Our lives are changing thanks to new technologies which open new scenarios for the resolution of several
problems.
In this context, LimaCorporate believes that technology should be a support for human beings, not only for
productivity improvements, but also for positive changes in the quality of the working life: stress reduction,
better ergonomics, and safety increases are only some of the advantages offered.
Why did we implement
this technology?
In the second half of 2021, after the relocation of
the Clean Rooms to the first floor of the new plant,
we have clearly seen an increase in both the
frequency and the duration of the movements
needed to transfer production material from one
department to another one, using manually
operated trolleys.
Watching these activities and listening to the needs
of the staff doing this job daily, we have started
studying a way to help them, reduce their stress
and efforts.
Introducing Duilio
Thanks to artificial intelligence, new sensors, wireless communications, and machine learning algorithms,
we are able to build machines that can move without receiving real-time human instructions and that
can follow a defined path knowing what is happening around them and reacting quickly if they find obstacles.
They are known as AMR (acronym of Autonomous Mobile Robot), collaborative, mobile, and autonomous
robots that allow us to:
optimize the internal logistics
improve the ergonomics of the staff, freed up from heavy trolley handling
reduce stress
use more time for value-added activities (e.g., production, autonomous maintenance, quality controls, training, …)
keep the quality of goods, reducing defects due to material handling
These co-bots define the routes on the base of fixed and dynamic reference points, continuously recalculated
to avoid obstacles eventually found on the way and to get to the destination in the best way. This also means
that high safety standards are fully guaranteed since there is no risk of collisions with objects or people.
Not only: LimaCorporate has added emergency buttons and devices to the robot, in order to stop and move it
manually if needed.

How does it work?
From an operative point of view, everything works
in an easy way: each department has got a tablet to
call the robot.
As soon as it gets to the defined area, it can be
loaded with the produced material and sent to the
next user. A visual or acoustic signal informs them
that the robot has arrived at the defined station and
can be unloaded, proceeding then with the activities
defined by the working cycle.
The staff can also see all the missions, both the
executed and the pending ones, or any warning on
the tablet’s display.
In addition to the advantages explained previously, the production flow becomes more linear: the manual
handling of huge quantities of production material performed once per shift is replaced by frequent deliveries
of small quantities between different departments.
With this technological innovation, LimaCorporate makes another step forward in the evolution of the role
of the operators: they do not have to dedicate time to no-value and time-consuming activities, so they can
become smart operators able to use digital technologies that will make the work easier, leaner and safer.
