INTRODUCTION

ABOUT US

The RCT Netball League was established to promote

healthy competition and to give Rhondda’s girls and

women what Rhondda’s boys and men have had for so

long now through rugby and football. The concept was

first conceived back in 2017/18, but - thanks in large part

to the awesome support of Riskmonitor through Dave

Dean & Darren James (pictured below) across 2021/22,

2022/23 & 2023/24 - things really took off during 2021/22

as Covid concerns began to subside!

8 Rhondda Netball Schedule

A new level was reaching during 2022/23 which saw over

700 girls and women take part across six age groups -

from Under 9’s to Youth to Seniors - and eleven divisions!

It’s unlikely we’ll be able to cater for more than this for

2023/24 due to limitations on facilities and coaches, but

we’ll be working hard to provide even better leagues

right across our age ranges. With the ability to start a little

earlier than last season, we’re hoping the first games

of 2023/24 will begin during the first week of October. So,

make sure you sign-up quickly!

WELCOME TO 2023/24

Dear Player/Parent/Guardian,

With total participation in the RCT Netball League at 600+ for 2021/22, and 700+ for 2022/23, it would

be true to say that we’ve had a big job on our hands increasing our capacity to provide regular netball

competition for so many girls and women. There’s no doubt the core challenge surrounds “facilities”,

and there’s no question Rhondda needs a multi-court netball facility that can be used rain or shine.

The ability to have 2-3 netball games going on side-by-side would not only reduce pressure on club

coaches, but it would also allow us to pencil in more regular fixtures similar to rugby and football. It’s

amazing to us that for the most part, junior netball throughout Wales still works on a basis of playing

one or two league games every 4-6 weeks throughout each season. However, with 4G facilities - which

are predominantly used for male sports teams - top of Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC’s list in terms of what

it spends money on from sports facilities point of view, there’s very little the RCT Netball League or

Rhondda Netball can do to change the current model for junior netball competition.

All that said, we’re delighted that many of Rhondda’s secondary schools recognise their importance in

helping us provide regular netball competition for so many girls and women, and we’re thrilled we’ll

once again be able to hire Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda, Ysgol Nantgwyn & Porth Community School

for our 2023/24 league games.

The first fixtures in our Senior & Youth Divisions will be on Monday 25th September, and the first fixtures

in our Under 15’s Division will take place the following week, w/c 2nd October. From there, it’ll be

Under 13’s > Under 11’s > Under 9’s according to our facility bookings. And, as ever, the opportunity

is there for players to represent one of the participating clubs!

In order to represent their club in the RCT Netball League for 2023/24, players need to:

Pay a £25.30 (U9’s & U11’s), £28.30 (U13’s & U15’s) or £30.80 (Seniors & Youth, this is included in

Rhondda Netball’s Senior & Youth player package) RCT Netball League Fee OR sell 50/56/60 Halloween

Netball Universe Lotto tickets in support of Rhondda Netball if that’s easier for players/parents

(the NU Lotto will then pay the fees to the RCT Netball League).

Have the latest Club Dress or the 2019/20 previous edition. Dresses are available to order online

@ www.netballuniverse.com (As with the RCT Netball League Fee, if players/parents would find it

easier to sell 66 Halloween Netball Universe Lotto tickets to get a new Club Dress rather than paying

directly, this is no problem).

Please note: Like Wednesday training days at clubs, £3 per participant will be required at each games day.

We are aware that there are players who will only want to train at their clubs and not compete in the

RCT Netball League and this is completely fine for U9’s, U11’s, U13’s & U15’s. However, this option is

not really practical for Seniors & Youth.

Head Coaches are requesting that 2023/24 RCT Netball League fees (and dress orders if required) are

paid by Wednesday 27th September (Friday 22nd September if playing in one of our Senior & Youth

Divisions), so that everything can be organised from our end for league fixtures to start on time. Payments

made after this date can potentially (if max capacity isn’t reached) still be accepted, but may

result in your players not being assigned to a team straight away.

SENIORS & YOUTH

The 2022/23 season saw an incredible 19 teams compete across our

three Senior & Youth Divisions!

In the Premier Division, Tonypandy Youth became the first team to

finish above three-time champions, Ferndale Navys. And, they followed

this up by winning their first Riskmonitor Cup after edging out

Ferndale Whites.

Division 1 saw another impressive double with Ferndale Greens the

standout performers of the season winning the league and plate. They

also secured promotion ahead of Treorchy Whites and Ferndale Youth.

Division 2 had some great games between all the teams, but it was

Tonypandy Blacks, league champions, and Treorchy Blacks, bowl

champions, who shared the spoils.

Three smaller divisions will become two larger divisions for 2023/24,

so brace yourselves for some new rivalries!

UNDER 15'S

Due to the large number of sign-ups, we had to run three divisions

at Under 15’s for 2022/23.

In the Premier Division, Treorchy Blacks overcame an excellent

Porth Blues team in both the league and Riskmonitor Cup to secure

a well-deserved double.

Division 1 saw another Treorchy/Porth battle for top spot, with

a feisty Treorchy Reds team eventually going undefeated to win

the league. The competition was a lot closer in Division 2, where

Tonypandy Greens beat out Tonypandy Whites to win the league.

In the Riskmonitor Plate, it was Treorchy Blues who bested Porth

Reds on a blazing afternoon at Ysgol Nantgwyn.

As with our Senior & Youth teams, we’ll be aiming to create two

bigger divisions for our Under 15’s teams for the 2023/24 season.

UNDER 13'S

With plenty of amazing games and star netballers right across the

18 Under 13’s teams that took part across 2022/23, we couldn’t

have been happier with last season’s divisions for this age group!

In Division 1, a superb Treorchy Blacks team beat out a young Tonypandy

Reds team who themselves narrowly outdid a talented

Ferndale Greens team.

Though Division 2 didn’t provide the same drama at the top end of

the league, following a dominant season from Tonypandy Whites,

some of the games in the middle and lower end of the table were

as closely contested as it gets.

Unfortunately, the Riskmonitor Cup & Plate for 2022/23 had to

be abandoned due to rain, so we’re eagerly awaiting the 2023/24

competitions!

The 2022/23 season saw Treorchy Blacks secure the Division 1

title, whilst Tonypandy Whites (most of the winning team are pictured

There’s no doubting our Under 11’s showed incredible growth

throughout last season, and one can only imagine where the

girls would be right now had they not had to play catch-up after

the pandemic.

Yes, there’s no doubt Rhondda has some promising netball talent

coming through the ranks, and we’re excited to see how our

Under 11’s players develop during the 2023/24 season, where

we’ll also be adding the Riskmonitor Cup & Plate competitions!

Our Under 9’s Division is an amazing opportunity for

Year 3 & 4 girls to have their first experience of healthy

netball competition all whilst creating positive relationships,

having fun and building friendships.

Once again, the Ferndale Falcons, Porth Pythons, Pandy

Panthers and the Uppa Treo posse had a fantastic

2022/23 season, and it was a particularly impressive

season from Treorchy Blacks - pictured below right -

who went undefeated to take the title. We’re super
