International Aquafeed Directory 2023-24

Welcome to the 27th edition of the International Aquafeed Directory & Buyers’ Guide 2023/24, the essential guide for everyone involved in the global aquafeed industry. Last year I wrote about the effects of the war, and the challenges resulting from rising fuel costs, but the industry showed great resilience. The impact of inflation and reduced consumer spending dampened growth in the market at the beginning of the year, but an expected increase in aquaculture production will compensate for a mall decline in wild catches. This edition contains information relating to 450+ businesses and over 850 products, coupled with useful and practical information including the extruder and expander guide. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses that have contributed to the completion of this directory. I also hope that all of our readers across the world remain safe and well.

Last year ASC shared with Aquafeed
the news about the launch of the revised
Shrimp Standard and the new ASC
Chain of Custody (CoC) Module. We
also celebrated the first turbot farmer
to achieve ASC Flatfish certification
and we spoke about the Coastal Habitat
Stewardship – an ambitious initiative to
protect vital mangrove forests.
This time, we highlight the Feed
Standard certification programme
becoming operational, the launch of the
revised Salmon Standard, and the
groundbreaking Key Data Elements
(KDE) process which allows for digital
traceability for shrimp.
On the supply and demand sides,
the group certification programme has
facilitated more than 1,000 small-scale
farms to become certified, and we
have seen a great increase in Scottish
salmon farmers that are seeking
certification.
Last year also marked the release of
ASC’s first Annual Report, “Transforming
Aquaculture”. We also published an
innovative report that looks at how
responsible aquaculture can contribute
to the United Nation’s Global
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As a result, ASC was invited speak at
the United Nation’s Multi-Stakeholder
Forum on Science, Technology and
Innovation (STI) for the Sustainable
Development Goals at the UN
Headquarters in New York, USA.
programme now operational
ASC’s Feed Standard tackles one of the
biggest drivers of environmental and
social impacts of aquaculture – the
manufacturing of feed and its raw
materials. More than 70 percent of
aquaculture production (excluding
algae) is dependent on feed, and it drives
major environmental and social impacts
of aquaculture.
