WORLD SECURITY REPORT 2023
Economic unrest, the biggest security Hazard facing companies in Europe
On Monday, the 11th of October, Allied Universal
and G4S published the first-ever World Security
Report - a groundbreaking piece of research that
documents the opinions of 1,775 chief security
officers (CSOs) from 30 countries at large, global
companies with total revenue of more than $20
trillion.
Economic unrest is expected to be the biggest
security-impacting hazard businesses in Europe will face in the coming year, according to the ‘World
Security Report’ published by G4S.
In Europe, 447 CSOs from eight countries were surveyed: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia,
France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Economic unrest is predicted by 42% to be the biggest security-impacting hazard, a jump of nine
percentage points compared to the previous year.
The Netherlands is anticipated to be most impacted by 49% of those surveyed, followed by Belgium
at 48% and Germany at 44% in the next 12 months. CSOs from Estonia ranked it lower than any
other country, at 31%.
With the financial uncertainty caused by this, security leaders anticipate an increase in the number
of threats. Economic criminals will be the group that causes the most incidents in Europe in the
next year, anticipated by 46% of those surveyed, up from 40% in the previous 12 months.
Belgium and Denmark are likely to be impacted more than any other country in Europe, according
to 52% of respondents.
Stephane Verdoy, Regional CEO of G4S Europe, said: “More than ever before, security
leaders will face multiple risks and threats that are caused by geopolitical tensions and economic
pressures.
Russia’s illegal invasion in Ukraine last year has sent shockwaves of disruption that are worrying
security leaders. The expectation of rising economic unrest and disruption to energy supplies
compared to the previous 12 months demonstrates this.
With every Chief Security Officer's top priority being the safety and security of their employees,
customers, data and assets, it’s encouraging to see that four in 10 anticipate their security budgets
will significantly increase.”
Insider Threat
Picture a security threat. You think of an attacker
coming from the outside, right? But what if the attack
comes from within? Insider threats are a serious
security risk we can’t ignore.
An insider threat is someone who exploits their
authorised access for unauthorised purposes. They can
get their hands on protected, valuable areas and
information.
According to Verizon’s 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report, insiders caused 22% of security
incidents. These incidents cost organisations millions. They also lead to exposure of sensitive customer
and company data.
A global cybersecurity study reported that insider threats cost an average of $15.4 million per year.
Plus, over the last two years, the cost and frequency of insider threats has increased. This problem is not
going away, and it’s getting worse.
>> Read this guide and discover insider threats and their many different aspects.
Sustainable Security
After all, there’s only one earth and striving for
sustainability will help preserve the planet and its
resources for future generations.
But it’s not always easy and the security industry faces its own unique challenges when it comes
to sustainability.
Discovering sustainable solutions to these problems and designing sustainable security
solutions will require an abundance of one of the earth’s most precious resources:
CASE STUDY
Food defense in Denmark
The Challenges: Overview
Toms Gruppen A/S is a well-known
Danish chocolate and candy manufacturer
with two large factories just outside of
Copenhagen. Nearly a decade ago, G4S
provided security services for Toms
before the customer chose to go in
another direction and switched services
to another supplier.
When it comes to security, Toms has
exceptionally high standards and places a
large emphasis on security guarding at its
two large-scale production facilities. The
company also has an eye for efficiency
and had formulated an idea of
implementing a new food defense strategy
in the interest of eliminating production
disruptions.
The challenge of implementing this new
heightened security programme caused
Toms to seek out a new security supplier
that could meet its quality requirements.
This search resulted in a re-engagement
with G4S.
The Goals
The first goal was to ensure all security
vulnerabilities in the existing system were
identified and that a plan would be put in
place to correct them. This would take
precedence, as expanding and building on
a flawed system still leaves holes in the
system that could be exploited.
Toms had a vision of using elements of
the current security system and
expanding them to meet the needs of the
new food defense strategy. This would
mean creating custom solutions that use
the existing system as a base, which
would cut back on expenses compared to
replacing the entire system.
With these goals in mind, G4S set out to
devise a tailor-made solution that would
meet the client’s requirements from both
a quality and cost perspective.
The Solution
G4S decided that the best solution would
be to secure the perimeter of the
production facilities. This was
predominantly done using technology in
order to reduce guard headcount, which
would help reduce security costs.
The perimeter security system used
Toms’ existing intrusion alarm system in
order to cut costs further. The intrusion
alarm system was just one component of
the perimeter security solution, along
with:
The Results
G4S was able to meet the customer's expectations from both a quality and cost perspective. The new
system provided a modern solution without breaking the bank, thanks to the decision to build on
some existing elements, such as the intrusion alarm system.
Due to the perimeter security system and access control system, G4S was able to significantly reduce
the presence of security guards at the facilities. Rather than security guarding for a full workday, a
reduced staff would only be needed on-site thanks to the updated security system. This reduction
significantly lowered operational costs.
Where Value Based Selling meets Value
Based Procurement
At any organization dealing with complexity, it is crucial to tailor solutions that meet your unique
needs. By providing a platform that allows for a “value beyond the price” relationship, customers
are given a reason to remain loyal over time, knowing that their needs and priorities are
understood. Therefore, it is important to understand how to effectively discuss key value
propositions that a trusted provider can offer. This paper aims to bring awareness for the valued
customers of G4S on how Value Based Selling and Value Based Procurement go hand in hand,
particularly around Sustainability, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Cybersecurity.
Sustainability
As organizations around the globe are increasingly recognizing the value of environmentally
friendly products and services, it is imperative to recognize and communicate practical,
sustainable solutions.
We at Axis have seen an increase in the market demand. As an example, not only G4S, but
other integrators along with End Customers have requested EcoVadis ratings from Axis. We
have also created materials that can assist in the advisory process when it comes to discussing
Sustainability. Here you can find more information on Sustainability at Axis. Neither a
company, nor its employees should be “green washing”, but rather working together with
their trusted partners to ensure upstream and downstream sustainability compliance. This is a
very challenging endeavor and one that needs to be spoken about openly, as we are all facing
the same complexities. Our partners and/or customers cannot put a simple check mark on a
KPI list, but rather prefer to work with trusted partners that understand their problems and
have an intrinsic desire to solve them. It is beyond this check mark that the value-based
procurement conversation occurs. Where multiple experts, from various teams, need to sit
together around a table and the conversation is not around price, but rather the value that
comes from exploring, exposing and solving real problems that exist throughout the supply
chain.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
While the price of the product or service on purchase is a critical factor for you, long-term
solutions for reducing recurring expenses have become a focal point for discussion and
consideration. Prioritizing TCO in our solutions is vital in ensuring long-term cost savings. It is
important to provide customers with well-articulated TCO models that demonstrate the
potential savings ensuring they value the benefits beyond the short-term price.
Having spoken to various procurement persons, the era of Value based
Procurement (VBP) is here. Even though this topic may appear to be complex
to communicate, rest assured, in a world of constant connectivity and
integration, the TCO discussion of “for how long will this work at peak
performance with minimal capital input” is here.
P9
ACADEMY NEWSLETTER Q3-2023
Here you will find some great tips on how to look at TCO modeling. And here you can find
more information on TCO.
Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity has become increasingly crucial in the digital era specifically to protect your
critical infrastructure from cyber-attacks and for compliance. Axis has cybersecurity built into
its DNA. Our solutions provide customers with peace of mind and efficient cyber-defense
benefits that protect your assets.
And here you can find more information on Cybersecurity. This topic, just like Sustainability
and TCO, is a complex one and once again require that the Sales teams at G4S work hand in
hand with your procurement team as the magnet and leaders that bring multiple experts
around a table. For example, here you will find IT Directors talking to Security Directors
along with design teams. The outcome of which is that your procurement team has the right
information, understands the true risks, needs and benefits and thus can make a value-based
decision.
Throughout our channel we see partners that value environmentally friendly options and
practical, secure, long-term solutions. The active collection and incorporation of data, and
managing this data for a desired outcome is the name of the game. As Axis, G4S, and customer
needs grow, solutions become more unified, yet complex and comprehensive in their offering.
The need to align Value Based Selling with Value Based Procurement is ever more present today
and will be even more so in the future.
