T3 − THE OS
FOR CONSTRUCTION
Right now, EquipmentShare’s fleet is hard at work
on construction sites across the country, from small
jobs to the largest infrastructure projects. On every
jobsite, we’re committed to helping our customers
build with control by providing more than just the
machines and tools needed to get the job done.
We’re using technology to manage our fleet,
helping contractors see the big picture and
work more efficiently.
T3, the Operating System for Construction, is
EquipmentShare’s cloud-connected technology
platform with apps that help your company monitor,
track and manage its everyday operations — from
work done on the jobsite, to drivers on the road,
repairs in the service bay and accounting in the back
office. Every EquipmentShare rental comes with
T3 for the duration of the rental, and we use it to
manage our own fleet of over 150,000 construction
machines. Now, you can put the power of T3 to work
on your own equipment as well.
Easily allocate assets, people and materials. Identify
equipment problems before they stop your work.
Quickly access the data you need to make better
business decisions. Replace the multiple systems,
spreadsheets and ledgers you use now with one
centralized solution. T3 provides versatility across
all OEM hardware, which translates into safer,
more secure and efficient operations. With a single
tool, you’ll be able to manage your fleet the way
EquipmentShare does, with:
• GPS tracking and geofencing.
• Employee time and task tracking.
• Preventive maintenance scheduling.
• Streamlined repair work planning.
• Reporting and analysis tools.
• Utilization management.
• Driver compliance and safety.
• T3 Dash Cams integration for vehicles and
cabbed equipment.
• Parts & inventory management.
Transform your fleet — and your
business — with T3.
Visit T3.tech to find out how to turn your
machines into a tech-powered fleet.
OUR WINDOW
HAS NO ANALOGS
IN THE WORLD.
OUR
WINDOW
IS UNIQUE.
Unlike ordinary curtains,
it uses the space between
the parallel panes of the
window. After a mechanical
rotation, the space gets
filled with an opaque
substance of glass beads
and small homogeneous
granite flakes.
When it comes to “green production” and energy
conservation, we can state that our curtain created
with glass beads is definitely more environmentally
green and energy-saving than all other curtains. There are
incomparably less natural or artificial raw materials and energy
spent on its manufacturing and operation than in any other
case. Glass beads are made of recycled materials. Our curtain
does not need to be washed or ironed, which means that
electrical or physical energy is not consumed, energy is limited
only by the Earth’s gravity. In this regard, it is a real “champion”
among existing competitors.
At the international level, our product first appeared in
2019 in Geneva at the Palexpo exhibition. The presented
prototype caused a lot of positive emotions among attendees.
In Switzerland, we also took the first steps in the search for
international partners.
After the Geneva International Exhibition in 2019, we were
able to improve dramatically. With the help of Georgian
and foreign contractors, simple details are individually
manufactured for us in different countries from different
materials.
The product we are presenting at Houston Build Expo
— June 28-29, 2023 was invented in 2015 by Georgian
businessman and scientist Ivane Chkhaidze and his partner
Gogi Chechelashvili. The first patent was granted in 2015 in
the Republic of Georgia. We have also patented the product in
Japan, China and India. In addition, we are waiting for patents
in Europe and in the USA.
Our window is unique and has no analogs in the world. Unlike
ordinary curtains, it uses the space between the parallel panes
of the window. After a mechanical rotation, the space gets filled
with glass beads, thus playing the role of curtains.
How to Spot the Difference?
Wednesday, 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. | Floor C
CGI Renders has fast become the solution for marketing off-the-plan properties - helping potential buyers visualize what
the finished build will look like while the foundations are being laid. The challenge in visualization often lies in presenting an
image that accurately represents the end result, in a way that doesn’t detract from the overall presentation with cartoony or
unrealistic details. From considering the lighting source, angles, textures, materials, and background, to checking the edges
and making sure there aren’t any unrealistic shadows - an expert eye is vital in presenting professional marketing. In this
seminar, we discuss some of the most common problems we see in renders and how to avoid them when marketing your
property and help to fetch that higher sale price.
Solar is a unique trade in the construction world, and can be very different from other more typical construction trades. In
addition, the solar contractor typically plays a stronger role in design, and consultation with the designers of the ground up
Empowering Others, Overcoming Obstacles
and Driving Trends in South Florida
In the dynamic world of construction,
black women are emerging as powerful
contributors, breaking barriers, and reshaping
the industry’s landscape. South Florida,
in particular, has witnessed a surge in the
presence of black women who are actively
challenging gender and racial disparities.
As these individuals forge their paths, they
encounter various obstacles unique to their
experiences, prompting the need for innovative
solutions to foster inclusivity and opportunity
for all.
NABWIC has been instrumental in empowering
black women in construction by providing them
with a platform to connect, share knowledge,
and access resources. Through its network
Obstacles Faced by Black
Women in Construction
Despite the progress made, black women in
construction face a set of unique challenges.
One primary obstacle is the persistent gender
bias that exists within the industry, often
leading to unequal opportunities for career
advancement and fair compensation. This bias
can be compounded when combined with
racial discrimination, further marginalizing black
women and hindering their growth.
Moreover, black women may encounter
limited access to mentorship and networking
opportunities, which are crucial for professional
development and career progression. The
absence of relatable role models and mentors
can make it more challenging for them to
navigate the industry and overcome barriers.
Recession Protection Strategies to
Increase & Retain Your Working Capital
Without an offensive posture
determined to save your company
money, economic insecurities,
supply chain disruptions,
and managing a challenging
workforce can influence
companies to be more reactive,
adjusting to the ever-changing
rules and guidelines. Now is the
time to be proactive, but most
business owners cannot invest
the hours to become a financial
expert and stay current with the
latest tax strategies.
Businesses need a partner
whose primary focus is to make
companies more profitable. This
can be accomplished through operational,
insurance and tax strategies by minimizing
your income tax so you can maximize your
working capital to strengthen your company.
We want to share 6 strategies you should
consider to increase profitability at your
construction company:
1. Conduct a Utility Audit
A utility audit company can get you refunded
for past overcharges while also saving on
future bills. They will look back three years on
your utility bills and determine if you have any
bills you should not be paying. On average,
80-95% of companies qualify for a refund.
They will also do an annual review for the next
three years to help you find any additional
savings.
2. Apply for the Employee Retention Credit
Employee Retention Credits (ERC) came
out the same time as Paycheck Protection
Program (PPP) loans as an incentive program
to help stimulate the economy during the
pandemic. Originally, you could choose
either a PPP loan or ERC. At the end of 2020,
Congress decided you could get both, as long
as you back out the money received from
your PPP loan employee forgiveness as well
as other requirements. There are two ways to
qualify for the ERC:
1. Drop in sales of 50% from 2019 to 2020
or a 20% decline by quarter for the first 3
quarters of 2019 compared to 2021.
2. A business disruption caused by a governmental mandate. This second method is the area that
our tax attorney qualifies most construction companies as eligible. If you have been told that you
don’t qualify as a construction company, it is worth a call to explain why you might.
3. Rethink Health Insurance
The American Healthcare Act has afforded the creation of programs beneficial
to both the employer and the employee. These unique health insurance plans
incorporate healthy lifestyle strategies that can make you as a business owner
approximately $500 per employee per year. In addition, employees can save
up to $1,800 per year by participating in the healthy lifestyle campaign. We
help connect you to partners who manage all the details and allow you to add
this benefit without changing the quality of care or even changing insurance
companies.
4. Eliminate Credit Card Charges
Credit card fees are changing dramatically. We can help you reduce or eliminate
your credit card fees by using a merchant processing platform that lowers your
monthly merchant credit card processing fee by up to 15-20%. You can also
receive a potential rebate, putting money back in your pocket.
5. Be Proactive with Tax Planning
Tax planning is not planning how much tax you have to pay; tax planning is planning on how
to minimize your tax liability by utilizing tax strategies. We can help you reduce your adjusted
gross income through charitable strategies and tax-deductible investments. This is a more
customized approach and is worth a conversation.
6. Defer Your Capital Gains
If you are selling your company at any point, you could be facing substantial capital gains. We have
strategies to defer capital gains, thereby enabling you to earn investment income on what you
would otherwise pay in taxes. We can also increase FDIC limits on cash balances above $1 million.
To give you an idea on the cost savings if you took advantage of these strategies, we have
included a sample Texas Construction Company with potential savings.
Fictitious Texas Construction Company
50 Employees Monthly credit card sales: $100,000 Utility costs: $20,000
Texas Construction Company
Strategy 1: Utility Audit Savings $24,000
Strategy 2: Credit Card Savings $42,000
Strategy 3: ERC Savings $756,000
Strategy 4: Health Insurance Savings $25,000
Strategy 5: Tax Planning Savings $285,392
Aggregate Savings: $1,132,392
As you can see, there are substantial savings in each strategy that your company could capitalize
on. All of these strategies require no up-front cost to you, other than your time. By shifting to an
offensive posture, you could save your company hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Solar
power is
rapidly
changing
the world.
This is a well-established fact at this point
in time. The question is: Is that relevant
to you and your life? That question, in
short can be answered with the following:
Do you consume electricity? Do you live
or work in buildings that
have roofs? While the
existence of solar power is
not particularly new, there
is something happening in
the solar industry at this
moment that is making
solar power increasingly
relevant to not only solar
professionals, but also
DAREN
GOLDIN
CEO, FOUNDER
OF GOLDIN
SOLAR, LLC.
to anyone in the building
industry, including
construction and design
professions. The reason
that solar is more front and
center for anyone involved
in designing and building buildings is mass
adoption of solar is approaching the tipping
point in terms of its popularity.
The cause relates to a myriad of factors: more
people have seen solar systems firsthand
with friends and family, the technology
has greatly evolved, the economics of solar
are now highly attractive to purchasers,
increased catastrophic weather events have
made people want to take personal steps to
mitigate climate change, to name just a few.
The fact remains that the demand for solar
by the public will soar and any construction
and design professionals that are well versed
about solar will be positioned to participate
in this massive business growth opportunity.
This article is directed to building and design
professionals, including, General Contractors
34 CONSTRUCTIONMONTHLY.COM
(project managers, superintendents,
estimators, and schedulers), developers, and
designers (architects and MEP engineers). It is
intended to shed light on solar and empower
industry professionals with the ability to make
informed decisions about how to integrate
solar power into their practice.
My name is Daren Goldin, I am the founder
and CEO of Goldin Solar, LLC. Goldin Solar
was established in February 2014, in Miami
with the purpose of making the benefits of
solar power accessible to everyday consumers
for both residential and commercial building
owners and operators. In the early days
of solar in South Florida (yes, relative to
South Florida 2014 was still considered the
early days for solar), the industry was quite
new to everyone. City officials such as plan
reviewers and building inspectors generally
didn’t understand the nuances of solar and
how electrical codes applied to solar vs. more
traditional electrical systems. In short, our
role as one of the pioneers of the rooftop
solar industry in South Florida was not only
to design and install solar systems, but it
was also to educate. We educated the public
on how solar can work for them, incentives,
economics, the products, and types of
systems available. We also educated building
officials including reviewers and inspectors
in many different AHJs (there are about 70
different building departments between
Miami-Dade and Broward alone). So much
of our energy spent in the early days went to
informing the officials on how code applied
to solar, we used to joke that we were really
an engineering/permitting company with a
construction arm, rather than a construction
company that did their own in-house
engineering and permitting. The types of
customers that signed up for solar back in
2014 were what economists would refer to as
“early adopters”.
In those days, the economics made sense,
but the payback period for a solar system
was around 10 years, whereas it is closer to
7 years today. But perhaps one of the most
defining characteristics about the early days
of rooftop solar in South Florida was that
the solar industry was growing from the
inside out. Meaning that there were very few
solar providers, few consumers that were
interested in installing solar panels, and the
growth of the industry was slow and steady.
Most general contractors or architects
generally felt like it was a trend and was not
well established enough for them to bother
offering solar to their customers. That is
of-course a tendency to adhere to “business
as usual”, which the building industry is
so famous for. And solar is anything but
“business as usual”. And thus, the early days
of solar in South Florida consisted mostly of
business directly between solar providers to
end-users such as homeowners.
Over the past few years, that trend has
started to change as solar has grown beyond
the early adopters and into the mainstream.
Solar is now better understood by the public.
By now, most people understand what
net-metering is (the mechanism that allows
a homeowner to “buy and sell” their solar
power with the grid as needed throughout
the day with fluctuation in their solar supply
and home energy needs). Most people
understand the economic premise of solar:
invest money upfront, recover the investment
in around 7 years, and quadruple or quintuple
the invested cost over the 25-year warranted
life of the solar system, or finance a solar
system with zero dollars down, and pay back
less to the lender than the amount offset
on the utility bill. In short, most people now
consider solar a no-brainer which has made
this industry take off.
“
The reason that solar
is more front and center
for anyone involved in
designing and building
buildings is mass adoption
of solar is approaching the
tipping point in terms of its
popularity.
Exactly how much is solar projected to
grow over the next few years? Consider
this: there was a time when no new building
was outfitted with a crazy machine that
could change the indoor temperature of a
room. Now, new construction without air
conditioning simply does not exist. That
could very well be the outlook for the solar
industry. For the same reasons that builders
and designers need to understand the basics
of HVAC, solar, which may be as ubiquitous
some day would probably be best also
understood by builders and designers. Here
are the basics you need to know about:
Consider the two types of relevant solar
systems: Grid-Tied and Grid-Tied/Battery
Backed-Up. Note, in both system types,
the home is connected to the local utilities
power grid to utilize net metering. The only
difference is that one system does not include
batteries and one system does. If batteries are
not included, then the solar system must turn
off when the grid is down to prevent harming
a powerline worker, while trying to fix the
downed grid. Therefore, without batteries, the
solar system will save the homeowner money
on their utility bill, but it cannot also function
as a source of backup power. If batteries
are included (Grid-Tied/Battery Backed-Up
system), then the system will serve both to
save money on energy expenses and it will
serve as backup for the home when the grid
goes down for any reason (such as a hurricane
outage).
Timing of onboarding a solar contractor to
a new construction project: This item has
proven to be counter-intuitive to General
Contractors. GCs are familiar with the most
common type of project delivery methods:
Design-Bid-Build. In that type of project
delivery method, a customer, let’s say a
developer that wants to build a house on a
lot they own, hires an architect (designer)
to design the home to their specifications.
They will then take that design and send it
out to multiple General Contractors to bid
the work. The General Contractors will send
out the design to their subcontractors, each
to bid their respective scope. In this type of
project delivery, the design is assumed to be
complete and correct by the architect and
their sub-consultants (structural, MEP, site/
civil, etc.) before it is sent to GC to bid.
However, what happens when the standard
MEP engineers are simply not familiar the
nuances and design considerations of the
solar industry? One of two things: incorrect
design specifying outdated products,
incorrect means to interconnect the solar
system to the home’s electrical system or,
they consult a local solar contractor to assist
in the design to ensure that the plans are
correct before
CONSTRUCTION TECH
REVOLUTIONIZING THE INDUSTRY
AI-GENERATED CONTENT
EDITED BY BUILD EXPO USA
Technology plays a crucial role in the
construction industry, transforming the
way projects are designed, planned, and
executed. Its importance in construction
can be seen in several aspects: increasing
efficiency, improving safety, enabling
sustainable practices, enhancing design and
visualization, ensuring quality control, and
facilitating coordination, document sharing,
and real-time updates among team members.
Overall, technology revolutionizes the
construction industry, driving efficiency, safety,
sustainability, quality, and effective project
outcomes.
Improved Efficiency
Technology streamlines various processes,
reducing manual effort and increasing overall
productivity. Advanced tools and equipment
such as BIM, drones, and robotics enable faster
and more accurate data collection, design
visualization, and construction execution. This
efficiency helps save time, reduce costs, and
improve project schedules.
Enhanced Safety
Safety is a top priority in construction, and
technology plays a vital role in mitigating
risks and ensuring worker well-being.
38 CONSTRUCTIONMONTHLY.COM
Wearable devices, such as smart helmets
and vests, can monitor vital signs and
detect potential hazards in real-time. IoT
sensors and automation can help detect
structural weaknesses or environmental
dangers, alerting workers to take preventive
measures. Additionally, VR and AR can
provide immersive safety training, allowing
workers to practice hazardous scenarios in a
controlled environment.
Improved Design and Visualization:
Technology enables architects, engineers, and
construction professionals to create detailed
3D models and simulations before the actual
construction begins. BIM software allows for
collaborative design and coordination among
various stakeholders, reducing errors and
conflicts during construction. Visualization
tools like VR and AR provide realistic
representations of projects, enabling clients
and investors to better understand the final
outcomes and make informed decisions.
Sustainable Construction
With growing environmental concerns,
technology plays a crucial role in promoting
sustainable construction practices. Green
building technologies and materials, such as
solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and
recycled materials, contribute to reducing
carbon emissions and energy consumption.
Additionally, advanced monitoring systems
can track resource usage, allowing for
efficient management of energy, water, and
waste throughout the construction process
and the life cycle of the building.
Quality Control and Inspection
Technology aids in ensuring construction
quality and accuracy. Sensors and monitoring
devices can measure structural performance,
identify defects, and detect potential issues
like moisture or temperature variations.
Drones equipped with cameras and sensors
enable aerial inspections, capturing highresolution
images and videos for close
analysis. These technologies help detect
problems early on, leading to improved
construction quality and reduced rework.
Project Management and Communication:
Construction projects involve numerous
stakeholders, including architects,
engineers, contractors, suppliers, and
clients. Technology facilitates effective
project management and communication
by providing centralized platforms for
collaboration, document sharing, and
real-time updates. Project management
software, cloud-based storage systems, and
communication tools simplify coordination,
decision-making, and information exchange
among team members, resulting in improved
project outcomes.
There’s More than One Way to
Calculate ROI for Autonomous Work
Improvement in consistency & quality
Because autonomy provides consistent,
accurate and uniform results with much less
variation than a human worker can provide, it
naturally boosts quality, which can improve ROI.
Autonomous technology also prevents
costly and time-consuming rework due to
deviations and reduces the errors and flaws
that result from manual work — both of which
positively contribute to the bottom line.
New revenue opportunities
When autonomous work allows processes
to be completed faster without sacrificing
quality or safety, your team can take on more
jobs — and expand their capabilities. This
opens doors to new revenue possibilities.
“If you’re a construction contractor, simply
having technology as part of your portfolio
can differentiate you and help you stand
out from the pack, which naturally creates
new revenue opportunities,” explains Giri
Baleri, director of product management and
strategic marketing, off-road autonomy, at
Trimble. These new opportunities could come
in the form of your ability to take on more
work, offer new services or present fasttracked
schedules to customers.
Safety improvements
“Autonomy means you don’t have to put
operators in harm’s way,” explains Baleri. “In
construction, we hear that the most common
cause of injury is someone trying to get in
and out of a machine on a site. If you can
minimize the number of times this happens,
you could minimize safety issues and increase
return on investment.
Why Contractors Need Integrated
Construction Technology
Technology is a big investment, and it’s
common for contractors to invest in multiple
systems for different operations to run their
businesses. When these systems are not
integrated, getting the right information to the
right people at the right time is difficult and
inefficient.
Data from FMI and Plan Grid shows that 22%
of contractors saw failure in implementing a
construction technology because it did not
integrate well with their existing technology
and software. Not integrating is among the
top three reasons tech fails, proving that
integrated construction software is becoming a
requirement.
Automation of data flow to connect systems
With integrated systems, you get accurate data
in whichever system you use, as opposed to
translating information between two systems
or referring to stale information that was never
updated manually.
Maximize and maintain investments
Integrated systems maximize productivity and
extend the use of the systems contractors
already invested time and money into
deploying. Integrating allows contractors to
utilize their systems and team members to
their fullest potential.
Maximize efficiencies and simplify processes
When systems are integrated, you spend less
time in each and get to spend more time doing
other activities that help drive revenue.
Integrated software has a powerful impact on
the way contractors operate as an organization
and their ability to gain competitive advantages
over the competition.
