86 TH ANNUAL CONVENTION
The old Gher Building
The Red River Dance Theatre.
African American Methodist Church.
– Kisatchie National Forest. Alexandria itself sits within the
center of the forest, meaning that whatever direction you
choose will be highlighted with lakes and magnificent timberlands
and fauna.
Alexandria even remembers
to combine the past with the
present with initiatives such
as the Alexandria Historic
Preservation Commission.
Since 2006, they’ve been the
leading charge on the City’s
historic preservation efforts.
They’ve designated three
specific historical districts
and promote the need for
the “preservation of historic
structures, in an effort to
foster community spirit, improve
and stabilize property
values, encourage tourism,
and benefit the economy.”
“Alexandria has been a vital
and welcome member of the
LMA for so many years, that it’s nice to see us returning to a
place so prominent in our beginning,” said LMA Executive Director
John Gallagher. “As you can see, its past is a fascinating
one, and I encourage
each of you to
spend some time
learning more
about it while in the
city. As for its present,
I look forward
to seeing some sites
and contributing to
the City’s economy
during our upcoming
convention.”
