CRISTINA LISOTCaxias do Sul, BrazilDUPLO EM MOVIMENTO, 2023Artwork showcased in the form of video art.0’20’’Artwork in collaboration withthe visual artist Angela Pimentel30Cristina works across the performingarts, visual arts, and body sciences, intertwining knowledge andexperimenting with vocabulariesin these fields. She has a deepfamiliarity with the scent of sewing, having been born amidst over ahundred fabric-stitching machines. Her upbringing was shaped by herparents, an entrepreneurial tailor andan art teacher. Scissors, long weavingneedles, short sharp ones for piercing, glue, paints, fabrics, ribbons, gardens, swings, and her very own dollhousecreated the foundation from whichshe draws inspiration. She engages inknitting, sewing, unraveling, spinning, and a bit of embroidery. She moves, observes, investigates, and sniffs, finding hooks for her attention inthe blooming flowers around her. With threads, she creates loops torelease unspoken words, those thatare like foam, simultaneously hiddenand explicit. She unravels her ownentanglements, striving to clarify anduntangle her reflections on what thehuman body and movement truly meanto her. It is the place where everythingbegins and ends, forming the circle, the cycle, the cylinder. It encompassesworlds between life and death, aboveand below the ground, inside andoutside, right side and reverse. Thebody, embraced by the skin and itsshadow, embodies the incredibleconcreteness of atoms dancing tothe beat of complex and rhythmicreactions, representing our veryexistence. She explores movement todiscover poetry, to experience the joyof sweating, and to engage in a gentleromance with life. It encompassessoftness and delicacy, as well as therequirement of physical strength anda certain power to bend. It spans fromaffection to force, from the very small tolarger than the body, always in relation. The delicate old parchment paper, previously tattooed with punctures, becomes a canvas for embroideredlayers, revealing countless others.Media and proportions highlight theinterconnectedness of the body, memory, and movement, tracingback to the beginning with fabrics, ribbons, gardens, and swings. In aneffort to integrate various media thatinvolve the body, including textilesand performance, and to expandtheir expressive possibilities, Cristinaembarked on a collaborative journeywith Ângela Pimentel, a visual artistwho graduated as a photographytechnologist from the University ofCaxias do Sul in 2018. Ângela’swork has received recognitionthrough awards at the Costa DoceContemporary Art Salon and has beenpublished in Fotodemic magazine inNew York.
