To Lose a Brother
Ian Jones
At your grave,
At most four times in a decade,
Don’t think I don’t think about you,
I do,
There are still tears and it tears at my heart,
You were my brother, my best friend,
And I was much younger,
And I know that the decaying body at your grave,
Has nothing to do with you now,
And I know you can’t hear me,
And I know I’ll never see you again,
To know these things,
To hurt,
And I don’t want to forget you,
But I do sometimes,
I’m sorry I do,
And I want to be there for everyone here,
Before they are dust with you,
Gone,
To share the same fate, and lose everything you hold dear,
But it’s already gone,
We don’t have enough time,
Disintegrating,
You won’t, we won’t, I don’t
And it’s already gone,
And how can you be there for someone?
What can you do?
To throw your heart and mind so fully,
Just to be there, to help them through,
The insignificant meaninglessness,
This feudal perusal of pursuers,
A love fit to grow,
To help, help, help them to go,
No one, not one, is around long enough to enjoy it.
