Spring/Summer 2023
The Learning and
Research Hub
In the last nine months The Education Department at Oakhaven Hospice
has experienced major changes in its management and development.
In August 2022, Sadie Cox was appointed
at Oakhaven as the Lead for Education and
Research, a registered nurse with extensive
experience in adult learning both within the
NHS and Higher Education.
Sadie and her team launched changes to
the department by aligning the adult learning
activities with research, and renamed the
department ‘The Learning and Research Hub’.
in October 2022. This event was marked by an
open afternoon sharing examples of learning
and research activities across the organisation
and was attended by staff from Pennington
Chase, IPU, Day Hospital and the Coates Centre.
During 2022 over 700 people involved in
the care of individuals requiring palliative and
end of life care attended learning events at
Oakhaven Hospice. Many of these individuals
are Registered Nurses and Allied Health
Care Professionals who work in many of the
residential and nursing home settings across
the New Forest community. Learning events at
Oakhaven include specialist knowledge about
Pain Management, Palliative and End of Life
Care including specialist skills using syringe
drivers and other clinical equipment to support
patient care at the end of life.
These learning events are delivered through
The learning and research team. Left to right: Judy, Andrea, Tracey, Sadie and Alison.
