There are over 40,000 adults in Bradford who do not
have basic qualifications, which is higher than the
national average, and so our Functional Skills, GCSE
and ESOL courses provide key employability skills to
help ensure more of our local population can access
meaningful work and enjoy social mobility.
No matter what your starting point is, our friendly tutors
will work with you at your own pace to help get you the
English, Maths or ESOL qualifications that can grow your
confidence, help you get a job, allow you to support your
children with homework, or whatever other challenges
you want to take on.
Our courses are flexible, with classes running at various
times throughout the day at College and in community
centres.
Lots of our courses are free of charge
for most people - see our fee reduction
information on page 11, or contact
enrolments@shipley.ac.uk to check
your eligibility.
“Functional Skills English at Shipley College is fantastic! The classes are great
fun and you will learn a lot about writing in different contexts for different
audiences. The most rewarding thing about teaching this course is knowing
that obtaining a Level 2 qualification in English (or maths) enables so many
positive work and life opportunities for students. All of a sudden; all the doors
pop open: to apply for university courses, to enrol onto management level
courses at work or college and to apply for ‘dream’ jobs. ”

MATHS GCSE

My course has been amazing because of my teacher Sarah. She has been kind
and patient when helping me learn English. Her teaching is very effective and
I have learnt a lot of new things which I didn’t know in the past. I am now more
confident in reading and writing in English. I can hold full conversations in English
now because of this course.
