About the <strong>ORG</strong><br />
<strong>ORG</strong> Student Competition Award 2024 In Memory of Lorenzo Ferrari<br />
The Ontario Rubber Group (<strong>ORG</strong>) is a not-for-profit organization affiliate of the American Chemical Society<br />
(ACS) – Rubber Division. Our members include local suppliers, rubber compounders, and manufacturers<br />
within the rubber industry. With a commitment to networking, sustainability, continuing education and<br />
training in elastomer technology, our organization works to strengthen the Ontario rubber sector. This<br />
award is named in memory of the late Lorenzo Ferrari who was a strong Canadian leader in the rubber<br />
industry and an advocate for promoting education and continuous learning.<br />
Competition Requirements<br />
1) Applicant must be currently enrolled in a registered program at an Ontario college, university, or<br />
trade school in year 1 to the Graduate Level. The major should be of relevance to the rubber<br />
industry (i.e. chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or other related<br />
technical program). Any type of rubber or elastomer related experience will be considered. We<br />
encourage all to apply.<br />
2) Unofficial academic transcript copy<br />
3) CV including relevant work experience, publications, tradeshow participation, volunteering, etc.<br />
4) Applicants will write a one-page essay on an area of the rubber/elastomer industry that they feel<br />
could be more sustainable and why they are passionate about the topic. Format requirements:<br />
Page: One (minimum 400 words)<br />
Font type: Times New Roman<br />
Font size & Spacing: Single Spaced, Text: size 12, Title: size 14<br />
Paragraph alignment: Justify<br />
References if applicable: On second page, MLA style<br />
5) Fill out the attached standard application form (on the following page – page 2)<br />
6) The deadline to apply is July 1, 2024.<br />
Preference may be given to students who have completed a work term, co-op or summer work in the<br />
rubber industry, but we encourage all to apply. The winner will be based on the entire application<br />
submitted and a committee decision by the Board of Directors of the <strong>ORG</strong><br />
Value of the Award: 1 x $4000 CDN<br />
Potential tasks for bonuses. Upon being chosen as the recipient of the award, the student will receive the<br />
full award value of $4,000 CDN. To accumulate potential bonuses, the recipient may take the option(s) to:<br />
i) Participate in at 3+ <strong>ORG</strong> board meetings to broaden their network and contribute to the <strong>ORG</strong><br />
ii) Promote the <strong>ORG</strong> and rubber technology on campus through events and presentations<br />
iii) Engage with affiliate groups of the <strong>ORG</strong> for special projects to be agreed upon by all parties
