pesaro
International Modern Art Gallery prestigious
exhibition venues, this exhibition intends to retrace
the important exhibition which took place
in 1923, conceived by Nino Barbantini, at the
time the first director of the Museum, addressing
Nineteenth-century portraits, a showcase that
would highlight the rediscovery of Venetian art
for an entire century.
The current exhibition, which will open starting
from 21 October, shall be a unique opportunity
for reconstructing that showcase, and for admiring
the newly reunited visages of several protagonists
of society, of art, of culture and of life
within a territory extending from the Veneto capital
to Friuli Venezia Giulia. Until 1st April 2024.

• THE HORIZON OF EVENTS by Paolo Pellegrin.
Set up in the new Rooms of Photography showcase
centre, a joint initiative by Marsilio Arte and
the Giorgio Cini Foundation, this exhibition presents
over 300 shots by the well-known Roman
photographer, engaged in documenting the main
events of our time through his reportages.
Considered one of the major living Italian photographers,
a member of the Magnum agency since
2005, he has established himself as the winner of
eleven editions of the World Press Photo Award.
It is flanked by the TAROTS exhibition, set up on
the first floor, by Pino Settanni, known as the
"painter with the camera": 78 photos expressing
this photographer's artistic poetics through portraits,
stage theatrics and colour.
The exhibitions, by curators Denis Curti and Annalisa

percezione del mondo.
Si inserisce nel percorso la nuova coinvolgente
installazione di Arthur Duff, “The Hungriest Eye.
The blossoming of Potential”, un nuovo spazio
collaborativo dove i visitatori potranno partecipare
alla creazione di un’opera d’arte, espressione

Prosegue con un'mportante rassegna a Le Stanze

Museo di Arti Decorative di Praga, presenta sei
grandi maestri della scultura contemporanea in
vetro raccontando l'evoluzione, dopo la seconda

a un utilizzo per la realizzazione di importanti
sculture astratte.

• JULIO LARRAZ. The Allegory of Dream.
Torna in Italia con una importante esposizione
presso la Galleria Contini Arte il noto artista cubano,
autore geniale e poliedrico in grado di affrontare
tematiche diverse, tutte accomunate da
un linguaggio onirico e surreale, ma sempre legato
a temi di attualità.
Il percorso, a carattere retrospettivo, mira attraverso
un’accurata selezione di olii su tela, disegni
ed acquerelli realizzati dagli anni ’80 ad oggi,
a celebrare la carriera dell’artista attraverso una
serie di capolavori ispirati al surrealismo ed alla

• A WORLD OF POTENTIAL
Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,
the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, a
foundation created by the Generali group with
the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable
persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,
is presented as an experiential journey in which
visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences
which increase their self-awareness and the
perception of the world at the same time.
In the final part, visitors will be able to gather
information about the foundation’s activity and
to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the
programmes (freely chosen) managed by the
Foundation itself.
Arthur Duff’s new installation “The Hungriest
Eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the
circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors
can take part in the creation of an artwork,
expressing their potential.

• BOHEMIAN GLASS: the great masters.
The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important
exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a
long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art
and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration
with the Prague Museum of Decorative
Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary
glass sculpture, recounting the evolution
of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:
from its traditional categorisation under applied
and decorative art, to its employment in the creation
of important abstract sculptures.
Twenty photographs by Josef Sudek from the
Glass Labyrinths series complete the circuit.

Dialoghi contemporanei.
Un artista, un museo, una collezione.
Questa mostra, promossa dalla Fondazione Bevilacqua
La Masa e concepita per gli spazi della
Galleria di Piazza San Marco, presenta l’opera del
maestro piemontese del Novecento (1917-2004)
ponendola in dialogo con quella di giovani artisti
che esprimono, attraverso le loro opere, sensibilità
simili e parallele.

Nella sede veneziana di Ca’ Corner della Regina
la Fondazione Prada presenta questo inedito progetto
di ricerca ideato dal curatore Dieter Roelstraete:

tempo meteorologico nel mondo dell’arte visiva,
ideale premessa per affrontare l’emergenza climatica
in corso.
Il percorso della mostra si compone di una cinquantina
di opere di artisti contemporanei e una
selezione complementare di lavori storici completati
da una serie di approfondimenti scientifici.

Allestita negli spazi di Palazzo Grassi questa mostra
presenta in prima mondiale una serie di opere

Collection. Si tratta di oltre quattrocento immagini
realizzate da 150 artisti di rilievo internazionale
che percorrono in un emozionante percorso

hanno attraversato il XX secolo, dagli anni Dieci
fino agli albori degli anni Ottanta.
Al nucleo di immagini storiche si affianca in un
ideale dialogo “Chronorama Redux”, un progetto

opere di “Chronorama” attraverso i lavori di quattro
artisti: Tarrah Krajnak, Eric N. Mack, Giulia Andreani

The Allegory of Dream
This well-known Cuban artist, an inventive and
multifaceted author capable of dealing with
diverse themes, all having a dreamlike, surreal
language in common, but always connected to
topical issues, is back in Italy with an important
exhibition at the Contini Arte Gallery.
The circuit, a retrospective one, aims to celebrate
the artist's career through an accurate selection
of oils on canvas, drawings and watercolours
created from the Eighties to our day, through a
series of masterpieces inspired by surrealism and
metaphysics.

An artist, a museum, a collection.
This exhibition, promoted by the Bevilacqua La
Masa Foundation and conceived for the venues
of its Saint Mark Gallery, presents the opus by
this Piedmontese master of the Twentieth century
(1917-2004) in a dialogue with young artists,
who express similar and parallel sensibilities,
through their own artworks.
The exhibition, developed over six sections, and
visible until 12 November, will herald the upcoming
celebrations for the 10th anniversary
from the opening of MEF (Ettore Fico Museum)
in Turin.

Located within the venues of Palazzo Grassi,
this exhibition presents a series of photography
works in world premiere from the Condé Nast
archives, partly acquired recently by the Pinault
Collection.
It features over four hundred pictures created
by 150 important artists at an international level,
tracing an exciting path through events, social
phenomena and celebrities spanning the 20th
century, from the 1910s up to the early 1980s.
This nucleus of historical pictures is accompanied
by an ideal "Chronorama Redux" dialogue,
a project offering a contemporary viewpoint on
the "Chronorama” artworks through the work of
four artists: Tarrah Krajnak, Eric N. Mack, Giulia

• ROSALBA CARRIERA. Miniature su avorio.
E’ stata definita come l’artista italiana più celebre
nell’Europa del Settecento. Oggi, la Fondazione
Musei Civici di Venezia, nella splendida spazi di
Ca’Rezzonico, sede del Museo del Settecento
Veneziano presenta quest’artista con una retrospettiva
di 36 opere, accompagnate da pastelli,
documenti, disegni, stampe, provenienti da propri
archivi e da altre istituzioni e collezioni private.
Si tratta di un’opportunità quanto mai rara, proprio
nell’anno in cui ricorrono i 350 dalla nascita
dell’artista, per ammirare una raccolta considerata
tra i classici dell’arte del Rococò.

Clima e persone.
Promossa e allestita quale progetto espositivo
dalla sede di EMERGENCY di Venezia (Giudecca
212) con la collaborazione del fotoreporter e
ambasciatore del clima, Simone Padovani questa
mostra visualizza attraverso fotografie, mappe,
info-grafiche e un’installazione, i cambiamenti
climatici e i suoi effetti sugli spostamenti delle
persone.
In esame quindici Paesi, tra cui l’Italia, dove EMER-
GENCY opera o da cui molte persone si muovono
per raggiungere l’Europa, anche a causa di fenomeni
ambientali estremi.

Onomatopoeia Architecture.
Concurrently with the Architecture Biennale,
this original retrospective is being presented at
Palazzo Franchetti, addressing a unique theme
by this innovative Japanese architect: onomatopoeia,
that is, the act of creating or using words
including sounds similar to noises they refer to.
Visitors shall be encouraged to discover the
sounds of various materials through the display
of some models of his most famous buildings,
expressing his ideal of sustainable architecture.

She has been defined as the most famous Italian
female artist in Eighteenth-century Europe.
Today the Venice City Museums Foundation is
presenting this artist with a retrospective featuring
36 artworks at the splendid venue of Ca’
Rezzonico Venetian Eighteenth-century Museum,
accompanied by pastels, documents, drawings
and prints, from its own archives and from

maps, info-graphics and an installation. Fifteen
countries are under scrutiny, including Italy, countries
where EMERGENCY operates or from where

sull’opera del maestro russo del Novecento

• 37. WIZZ AIR VENICE-MARATHON
Stra (Riviera del Brenta) - Venezia: 22 ottobre.
Classico appuntamento con una delle più importanti
maratone italiane sviluppata su un suggestivo
tracciato che dalla splendida cornice antistante
la Villa Pisani di Stra accompagnerà gli atleti
fino alla Piazza di San Marco.
Il percorso della gara si snoderà attraverso la suggestiva
Riviera del Brenta, i centri di Marghera e
Mestre e il Parco di San Giuliano per sfociare in
laguna dal Ponte della Libertà.
Qui gli atleti passeranno per le fondamenta delle
Zattere (lungo il Canale della Giudecca) per raggiungere
Punta della Dogana dove, da un ponte
galleggiante, attraverseranno Il Canal Grande per
raggiungere Piazza San Marco e infine il traguardo
in Riva Sette Martiri.
Nel programma della giornata si inseriranno:
- ExpoVillage, la fiera mercato dedicata allo sport
e al tempo libero presso il Parco di San Giuliano;
- Family Run Mestre, una gara non competitiva
dedicata a ragazzi e famiglie;
- VM10K, la corsa non competitiva aperta a tutti
negli ultimi 10 km della maratona con partenza da
Parco San Giuliano e arrivo in Riva Sette Martiri.

• WIZZ AIR VENICE-MARATHON
Stra, Brenta Riviera - Venice: Sunday 22 October.
37th edition of one of the most established Italian
marathons.
The race itinerary, which will depart from the
splendid framing of the (formerly royal) Villa
Pisani at Stra, will wind along the suggestive
Brenta Riviera, the centres of Marghera and Mestre
and the Park of San Giuliano, reaching Venice
along the Ponte della Libertà. Here athletes will
run on the Zattere quaysides, reaching Punta della
Dogana, where they will cross the Grand Canal
over a purposely-built floating bridge.
The programme also features various collateral
events including the VM10K, a non-competitive
race open to all in the final 10 kms of the marathon.
The initiatives also include the VM Charity
Program, a programme supporting projects and
activities aimed at solidarity.

Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici
di Venezia nota con l’acronimo
MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre
700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio
culturale della città.
Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico
sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso
importanti mostre d’arte.
Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,
di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…
L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo
biglietto o tramite il sistema del circuito
“Museum Pass” o del percorso integrato dei
“Musei di San Marco”.

della Cultura – Direzione regionale Musei -

la basilica di San Marco, con il suo
prezioso museo, le monumentali basiliche
dei Frari e dei SS Giovanni e Paolo; le Scuole
grandi, veri scrigni d’arte, di San Rocco, di
San Giovanni Evangelista, dei Carmini, di San
Giorgio dei Greci; e ancora, tra i musei, quello
Ebraico e quello Ellenico.

VENICE AND ITS MUSEUMS
Few cities in Italy (and in Europe) may boast a museum scenario
like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes
within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral
part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its
centuries of history.
But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract
one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how
to find your way around.
Information in detail follows instead about the major ones.
City Museums
Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation
known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of
the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.
Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by
MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.
They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…
Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the
“Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums”
integrated circuit.
State Museums
Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these
museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional
Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system
featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the
Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery
in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the
Brenta Riviera.
Other museums
This section lists privately-managed museums or
ones run by individual Foundations. We may here
mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection;
the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.
Churches, Devotion Schools
and religious museums
Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient
town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.
Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint
Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental
basilicas of the Frari and of Saints Giovanni & Paolo;
the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the
Carmini, San Giorgio dei Greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish
and the Hellenic ones among the museums.
Museums and Villas on the territory
The Museums spread over the Venetian hinterland
territory are many, and important. In addition there
are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid
architecture, art and landscape. As with the museums, this
scenario is also quite vast. We are (unfortunately) mentioning
just a part.

Un itinerario dedicato alla storia della musica a
Venezia è una scelta tra le più interessanti e coinvolgenti.
Sicuramente vengono in mente il nome
di Antonio Vivaldi e le sue celebri composizioni,
insieme al celeberrimo teatro La Fenice. Ma
quanti sanno che la musica si rivelò essere una
delle principali fonti di finanziamento per le strutture
assistenziali nella Venezia dei Dogi? E che si
parla di musiciste e cantori donne in un’epoca in
cui alle donne era proibito esibirsi in pubblico?
Rivoluzionaria. Così fu infatti Venezia nel corso
del XVI secolo nel creare un sistema di assistenza
sociale per occuparsi dei bisognosi e dei più fragili.
Dagli orfani ai più indigenti, agli ammalati, gli
Ospedali si specializzarono ad affrontare diverse
emergenze socio-sanitarie grazie a una rete di
mutuo soccorso che coinvolse più strati della società
veneziana. Diversamente da altre città infatti,
a Venezia non nacquero grandi istituti che si occupavano
di varie emergenze, piuttosto ci furono
iniziative gestite dal privato, mirate ad affrontare
difficoltà specifiche. Innovative furono anche le
azioni atte a raccogliere fondi, dalla tradizione
musicale impartita alle ospiti femminili agli investimenti
nell’arte e nell’architettura. Questo itinerario
vi porterà alla scoperta dei tre Ospedali
veneziani: la Pietà e quindi la storia di Antonio Vivaldi
e delle Putte, il complesso dei Derelitti, con
il gioiello della sala della musica e l’Ospedale dei
Mendicanti con la sua chiesa seicentesca.
MUSIC AND SOLIDARITY IN VENICE
When visiting Venice, consider an itinerary discovering
the unique musical heritage of this city. You
have certainly heard of Antonio Vivaldi, or of the
most celebrated opera house, the Fenice Theater.
But did you know how music in Venice financially
supported the social assistance network?
Over the course of the sixteenth century, Venice
revolutionized welfare assistance for the
most vulnerable and needy members of society.
The city’s various welfare institutions, called
ospedali, specialized in caring for those with
specific health or social needs, from orphaned
infants to homeless and impoverished adults,
and were supported by people from all levels of
society. Reaching its climax in the middle of the
18th century, innovative fund-raising initiatives
included concerts laid on by female choirs and orchestras
of the ospedali, which attracted visitors
from near and far. Music accompanied the holy
services held in the churches connected to the
institutes. Special music events with a profane
program were also organized turning these institutes
not just in a sort of music conservatories,
but allowing them to compete with the famous
theaters present in Venice at that time. Thanks
to private bequests and generous donations, the
ospedali acquired impressive building complexes
designed by leading architects and richly embellished
with fine art. This itinerary uncovers three
of Venice’s ospedali: the Pietà, famously associated
with Antonio Vivaldi, the Derelitti, and the
Mendicanti.

A VENEZIA
Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine
di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al
mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.
Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la
terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).
Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della
sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.
La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al
1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.
Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via
terra… sarà una svolta epocale.
Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.
GETTING TO VENICE
Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration
that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.
Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call
everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.
However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration
date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…
it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA
PIAZZALE ROMA
E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia
dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:
il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale
AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche
alle biciclette).
Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno
ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte
della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento
al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano
con la terraferma.
Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi
pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano
Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,
quello di Tessera e di Treviso.
Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega
inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.
L’ISOLA DEL TRONCHETTO
Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,
ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei
più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare
posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e
motociclette.
Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi
dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico
Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.
Una linea speciale denominata People Moover
collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico
di Piazzale Roma.
L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di
accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di
Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido
e di Pellestrina.
LA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI SANTA LUCIA
Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta
di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte
della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del
Canal Grande.
Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano
le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:
la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal
Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1
e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).
Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata
con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le
linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali
città italiane ed europee.
TERMINALS - ACCESS VIA LAND
PIAZZALE ROMA
It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two
big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage
and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter
also has an area for bicycles).
This large Square, linked recently to the railway
station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione
Bridge), is currently the hub for urban
and extra-urban connection services with the
mainland.
Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services
arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its
metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra
and Treviso.
A monorail service (People Mover) also connects
Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.
THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND
Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,
it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one
of the largest garages in Europe), where almost
4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including
camper vans and motorcycles.
Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops
from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private
lines depart for the heart of the city.
A special train line called People Mover links this
island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just
a few minutes.
The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth
for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service,
linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.
THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION
Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city
at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the
last stretch of the Grand Canal.
Here are the boat stops from where the main
ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1
(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and
the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)
for the northern lagoon and Murano.
All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main
Italian and European cities arrive at this station,
recently modernised and enlarged with services
and shopping hubs.

di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici
sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente
dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su
Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti
sul centro città e le isole.

Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,
about 13 kilometres from town, today
it is the third airport in terms of passenger
numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company
and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a

transport links both by land and by water, managed
respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service
to Piazzale Roma), and Alilaguna with direct motor-launches
to the city centre and its islands.
Several airlines operate there, with a large network
of national and international flights.
ANTONIO CANOVA AIRPORT - TREVISO
Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,
thanks to major investments which have recently
expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport
is effectively one of the major airports in the
Veneto region.
Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso
and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it
is a base for one of the leading international Low
Cost companies. Managed by the same company
as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city
by an Atvo Shuttle busline.
NICELLI AIRPORT - LIDO OF VENICE
One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly
preserved example of 1930s architecture,
the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian
commercial airport, and deemed by a special
ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport
areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub
for helicopters and small charter and private
planes with propeller engines.
Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be
reached by water with private taxis or by the
ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.
La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte
- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,
non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che
piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.

Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano
da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la
funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli
ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.
Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse
spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PUBBLICO
ACTV
E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.
La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto
della città, comprese le isole maggiori.
Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di
Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.
Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una
spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del
Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella
di Pellestrina.
Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”
puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via
d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi
a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento
acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo
allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

ALILAGUNA
La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento
acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti
focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale
Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e
di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.
La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro
linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da
un colore.
I biglietti si possono acquistare oltre che online,
presso le biglietterie Alilaguna.

MOVING IN VENICE
The opportunities for getting around and discovering
Venice are many.
A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -
thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.
But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage
and, last but not least, the physical impossibility
of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,
as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to
board a transport vehicle.
There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the
lagoon city… nor bicycles.
Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli
(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)
and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act
as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles
worldwide, which has characterised people’s
transport along the city canals for centuries: the
gondola.
Here are a few notes for those who, having just
arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE
ACTV
It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.
Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including
its major islands.
Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma
terminal to its metropolitan city.
Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to
the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further
on to Pellestrina island.
Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”
transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered
vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand
Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution
and favouring a wave motion reduction at the
same time.

ALILAGUNA
This company was born as a water-link service
between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in
town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway
terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,
Lido and Murano islands. The navigation
network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),
each marked by a colour.
Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,
as well as online.

IL TRAGHETTO SU GONDOLE
Non molti visitatori sanno che al servizio turistico
offerto dalle classiche gondole, si aggiunge il servizio
delle cosiddette gondole “da parada”, cioè
di quel tipo di gondola dedicata a far da spola da
una riva all’altra del Canal Grande.
Antica istituzione, la gondola da traghetto è una
versione “popolare” della gondola oggi usata per
il turismo. Priva di ornamenti e condotta da due
rematori, offre la possibilità - decisamente meno
costosa - di provare l’ebbrezza di un passaggio a
pelo d’acqua lungo la più famosa via d’acqua al
mondo.
Il servizio, reso possibile grazie ad un accordo tra
il Comune di Venezia e l’Associazione gondolieri,
viene svolto tra le due sponde del canale attualmente
da cinque stazi (approdi): Dogana, Santa
Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon, Santa
Sofia.Il costo a tratta è di € 2,00 (o.70 con carta
Imob).
GONDOLA FERRIES
Not many visitors know that in addition to the tourist
service offered by classic gondolas there is the socalled
gondola “da parada” service, that is, a type
of gondola used for shuttling from one Grand Canal
bank to the other.
An ancient tradition, the gondola-ferry is a “downto-earth”
version of the gondolas used nowadays for
tourism. With no decorations and guided by two rowers,
it offers a - much less expensive - opportunity for
experiencing the thrill of passage at water-level over
the most famous waterway in the world.
This service, made possible thanks to an agreement
between the Venice Municipality and the Gondoliers’
Association, is currently carried out between the two
banks of the canal from five stazi (stations): Dogana,
Santa Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon,
Santa Sofia: the cost for one-way is 2.00 € (70 cents
with an Imob card).

su motoscafi veloci chiamati “lance” e contraddistinti

Le tariffe sono, secondo regolamento del Comune
di Venezia, uniche per tutte le società, e il
servizio è accessibile presso le stazioni comunali
Taxi, o qualsiasi pontile pubblico o privato chiamando

part to the next in the shortest possible time, the
best solution is a taxi.
Here too the hubs are the respective stazi (stations)
