“THE VETTE”
Car owner: Bob Doll
Car name: “The Vette”
Car: 1969 Corvette T-Top Coupe
These photos were taken in the Crossroads District and by the old TWA Building in Kansas
City where there are alot of different murals and areas to get some amazing photos of cars.
Bob Doll is the proud owner of this amazing 1969 Corvette T-Top Coupe. He was actually
looking to buy a Porsche in 2008, when his girlfriends neighbor opened up his garage door and
there was this Corvette. He walked over to the neighbors house to ask him if he wanted to sell
the car. It so happened that the guy wanted to sell the car but first he wanted to give the guy
he bought it from a chance to buy it back from him. So Bob agreed to wait, in hopes that he
would get a chance to buy the car. In February of 2009, Bob happened to notice that the Corvette
was still in the neighbors garage (the door was open). He once again went over to ask him
if he still wanted to sell the car. They ended up working out a deal for the purchase. Bob said this
was the first car that he ever bought and brought it home on a tow truck. It took them about
one to 2 weeks to fix the timing on the car and put a new distributor on it, they got rid of the
aftermarket cooling fan and took it back to original. Every winter he would choose something
to do to the Corvette. After about 7 or 8 years of work the car is where it is at today! When he
bought the car it had 90,000 miles on it, now it has 124,000 miles. Bob enjoys driving the car on
Hot Rod Power Tours, his first one was in 2018, which was 4 days of driving. When Bob attends
the shows and cruises, he really enjoys talking to people about the Corvette while sharing with
them the knowledge of how affordable the older cars are and how easy they are to work on compared
to the cars they are producing today with all of the electronics in them. Bob started going
to car shows back in the 70’s when he showed a bicycle that he built himself at the World of
Wheels show. He has been in love with shows ever since. He would like to give a BIG SHOUT
OUT to all the younger generations to keep informing them about how easy it is to work on the
C2 & C3 Corvettes!
1969 Corvette Coupe
The 1969 Chevy Corvette arrived on the coat tails of critics who had been anything but kind things
to say about the inaugural C3 Corvette just the year before. Although the overall tone of the critics was
marginally more positive by the end of the 1968 model year, GM recognized that they still had a way to go
to fully win over the same people who were so quick to tear the Corvette apart.
CORVETTE DEVELOPMENT
The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of two-door two seater luxury sports cars, manufactured and marketed
by GM under the Chevrolet marque, since 1953. Over the course of eight generations, sequentially indicated
as C1 to C8, the Corvette is noted for its performance; distinctive styling; lightweight fiberglass or
composite bodywork and competitive pricing.
Since its introduction in 1953, the two-seater has steadily moved upmarket. Originally a relatively modest,
lightweight 6-cylinder convertible, subsequent introductions of V8 engines, competitive chassis innovations,
and rear mid-engine layout have positioned the Corvette in the supercar class. The first three
Corvette generations (1953-1983) employed body-on-frame construction, and since the C4 generation,
introduced in 1983 as an early 1984 model, Corvettes have used GM’s unibody Y-body platform. All
Corvettes used front (mid-)engine configuration for seven generations, through 2019, and transitioned to
a rear mid-engine layout with the current C8 generation.
C2 GENERATION
• 1963. The Corvette is a total restyle based on Bill Mitchell’s 1959 Sting Ray race car.
• 1963. First year for the Corvette coupe; only year for the split-window coupe. The Z06 is offered as an
option on the 1963 Stingray (199 built).
• 1964. The split-window design is eliminated because it “intruded into the driver’s rearward vision.”
• 1965. Big Block V8 engines were introduced for the Corvette with the 396 CID L78 option. It was
rated at 425 HP.
• 1966. Factory-installed driver/passenger headrests made their Corvette debut as optional equipment.
First year for the 427 CID engine; up to 425 HP available. Holley Carburetors were standard with all
engines.
• 1967. Optional L88 engine offered (only 20 produced).
• 1967. Standard features of the Corvette Sting Ray included an energy-absorbing steering column,
four-way hazard warning flashers and a dual master cylinder brake system. Much of the exterior trim is
removed or restyled, as well as the hood and fender vents.
C3 GENERATION
In 1953, GM executives accepted a suggestion by Myron Scott, then the assistant director of the Public
Relations department, to name the company’s new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship.
The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the 1953 GM Motorama as a concept car; production
models went on sale later that year. In 1963, the second generation was introduced in coupe and
convertible styles. Originally manufactured in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has
been produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, which is also the location of the National Corvette
Museum.
C1 GENERATION
THROUGH THE YEARS
• 1953. The first full-scale Corvette concept was displayed as a “dream car” at GM’s Motorama in New
York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel in January.
• 1953. On June 30, the first production Corvette rolled off of the assembly line in Flint, Michigan.
• 1953. Production of the 1954 Corvette began in St. Louis, MO in December of 1953.
• 1955. The small-block V8 displacing 265 cubic inches was introduced. Also, a three-speed manual
transmission was available.
• 1956. The restyled Corvette features exposed headlamps, sculpted side coves and rolled up windows.
Factory-installed removable hardtops are offered for the first time.
• 1957. Optional fuel injection and option 4-speed manual transmissions are offered for the first time.
• 1958. First time for dual headlights.
• 1960. The last year Corvette features tail lights formed into rounded rear fenders, and the last with
heavy grill “teeth.”
• 1968. The totally restyled Corvette features an industry first for production cars – “T-top” removable
roof panels. Lines of the new Corvette closely resemble those of the Mako Shark II show car. Headlamps
are now of the “pop-up” design, backlit.
• 1969. The 250,000th Corvette – a gold Convertible – comes off the St. Louis production line on November
19. “Stingray” script is added above the fender louvers.
• 1969. The ZR-1 optional factory-installed racing package is offered on Corvette for the first time.
• 1970. The new LT1 Small Block V8 engine option with solid lifters is introduced and rated at 370 HP.
• 1971. One of the least-changed models in appearance, Chevrolet essentially handled 1971 production
as an extension of 1970.
• 1972. The last to feature both front and rear chrome bumpers, a bright egg-crate grill, side-fender
grills.
• 1973. 4,000 serial numbers were never built, so the serial number ends with 34,464 but production
totaled 30,464.
• 1977. The 500,000th Corvette – a white coupe with red interior – is produced in St. Louis on March
15.
• 1978. The fastback body style marks Corvette’s 25th year of production. The traditional crossed-flag
emblem is replaced with a special anniversary emblem. The special edition of the Corvette is the Indy
500 Pace Car replica – silver and black.
• 1981. Mid-year, production shifted from St. Louis, MO to Bowling Green, KY. This was the first time
a model was built in two locations simultaneously.
• 1982. The first Corvette model year to feature the convenience of hatchback design (introduced with
the Collector’s Edition model). Four-speed automatic transmissions with overdrive is standard, with
no manual transmission offered until well into the 1984 model.
C4 GENERATION
• 1984. The all-new Corvette has a drag coefficient of a 0.34… that’s 24 percent more aerodynamic than
its predecessor. Top speed over 150 MPH.
• 1985. Big news for Corvette is the addition of tuned-port injection of the 230 HP 5.7 liter V8.
• 1986. The first convertible since 1975 is built.
• 1987. Callaway Twin-Turbo engine package introduced (RPO B2K).
• 1988. 35th Anniversary Edition is offered.
• 1990. The Corvette ZR-1 debuts. Driver’s side air bags become a standard feature. Groundbreaking of
the National Corvette Museum in June.
• 1992. Performance of the Corvette’s new 300 HP 5.7 liter V8 engine is so impressive that it’s given
the legendary LT1 designation. The One-Millionth Corvette – a white convertible with red interior,
matching the first Corvettes of 1953 – rolls off the Bowling Green assembly line on July 2.
• 1993. 40th Anniversary package optional with all models – Ruby Red metallic exterior with Ruby
Red interior.
• 1994. National Corvette Museum opens Labor Day Weekend.
• 1995. Corvette paces the Indy 500 for the third time (first in 1978, also in 1986).
• 1996. Two unique special Corvette models are available – a Collector’s Edition and a Grand Sport.
The Collector’s Edition features Sebring Silver paint, Collector’s Edition emblems and an LT-1 engine.
The Grand Sport has blue paint with a white stripe and red “hash marks” on the left-front fender
with an LT-4 engine. 1996. Only 1,000 Grand Sports are made and it was only the second out of three
times in Corvette history that a Grand Sport edition was made. It also provided an alternative for
those seeking a little extra horsepower as 1995 marked the final production year of C4 ZR-1s.
C5 GENERATION
C8 GENERATION
2020. The ‘next generation’ Corvette debuts in Tustin, California on July 18, 2019 and is the brand’s firstever
production mid-engine Corvette. The car features the fastest 0-60 time of any entry Corvette ever —
under three seconds when equipped with Z51 Performance Package. Chevrolet installs a 6.2-liter “LT2”
V-8 in the base Stingray model, pairing it with an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission;
no manual transmission is offered. With the Performance exhaust option, the LT2 engine produces 495
horsepower and redlines at 6600 rpm. The C8 generation convertible comes with a power folding hard
top.
2022. The Corvette is available as either a coupe or a convertible with a folding hard top. The Z51 performance
package is also a must-have as it brings all of the Corvette’s best performance-oriented gear.
The 6.2-liter mid-engine V-8, that makes 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With the dual-mode
performance exhaust the Z51 option also adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential, more aggressive
brakes, and summer tires. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (a Corvette first) is the sole transmission.
It is controlled either by a push-button gear selector on the center console or by using two large steeringwheel-mounted
shift paddles. A manual transmission is not available. It goes from zero-to-60-mph time
of 2.8 seconds and the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph in a car equipped with the Z51 performance
package and the optional FE4 magnetorheological dampers. This Corvette is capable of heroic
handling and delivers big thrills on both road and track.
2023. Chevrolet brings the Z06 back to the Corvette line for 2023. The 2023 Corvette Z06 puts a 670-
hp 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crankshaft behind the passenger compartment. It also includes visual addenda
to separate it from its lesser Stingray kin. The Z06 also offers carbon-fiber wheels as an option. The
20-inch front and 21-inch rear units are stiffer than the standard wheels and reduce unsprung weight. As
in the Stingray, the Z06 sends its power to the rear wheels by way of an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic
transmission.
2024. The Corvette goes partially electric for 2024. The Corvette E-Ray is a gasoline-electric hybrid that
pairs the Stingray’s 6.2-liter V-8 with a front-mounted electric motor to produce a total of 655 horsepower.
That sum allows the E-Ray to hit 60 mph in an estimated 2.5 seconds, per Chevrolet.
“TUXEDO”
Car: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Car name: “Tuxedo”
Car owner: Ken Lee
These photos were taken in a very beautiful meadow on several acres in the local Kansas City
area
at various locations on the property.
Ken Lee is the proud owner of this very sharp looking 1965 Corvette Coupe that he purchased
in 2017. The car had been sitting for about 25 years waiting to be restored to its present
glory. He knew that the car was in pretty good condition mechanically but really needed to be
detailed to bring back the sharp look of the tuxedo black paint on the car. Cats had been sleeping
on the hood and all around the car using it as their “cat tree” where it had been stored. He
purchased the car from a local man in the Kansas City area, who had it restored back in 1984.
At the time it was not a frame restoration, the car really had not been driven enough since the
restoration had taken place. Ken started working on the car, doing various things to it for
about 2 weeks until it was ready to be pulled out of the garage. He kept working on it for an additional
2 weeks to get the car road worthy. Ken really enjoys driving it to the shows and cruises
on the weekends. He enters his Corvette in National level shows. Ken’s Corvette won multiple
back to back 1st in class awards in the spring of 2022 and has also received it’s senior award and
award for driving the car to events. He has been attending car shows since the 70’s with Camaros,
Chevelles and Corvettes. Ken loves the way the car drives when he is behind the wheel. Its
because of how the suspension and brake system provides a “smooth ride” along with the horsepower
of the C2 327 ci engine while also being acoustically quiet. He would like to also give a
BIG SHOUT OUT to his wife.
1965 Corvette
While this small-block engine was an impressive powerhouse in its own right, Chevrolet had definitely recognized
that the direction of the powerplant for the Corvettes would center around engine displacement, and so it was decided
that all other, smaller engines would ultimately be abandoned in the Corvette line at the end of the 1965 model
year. Interestingly, the retirement of the 327ci engine also brought with it the end of the use of fuel injection in Corvettes
for the next twenty years. Cylinders 8, Displacement (cid) 327 ci, Fuel Induction System Carburetor, Horsepower
Car Name: “Dream Weaver”
Car: 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8R
These photos were taken at one of the mural walls in the Crossroads District and near SW
Blvd in Kansas City, Missouri.
Brian Martin is the proud owner of this special ordered 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
C8R. His journey for this car started in 2020 when he wanted a sports car. He was in a deep
discussion with a friend of his when his friend suggested, “why don’t you just buy a Corvette?”
Brian visited several dealerships for the purpose of ordering a Car and putting down a deposit.
Allot of the dealerships were not taking orders due to the loss of production due to Covid. He
finally came across a dealership that would take his deposit, but they told him it would take
about 12 months for the Corvette to be produced. Brian was fine with the delay, he just wanted
the car. They took his deposit and placed the order on December 26th 2020. Patiently waiting
for the car, Brian finally got information 10 months later as he was able to see the option list go
from 2 to 3 thousand dollars to 15,000 dollars over the original price of the car. In November of
2021 the order for the car was confirmed. Once he had received his confirmation, an EF3 tornado
hit Bowling Green, KY area in December 2021 (home of the Corvette factory) and the wait
for the car was pushed out even further. Finally in January 2022 the Corvette was finally built
and shipped. Brian was notified on February 9th 2022 that the car was ready to be picked up!
He began showing the car right after getting it and ended up placing 1st in class 5 out of his first
7 shows. Brian really enjoys doing the car shows and cruises, getting out there, talking to other
car owners and sharing his love for cars since he was a teen!
Brian would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to his Parents for everything that they have
done for him, may they rest in peace - Lee Martin Oct 2017 / Janet Martin Jan 2020.
1965 Stingray
Car owner: Dana Forrester
Car: 1965 Corvette Stingray Coupe
Dana Forrester is the proud owner of this gorgeous 1965
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray in the original Silver Pearl color. He always wanted a big block
coupe Corvette. He bought it from its former owner in Minnesota in January of 1997. The car
had 51,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. Dana really enjoys driving it. He has driven it
in three power tours and to the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) Conventions in
Bowling Green, Kentucky, as well as attending local shows. He really enjoys pulling up to the
shows and idling through a show getting the attention from the sound of the car. Dana is very
proud of the originality of the car. In 2011 this Corvette received the NCRS Top Flight award
at a regional event in Joplin, Missouri, Top Flight means the car is 95 to 97% original from factory.
He has also recently had the opportunity to speak with the person who did the dealership
prep back in 1965 for this specific Corvette that was delivered to a dealership in South Dakota
that sold a lot of high performance cars. He told him the story of the delivery of the car and
there was so much excitement because it was the first time they were getting to see a big block
engine in one of these cars coming off of the trailer and it also having side pipe exhaust (one of
the firsts). When the driver was unloading the car off of the trailer and everyone was standing
around watching in awe as the driver got on the throttle and ended up covering everyone in
dust! They were all just stunned to see how gorgeous this car is in addition to the sound that it
makes was pure enjoyment!
1998 C5 T-TOP
Car owner: Brett Wooderson
Car: 1998 Chevrolet Corvette T-Top
These photos were taken at Lake Jacomo in various locations throughout the lake area. So
many beautiful views and vistas to capture!
Brett Wooderson is the proud owner of this beautiful Red 1998 Corvette with T-Tops. This
Corvette is actually his second one that he bought from his wife’s uncle. The first was a 1995,
that her uncle owned for 30 years but then decided he wanted to a newer model. So he bought
the 1995 vette from him. Then his wife’s uncle soon realized that the 1998 Corvette that he
purchased was way too much sports car for him to handle, so Brett bought it from him as well in
2015. He could not pass up the opportunity to buy it since it is both a C5 vette and Red is his
favorite color. Brett has always loved doing car shows dating back to when he was a teen showing
off his Chevy Nova. He has always enjoyed the conversations and the compliments he gets
on the cars that he has shown. Now that he has his 1998 Corvette the conversations are even
more engaging. Brett does about 6 or more shows per year (weather permitting). There are a
few yearly shows that he attends every year such as World of Wheels, Corvettes in Paradise at
the Lake of the Ozarks and the Elk Lodge show in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Brett would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to his wife Kinzie Wooderson as well as Ken
and Penny Doll!
