THREE LEGENDARY DOO-WOP 

GROUPS TO PERFORM 

The 205th Topsfield Fair, running Sept. 29 

through Oct. 9, is proud to announce that three of 

the world’s most influential groups in creating the 

rock and roll/doo-wop sound will perform on the 

Grandstand Stage on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. 

Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, The Drifters, and The 

Platters (“Many Voices, One Name”) will perform 

some of their top classic songs including “Yakety 

Yak,” “Only You,” and “Under the Boardwalk,” 

plus many more that helped launch them into the 

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! It’s a free show with fair 

admission. 

“It’s always fun to have classic groups perform 

at the Topsfield Fair,” Topsfield Fair General 

Manager James O’Brien said. “However, to have 

three iconic groups perform on the same stage on 

the same night is going to be extra special.”

TOPSFIELD FAIR TO HOST 5TH ANNUAL HOT DOG EATING CONTEST 

Will last year’s record of 10 

quarter-pound hot dogs in seven 

minutes be broken? 

The 205th Topsfield Fair, running 

Sept. 29 through Oct. 9, is pleased 

to announce its 5th annual Hot Dog 

Eating Contest, sponsored by the 

B’nai B’rith Booth. 

The Topsfield Fair Hot Dog Eating 

Contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 

30, at 3 p.m. on the Trianon Stage. 

Contestants, who must be over 16 

years of age to participate, will have 

seven minutes to consume as many 

quarter-pound Hebrew National Hot 

Dogs (including buns) as they can. 

These jumbo-sized hot dogs are twice 

the size of standard dogs. 

The first 15 people to register beginning 

at 2:30 p.m. on the day of 

the contest at the Trianon Stage will 

participate. Each competitor must 

complete an entry form and a waiver 

form prior to the deadline for entry. 

Contestants can also pre-register online 

at https://www.topsfieldfair.org/ 

event/hot-dog-eating-contest/. There 

is no cost to participate. 

Each contestant will begin with six 

hot dogs with buns. More hot dogs will 

be brought to a contestant during the 

consumption of the last hot dog. Each 

contestant will also begin the contest 

with two glasses of water to drink while 

consuming the hot dogs. Additional 

water is provided as needed. 

The winner will receive $205 from the 

B’nai B’rith Booth at the Topsfield Fair. 

Brandon Wood of Warren, Mass., stands as part of his strategy in the fourth annual Topsfield Fair Hot Dog 

Eating Contest at the 2022 Topsfield Fair. It paid off, as Wood beat 15 other contestants and set a new record 

by eating 10 quarter-pound hot dogs (the equivalent of 20 standard hot dogs) in buns in the allotted 

seven-minute time period.

MRS. ESSEX COUNTY PAGEANT 

2023 SEEKS CONTESTANTS 

The Mrs. Essex County Pageant will 

crown the 52nd Mrs. Essex County 

at this year’s Topsfield Fair. Through 

the years, hundreds of women have 

entered the contest for the honor of 

representing the Essex Agricultural 

Society at local events and serving as 

an ambassador of the Topsfield Fair. 

Not a beauty competition, the Mrs. 

Essex County Pageant invites contestants 

who are married, are currently 

living in Essex County with their 

spouse, and are at least 18 years of age 

to enter. Each contestant will submit 

a prepared food item. This year’s category 

is favorite Thanksgiving dessert. 

Contestants will be judged according 

to the following criteria: general 

appearance, personality, poise, and 

food score. 

This year’s pageant will be held 

in Coolidge Hall on the Topsfield 

Fairgrounds on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 

p.m. Applications can be downloaded 

from the Exhibitor’s Handbook

2022 Giant pumpkin Growers contest winner 

Jamie Graham of Tyngsboro, Mass., broke the Topsfield Fair record at the 2022 New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Contest. Graham’s pumpkin topped the scales at 2,480 pounds. The previous record was 2,294.5 

pounds, set by Alex Noel of Abington, Conn. Noel came in second place in last year’s contest with a pumpkin weighing 2,234 pounds.

TOPSFIELD FAIR JUNIOR KING 

AND QUEEN PAGEANT 

Every year the Topsfield Fair hosts 

a pageant for children between the 

ages of 5–8 to become the Junior 

King and Queen and serve as a representative 

of the fair at local parades 

and other events throughout 

the year. This year’s pageant will be 

held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 

on the Trianon Stage. 

All contestants are asked to be 

dressed in casual attire. Each child 

will be interviewed on stage and 

be judged according to general appearance, 

conduct, and personality. 

To enter your child, download 

an application from the Exhibitor’s 

Handbook section of the fair’s website 

found at https://www.topsfieldfair.org/about/exhibitor-handbook. 

Ticket prices for the 2023 Topsfield 

Fair are $20 each day. Discount 

admission tickets are available at 

www.topsfieldfair.org through Sept. 

28. General admission discount 

tickets can be purchased for only 

$15 plus a $2.25 convenience fee. 

Tickets are good any day during 

the fair’s 11-day run. A three-day 

pass, good any three days, is available 

for $42 plus a $3.50 convenience 

fee. Children under 8 are 

free with an adult admission ticket. 

Discounted ride tickets are also 

available when purchased in advance 

at www.topsfieldfair.org.
