A MESSAGE
FROM OUR CEO
In Our Own Voices (IOOV) is exceedingly excited to host 2023 Say It Loud! BIPOC Pride, a celebration of
LGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. At a time when attacks against
LGBTQIA+ communities across the nation have intensified, it is more important than ever for us to come
together in unity to celebrate community, strength, and talent.
As one of the oldest LGBTQIA+ organizations to serve BIPOC in the nation, we know that Communities
of Color face difficulty when communicating our perspectives within the larger community. Through Say
it Loud! BIPOC Pride, IOOV provides an opportunity to not only acknowledge the diversity of over 5,700
LGBTQIA+ BIPOC community members in the Capital Region of New York, but to also ensure that their
voices and experiences are at the table and amplified.
IOOV remains committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our family here in the Capital Region
and beyond. Now in our 25th year of service, we look forward to increasing our capacity to combat
marginalization, developing strong leadership, and creating positive, long-lasting change for our
communities. So if this is your first BIPOC Pride, “Welcome.” If not, thank you for joining us for another
year to say, “We are here and we are PROUD to be who we are!”
PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT
GRAMMY
NOMINATED
SINGER
Angie Stone
Grammy nominated singer Angie Stone is one of those artists with a Midas touch. Her buttery smooth honey-toned pipes, undeniable gritty soulfulness and
epic songwriting talents have been called upon by everyone from Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz, to name a few. Rolling
Stone Magazine once declared, “When soul music was in the lost and found, she came along to claim it.” It is this belief that has made Stone the go-to woman
for three different record labels when they were creating a new sound and vision. In the 70s, it was Angie Stone who helped to define the sound of the now
legendary Sugar Hill Records as a member of the first recorded female rap group, Sequence. Their hit, “Funk You Up,” is a classic that gets folks moving to this
day! Fast forward, Clive Davis tapped Stone’s iconic sound in the early 2000s, when he launched J Records. She recorded her gold-selling Mahogany Soul for
the label and Stone Love. The in- demand Renaissance woman moves seamlessly from the studio and stage (she’s starred on Broadway) to television and
silver screen without missing a beat. A legend in this tough business, Angie Stone stands in a class by herself. In September 2013 BET/CENTRIC made Stone
the focus of their acclaimed “Being” artist profile series, capturing just how amazing this dynamic’s life and career has been.
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone began singing gospel music as a child. Her father, a member of a local gospel quartet, would take her
to hear many of the great gospel artists. Stone first caught the music world’s attention as a member of Sequence, an all-female trio along with fellow
cheerleaders Cheryl Cook and Gwendolyn Chisholm. They were the second rap group, after The Sugarhill Gang, signed by Sylvia and Joe Robinson’s Sugarhill
Records in 1979. The group made history with the now-classic “Funk You Up,” “Funky Sound (Tear the Roof Off),” and “I Don’t Need Your Love.” Soon after, Stone
began working with futuristic rap group Mantronix and Lenny Kravitz. She was a part of Kravitz’s Let Love Rule Tour and appears on his album 5. In the early
90’s, Stone was a member of the R&B trio Vertical Hold. She went on to co-write and co-produce D’Angelo’s critically lauded and Gold-selling debut, Brown
Sugar, in 1995, as well as 2000’s Voodoo. The two also have a son together. 1999 saw the release of Angie Stone’s Arista debut, Black Diamond, which garnered
two Grammy nods and two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. The album featured the hit single “No More Rain (In This Cloud).”
The Gold selling Mahogany Soul followed in 2001 on the newly founded J Records and Stone Love followed in 2004. The Art of Love & War followed next
featuring the Grammy nominated single “Baby” with Betty Wright in 2007 and Stone’s album Unexpected was released in 2010. Her album Rich Girl was
issued on Saguaro Road via Time Life. The Renaissance woman appeared on three reality TV shows - VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club (2006), TV One’s R&B Divas (2013
and 2014), and ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap (2014). She’s appeared in such motion pictures as The Fighting Temptations, Pastor Brown and Ride Along as well
as the Broadway production of Chicago.

PERFORMER S
NINA SKY
In 2004, recording artists Nicole and Natalie Albino better known as Nina Sky blazed the music
scene with their unique sound; a fusion of hip hop, r&b, pop and reggae. The identical twin’s
infectious debut song, “Move Ya Body” and follow-up tracks “Turning Me On,” and “Oye Mi
Canto,” not only became club anthems, but propelled the group to Billboard chart success and
collaborations with Grammy Award-winning artists and producers including Bruno Mars, Diplo,
Major Lazer, Rick Ross, Betty Wright, Aventura, Sean Paul, and Salaam Remi.
Following the success of their major label debut, Nina Sky, the New York City-based Puerto
Rican duo have been traveling the world touring and garnering global recognition while
perfecting their artistry. Their independently released projects The Other Side (2010), and
Nicole and Natalie (2012) received coverage from numerous outlets including SPIN, The Fader,
Pitchfork, Vice, MTV, and VIBE.
“We’ve been performing around the world endlessly since we were teenagers,” says Natalie. “It
has not only opened our eyes culturally but has inspired our music over the years. Nicole and I
have grown tremendously since our first album and are excited to share our new tunes.“
Now as married women, Natalie is a new mom and has taken on the role as the lead singer
and songwriter for the group. For the last decade Nicole has honed her skills as a producer and
notable DJ—curating music and spinning for some of the world’s most iconic brands including
Nike, Opening Ceremony, Christie’s, The Glaad Media Awards, and Cavalli. Their progression
artistically is evident not only sonically but is displayed as their ever-changing sense of style
has developed them into fashion icons both on the New York City scene and in pages of
fashion magazines.
featuring a DJ Set by
“It’s an amazing feeling for us to still live out our dreams while staying true to who we are as
artists,” says Nicole. “We’re truly blessed to not only do what we love, but to have a supportive
fan base that have shown us love throughout the years no matter what.”
Nina Sky continues to prove that the sky is most definitely the limit. The group was recently
enlisted by London-based producer TroyBoi for his 2015 smash hit, “Afterhours,” which also
features Diplo and has 11.8 million plays on SoundCloud and over 7 million views on YouTube.
With experience, self-awareness, and an array of musical projects under their belt, the twins
reconnected with their fans on a massive level with their 2016 single, “Champion Lover” via
Tommy Boy Records. The group continues to record new music, host a radio show on Apple
Music Beats 1, and tour worldwide both performing live and DJing.
Jewel The Gem | 2023 BI POC PRIDE MC
Born and raised in Brooklyn, East New York, with Haitian blood through her veins, Jewel The
Gem is a Black Queer Femme artist, entertainer, speaker and activist. Her overarching ambition
to amplify the voice of the unheard and inspire many to leave their comfort zone and take risks
to achieve their goals in life is one of the many reasons she fell in love with creating music.
The ebb and flow of modern day contemporary Hip Hop music is often disrupted by enigmas
who dare to challenge the status quo of the industry. Her debut album “Ratchet Revolution”
undeniably proves Jewel The Gem to be a fearless rapper, vocalist, and trendsetter who cuts
across eras with her immaculate wordplay that inspires and moves audiences. Jewel The Gem’s
unapologetic representation and charismatic personality combined with her indisputable skill
to captivate a crowd, has allowed her to build an extensive resume of over 15 years; hosting
parties, festivals, networking events and open mics to summits & showcases. She has been
featured from BET to Fox Soul for her dynamic work as a radical voice of the people. She has
recently been named as GO Magazine, Class of 2023 “Women We Love” and has her own radio
show on Hits92.3 in Atlanta that exclusively centers the Black Queer and Trans Community.
With her humor, wit and vibrant demeanor Jewel The Gem is now and will always be the
hostess with the mostest.

CDL IS PROUD! SAVE THE DATE!
Capital District Latinos (CDL) in Albany joins the efforts of multiple public
and private institutions in celebration of June Pride Month!
ERNESTO LINNEMANN PHOTO EXHIBITION
Colombian interdisciplinary artist Ernesto Linneman documents their journey as an indigenous Latine artist
who duels with a world of white beauty. They question, dissect, and analyze the limited interpretations of
Eurocentric beauty standards and their repercussions for indigenous bodies in our society. On their first solo
exhibition, Linneman magnifies the presence of transgender folks in our everyday lives, inserting their selfcreated
characters into mundane activities, commonalities of any integrated member of society.
JUNE 17, 2:00 - 5:30PM
CDL DRAG-U MAKEUP WORKSHOP
Want to be a Queen? Experience the road to transformation
at the 1st Annual CDL Drag-U Community Makeup Workshop.
JUNE 17, 6:00 - 8:00PM
DRAG DEMONSTRATIVE TALK:
AN INTERGENERATIONAL LATINE QUEER & QUEER ALLY GATHERING
A power duo of Drag Queens, one queer elder and another queer youth, will guide the audience into the
personal and artistic processes of becoming a work of art, aka a Drag Queen. All while introducing the
audience to topics of gender, justice, challenges of LGTBQ+ immigrants, inclusive vocabulary, and sparkles
of loving kindness. The demonstrative talk will be followed by Q&A and a drag show for the community.
