DISCOVER SIMCOESimcoe HistoryAfter visiting in 1795, Lieutenant-GovernorSimcoe granted local land to Aaron Culver.A hamlet formed by 1812 but was razed byAmericans in 1814. From 1819-23, Culverlaid out a village which he named “Simcoe.”LYNNWOOD ARTSBuilt in 1850 for Duncan Campbell, Simcoe’sfirst postmaster, the home was donated tothe town of Simcoe in 1902. In 1972, thebuilding was designated a National HistoricSite of Canada and became LynnwoodArts Centre. Today, Lynnwood Arts is anactive, inclusive and accessible space forworkshops, events, children’s programming,and exhibitions. The rail line was abandonedin 1988 and the trail was officiallyopened in 1993. The trail runs almost 12 kmfrom Simcoe to Port Dover with a mid-wayentry point at Blueline Road and St. John’sRoad. The trail is typically covered by treesand shaded from the sun.
