The Kayanase Pavillion is an ongoing Design-Build collaborationwith a local indigenous community on the Six Nations Reserve nearBrantford, Ontario. The actual design-build phase of the projecttook place over the course of two semesters with a varying teamof students under the tutelage of John McMinn and local architectPaul Dowling. When completed, the building will serve as a learningpavillion for children from nearby communities to learn about theculture of the indigenous residents on the reserve, including arts andcrafts, history, sports and food. Positioned on a sloping site with aview toward the Grand River, the pavillion will be a simple insulatedwood frame construction with a sloped roof and glazed easternwall braced by shelving for displaying the children’s creations. Thelocal indigenous community was consulted closely at each stageof design. The wall, truss and floor modules were constructed bystudents in the school’s workshop and are in storage awaiting finalassembly.29
