4 Machine Quilting UNLIMITED | July/August 2012

from the editor’s desk
There comes a time in most organizations
when the people involved look around at their
workspace and realize that they are bursting at
the seams! That time came last month for us at
Meander Publishing. Fortunately, Vicki Anderson
was able to find the perfect space for our growing
team right in her backyard in Fort Lupton,
Colorado. We can now have meetings where
not only do we all fit at the conference table at
the same time, but our laptops do, too! A small
kitchen area gives us the ability to stave off hunger (any group that gets
together has to have food, right?) and, most importantly, there is a large
space for our sewing lab, where we can test new products and machines, do
still photography for the magazines and even film visiting quilt artists as
they demonstrate their stitching techniques.
We are happy that much of our work on Machine Quilting Unlimited and our
new, upcoming magazine, Modern Quilts Unlimited, can still be done virtually,
but there is a lot of value in having us all meet together from time to
time, sharing our ideas, excitement and enthusiasm for these endeavors. We
each have our own important parts to play, whether it is publishing, editing,
graphics, advertising, accounting, handling the subscription arena or the
web content, and every area intertwines with the others. I am truly grateful
to be part of such a fantastic team!
I hope that you will share our enthusiasm in this issue as you read about
Linda Taylor’s trail-blazing career in the longarm industry, see the incredible
kaleidoscope machine embroideries of Jeanie Sumrall Ajero, learn
Louisa L. Smith’s quilting secrets and peruse Judith Trager’s latest art quilt
series, based on the Grand Canyon. More design, technique and informational
articles await, and our Sky Quilts, Noteworthy Quilts, and Sue Reno’s
wonderful Jaw Dropper, Ginger, are here for your inspiration and enjoyment.
