Weatherization Assistance Program
Have you heard of the Weatherization
Assistance Program (WAP), offered by
the Louisiana Housing Corporation
(LHC)?
The purpose of the Weatherization Assistance
Program (WAP) is to increase
the energy efficiency of dwellings
owned or occupied by low-income
persons, reduce their total residential
expenditures, and improve their health
and safety. Considering that high energy
costs could significantly influence
the affordability of housing and often
impact the basic subsistence requirement
of a household, LHC is committed
to helping decrease the energy burden
for many low-income households.
The Louisiana Weatherization Assistance
Program is implemented through contract
agreements with local community
action agencies and local governmental
entities to deliver services to all 64 parishes
in Louisiana.
While household income determines the
minimum requirements for assistance,
the priority population for WAP includes
persons who are particularly vulnerable
such as the elderly, persons with disabilities,
families with children, high residential
energy users, and low-income households
with high energy burdens.
