Vous avez eu le soutien des organisations des
sociétés civiles malgaches et autres entités
internationales lors de l’affaire sur les crimes
environnementaux y compris le braconnage de juin
2022, quid de cette affaire?
Notre force est la reconnaissance et le soutien de la
société civile Transparency international, d’Amnesty
international, Alliance Voahary Gasy, INDRI, les
publications dans les journaux locaux, les médias
internationaux comme RFI, qui nous suit aussi depuis
le début, et le graal: Gaëlle Borgia. Venue enquêter au
cœur du conflit, son reportage sur Arte: "Madagascar:
terre de feu” a permis une mise en lumière mondiale.
Actuellement le combat n'est pas fini. En toute
impunité les braconniers continuent de piller la forêt.
Pire, deux de nos agents de patrouille et quatre de nos
villageois sont emprisonnés depuis juillet 2022, pour
simplement avoir dénoncé la corruption. Il est urgent
que des mesures soient prises au niveau national, afin
de fournir une protection adéquate aux défenseurs de
l'environnement et aux lanceurs d'alertes en général.
You received the support of Madagascan civil society
organisations and other international bodies during
the case concerning environmental crimes including
poaching in June 2022. What is the situation now?
Our strength lies in the recognition and support of the
civil structure Transparency international, of Amnesty
international, of Alliance Voahary Gasy and INDRI,
publications in the local press, international media
such as RFI, which has been following the affair from
the start and the absolute savior has been Gaëlle Borgia,
who came to shoot a documentary at the heart of the
conflict. Her programme on the channel Arte entitled:
Madagascar: terre de feu (Madagascar: land of fire)
highlighted the case around the world.
At the moment, our fight is not over. The poachers are
continuing to get away with plundering the forest. Worse
still, two of our gamekeepers and four of the villagers
have been imprisoned since July 2022, simply because
they spoke out against the corruption. Urgent measures
must be taken on the national level to provide adequate
protection for those defending the environment and
whistleblowers in general.
Quelles sont les espèces les plus menacées par les
braconniers dans la forêt de Vohibola?
Vohibola est un écosystème où il existe encore une
faune et une flore non répertoriées qui risquent
l'extinction. La grande majorité des pollinisateurs
sont sauvages, les abeilles dépendent d’écosystèmes
intacts, diversifiés et sains. De par le monde on
vient la visiter pour ses arbres endémiques comme
l'Humbertiodendron saboureaui, le Sakoanala
madagascariensis...
C'est un sanctuaire où vivent aussi une faune
endémique dont deux variétés de lémuriens diurnes:
le Sifaka et le Fulvus, et quatre variété de lémuriens
nocturnes: le Aye-aye, le Microcèbe, le Chirogale et
l'Avahi.
On y trouve la plus petite grenouille du monde:
Stumpffia pygmaea, qui cohabite avec la Brookesia
minima (le plus petit caméléon) mais aussi le Fosa, les
crocodiles et bien d'autres espèces menacés.
Which species are the most seriously threatened by the
actions of poachers in the forest of Vohibola?
Vohibola is an ecosystem that shelters fauna and flora
that have not yet been listed and which are in danger of
becoming extinct. The vast majority of the pollinisers
are wild and the bees need unspoiled, diversified and
healthy ecosystems. From all around the world people
come to visit the forest for its endemic trees such as
the Humbertiodendron saboureaui or the Sakoanala
madagascariensis...
It is also a sanctuary for endemic fauna, including two
species of diurnal lemurs: the Sifaka and the Fulvus, as
well as four species of nocturnal lemurs: the Aye-Aye, the
Mouse lemur, the Chirogale and the Avahi.
The forest also shelters the world’s smallest frog:
Stumpffia pygmaea, which cohabits with the Brookesia
minima (the smallest chameleon), but also the fosa,
crocodiles and numerous other species threatened with
extinction.
