• Duane provided an overview of the recent Fin Tech Week, highlighting the positive response
from students and teachers. JaMese echoed the excitement and mentioned the opportunity
for students to explore careers in various fields, emphasizing that a STEM or financial
background is not a requirement. Andrea Lo shared her experience at one of the locations,
mentioning the engagement of students and the workshops on topics like stock market
trading and cryptocurrency. The goal of expanding the program and empowering more
students was discussed, with a focus on increasing the number of participating schools.
• The board discussed ways to create a network through LinkedIn to connect with alumni
and students who have participated in JA programs in the past. CB mentioned the initiative
to have students create LinkedIn profiles in high school. Strategies to encourage employee
and college volunteerism were discussed, and it was agreed that raising awareness,
providing clear communication, and sharing success stories could motivate individuals to
volunteer.
through their networks.
schools and various programs. She highlighted the need for more volunteers, as there is
currently a gap of 6,000 students due to the lack of volunteers.
• The board discussed reasons for employees and colleagues not volunteering, what is
needed from JA to motivate them, and any obstacles preventing volunteerism. Each board
member was encouraged to mobilize 10 volunteers within the next 90 days through their
work, network, family, and friends.
• Promoting Volunteerism and Calendar of Events, Gary suggested creating a dashboard or
newsletter to inform employees of volunteer opportunities, with a flyer that can be shared
within their organizations. The importance of telling success stories and rethinking patterns
of volunteerism was emphasized.
• Adrian suggested sending a calendar of events and needs to the board, which can be
shared with their respective networks.
• Various ideas were discussed to improve communication and encourage volunteer
participation.
Product Leader
Salesforce
Devra is an accomplished product leader with over 20 years of experience
driving innovation in CRM and enterprise technology. She was named a
“Service Innovator" by the Consortium for Service Innovation. Currently,
Devra leads the Core Service Platform teams in Service Cloud at
Salesforce. She has led innovation with various product teams in Service
Cloud for the last 9 years which has grown from a multi-million dollar
business to a $7B business and has become the largest line of business at
Salesforce. Devra currently leads product teams that are instrumental in
shaping the foundation of Service Cloud, including Case Management,
Agent Experience, Knowledge Management, Incident Management, Self
Service, Collaborative Service, and Service Automation. This foundation is
critically important to the company’s Generative AI strategy and reimagination
of service delivery with Service GPT.
back to their communities and are empowered to be citizen philanthropists
which can be seen in the company’s 1-1-1 model donating 1% of its profit,
1% of it product, and 1 % of its employees’ time to help the community.
This business model has led to Marc Benioff, co-founder and CEO of
Salesforce, to say that “business is the greatest platform for change."
Devra is inspired by this model and has been an active volunteer for Junior
Achievement for the last several years, including mentoring at JA SHE
Leads events and as a mentor for the Junior Achievement Company
Program with teams hosted at Salesforce.
Devra is an alumni of Junior Achievement participating in the JA Company
Cruz where she majored in Community Studies, a major focused on social
justice and strategies for achieving social change including a communityfocused
civic engagement model that was a pioneer in the field of
experiential education. This program fueled Devra’s lifelong commitment to
give back to the community which she does regularly on her own, with her
co-workers, and with her husband and two teenage daughters.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS
UPDATE
Organizing partnerships by People, Profit, and Presence is key to Junior Achievement's
strategy in Northern California because this approach allows JA to build meaningful and
impactful relationships with our partners.
PEOPLE PROFIT PRESENCE
The people in our partnerships
are the foundation of what we
do. By developing strong
relationships with educators,
volunteers, students, and
business leaders, we can work
together to prepare young
people for the future. Through
working with these groups, we
can identify the specific needs
of schools and communities
and create programs that align
with those needs.
We believe that business has
an important role to play in
education and community
development. By partnering
with companies that share our
values, we can leverage their
expertise and financial
investment of resources to
help young people succeed.
We also recognize that
businesses benefit from a welleducated
and skilled
workforce. This type of
mutually beneficial
partnership allows us to
strengthen communities while
improving outcomes for
businesses.
Finally, it's essential for JA to
have a presence within the
community we serve. This
means building strong
relationships with schools,
community organizations,
local government agencies,
and other stakeholders who
can help promote our
programs and create pathways
for success for young people.
By organizing our partnerships along these three key elements—People, Profit, and Presence—JA
Northern California can ensure that our efforts are focused on making a lasting impact on the lives
of students across the region. Our goal is to create a supportive ecosystem where all stakeholders
work together towards common goals; equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and
mindsets they need for success so they can thrive beyond their classrooms today!
12
Below is a limited selection of organizations that represent the diverse range of strategic
partnerships we are either establishing or growing our stewardship efforts. Each organization is
benchmarked and designated an active or potential strength in support of our programs in the
areas of People, Profit and Presence defined on the previous page. By using this simplified
approach, we can rapidly assess, focus, and engage those who truly champion our mission.
Call to Action: For JA NorCal to continue to grow and empower students, please share JA
opportunities with your corporate and professional networks. It is imperative that you introduce our
team to organizations that could potentially help us grow in our support through People, Profit and
Presence as each category leads to a greater Impact for our youth.
empowering students in Northern California.
