Don't Postpone
Making a Will
Don't let superstitions or emotions
keep you from making a will,
advises Mrs. Doris Anderson, extension
home management specialist
at Rutgers University.
Afer all, the making of a will is
neither a sad nor a disagreeable
task. Consider it this way. A will
merely crystallizes that goal in life
toward which you are aiming. And
when you make a will you are not
preparing for death, but rather
planning for life.
The fact that you aren't rlc
doesn't give you an alibi for no
making a will. Experience ha,
proved that in most cases everyon
21 years of age or over should mak
a will. True, you may think tha
what you own is trifling,, but even
hundred dollars is worth willing t
someone of your choice.
It is desirable for both husbairc
and wife to have wills. The hus
band may be the only wage earne
and may handle all the financia
matters; in this case, his will
extremely important. However, th
wife can plan for the future, to
She may have cash or other po
sessions or property in her ow
name. She has the privilege of wil
ing her possessions the same as he
husband.
Single men and women need will
too. They may have dependent
Dther relatives or friends whon
they want to receive personal b
longings or real estate. There ca
be as many complications settlin
the affairs of a single person with
out a will as for a married perso
without a will.
Here's what happens if you don
Save a will. In this state if a perso
dies without a will, the county su
rogate appoints an administrab
who divides the "estate" amon
heirs and next of kin according
the New Jersey inheritance law re
gardless of their needs or mor
right. With a will, specific propert
is given to certain individuals ac
cording to their needs and th
wishes of the owner. An executo
named by the maker of the wi
carries out arrangements stated
the will. A will saves time and
less costly than settling the estat
without a will. Complications ca
be unpleasant, too, if no will exists
