Triple-negative <strong>Breast</strong> <strong>Carcinoma</strong>s<br />

• By definition, all lack ER,PR,HER2.<br />

• Up to 17% <strong>of</strong> breast carcinomas.<br />

• Lack <strong>of</strong> tailored therapies (i.e., for now).<br />

• Much overlap with “basal-like” cancers.<br />

~75% <strong>of</strong> triple-negative cancers are basal-like.<br />

~75% <strong>of</strong> molecular basal-like tumors are triple-negative.<br />

• Frequently affect younger patients.<br />

• More prevalent in African-Americans.<br />

Triple-negative <strong>Breast</strong> <strong>Carcinoma</strong>s<br />

• Often present as interval cancers.<br />

• Shorter survival following first metastatic event.<br />

• Vast majority moderate to poorly differentiated.<br />

• Maybe ~10% <strong>of</strong> triple negative tumors are grade 1<br />

<strong>of</strong> f3( 3 (others th di disagree & report tall llas GGr. 2 or 3) 3).<br />

• Favor hematogenous spread, with a peculiar<br />

proclivity to develop metastatic deposits in the<br />

brain and lungs.<br />

• Some apocrine & pleomorphic ILCs are triple<br />

negative.<br />
