PAULA LOUW
FYNARTS FESTIVAL ARTIST 2023
10 June - 9 July 2023
Meet the artist daily
FynArts Gallery, 2 Harbour Road, Hermanus

Paula Louw is a full time artist. She works in both two and three
dimensions and exhibits regularly. Since 2006, Louw has been
involved in making art that is conceptual, much of which has to
do the disassembling of machines, typewriters, guns, pianos
and sewing machines. She also paints and draws. Paula has
works in a number of private collections in South Africa as well
as the UK, France, Australia and the USA.
In this exhibition, Paula focuses on the minutiae of the tiny,
fascinating details of both natural and mechanical objects as
well as on the grand sweep of features such as mountain and
shoreline.
She looks at things that have fallen apart and then deconstructs
and transforms them. In trying to make sense of things, she has
moved into new ways of seeing, putting together unlikely parts
and media to create a different whole.
Paula has rearranged their components to create something
new which holds within them a sense of time, history and often
forgotten memories.
